Sam Hyde

Your profile picture and user name suggests otherwise.

I enjoy Sam's content and have chipped in the $5 a few times here or there for that reason, but this was handled in an embarrassing way. Find the multi gig magnet links of his content. They're out there
So he should have just let some dude keep making money off his content? When he offered $50K+ and the guy told him to fuck off, he should have just kept taking it in the ass? It's not like he's some multi-millionaire gouging for a few more pennies, he has been fucked off every major platform and the YouTube income probably makes an actual difference to him.

He should dick that guy mercilessly for being a complete fucking idiot and keep all the money for himself.

The easiest way to burn goodwill as an e-celeb is by DMCA'ing people whom freely spread your stuff around to others who might have never seen it without it being mirrored/clipped/etc.
That’s the thing though. They’re not “freely sharing it” out of the kindness of their hearts.

They’re making a decent buck off the ads.

They’re literally earning money on something that is 95% his work, and the only thing he gets out of it, is some generic “goodwill”.

You can’t pay your rent with goodwill nor with how many people you made laugh.

Yeah, I don’t see the controversy here.

He’s not Paramount or MGM or Jewflix. He’s one small content creator.

People are earning thousand of dollars off the back of his work, without Sam getting anything out of it, than the knowledge that he made a shitlord somewhere chuckle.

If you want to get angry at someone, get angry at YouTube for destroying their own ecosystem, and only leaving big creators, corporate bullshit, and parasites who earn a living through YouTube pushing monetized videos first.

Sam seemed to have this cooking for years as you can find a couple clips and stuff of him addressing the clip channels. He was hoping that they would bring in enough subscribers to the gumroad to make up for the views/subscribers being lost due to having free access to portions of his content on youtube.

This is kind of a nothing burger, cause it's not like he's particularly money grubbing compared to a lot of the usual grifting and scammery we see posted here. The paywall to get his content is 5 dollars and he's even said he sees no problem with people paying the 5 and then just downloading all of the videos he has to watch freely and cancel their subscription until they want a new batch of videos.

Maybe he's lying but Sam's mentioned multiple times that when they ran the numbers there really isn't enough gained from the clip channels to warrant letting them continue to host Sam's content.

Only smart thing he did was hire Lil Shitpost to continue his editing. To be frank, his Gumroad content is not worth the money.
You have 8 videos on your Gumroad, 3 of them are reviews. Sam Hyde has over 100 videos available for the same money. Some of the videos are over 2 hours long, others are heavily edited like KSTV2 and are really funny. He has more than enough content to justify the money.

Yeah and his videos suck and mine are funny. I'm sorry, but three fucking losers hanging out on the sofa talking about nothing while some stupid wigger chimes in and says literally fuck all over and over again is not content. I never really liked his edited stuff.

There's other reasons why people choose to financially support my podcast but you know that and you're just being a salty fanboy.

Also, everything I do is very quickly turned out to public content and basically all of it starts out free for everyone to begin with, so not much of it is paywalled to even be compared. If you honestly compared the quantity of output I probably have more shit out there. And that's with my podcast being a sidegig to try and make ANYTHING about this forum profitable in ANY way, while their output is literally all that 10 people do.

Eat shit retard.

I support your podcast too on Gumroad, but to say it’s not worth it because you don’t like the podcast is dumb. The episodes with the wiggers suck, but the ones with Rochefort are better imo

No one can be sure unless Sam publishes his numbers. Which he'll never do probably. We know his team got a lot bigger when he was raking in money during COVID/Cyrpto boom. And Sam is a bit too prideful to not pay his guys. So I'm gonna estimate that he needs to keep growing, and if that video game thing isn't bullshit, he's finally started to consolidate his company. As far as nickle and diming, Sam isn't anywhere near as bad as a lot of people. And the big thing that puts me on Sam's side is that he already is publishing free content, I would've recommended Sam go the Wingsofredemption route and just extort the clip channels for at least 50%, but he chose to do it this way instead.

An actual deal that cannot be refused. That's $54k on the low end with room for growth based on performance in exchange for work that can be done anywhere with an internet connection and no upfront cost. Not to mention that I doubt running a clips channel requires 40 hours/week, so he could have had other stuff on the side. What a retard!
It's the 20% offer that made him say no, I guarantee it. That probably feels like a low ball offer if you consider yourself the person who made the thing successful in the first place, but 20% would be a fantastic offer if you're like a marketing agency.

Pretty crazy that anyone can make $30k off just reuploading stuff; I'm shocked Sam is still so popular. Internet daddy syndrome, like with Peterson or Metokur?
Anyway enough dick sucking, watch more MDE.
The most promising part of MDE on something like Adult Swim was the possibility of using AS' name to fuck with higher profile retards, like some sort of anti-Sasha Baron Cohen. You can already see them doing some of that in the first season (although I'd argue going after your own executives is a career-limiting move).

The other thing about MDE is that Sam really shines when he has Nick around. Charls I could take or leave, but Nick grounds Sam in his past and keeps Sam's ego in check. He's probably the only guy around Sam who isn't a total sycophant, he brings a more traditional style of comedy to the show than Sam's constantly surrealist, nihilistic stuff (which can be quite tiring over long periods), and he's arguably just as funny or funnier than Sam.

the ones with Rochefort are better imo
yeah and they should probably just set up a regular fucking podcast together and do merch instead of trying to paywall it and whining when clip channels do what they should have done to begin with. I'm sorry but his strategy sucks. They censor themselves on Gumroad too so it's not like an artistic integrity decision.

Well there is no one ultimate judge of what any person’s work is worth it is all subjective. I don’t really get Hyde’s content so it may be a hundred videos but it’s nothing I’d want to watch. Meanwhile I would and plan to support others including Nupl who may not have the same volume of content but need money for endeavors they do because they’ve been canceled for wrongthink and I enjoy what they do have.

eta I stand by Nupl’s new name.

That's an option, not a solution. I call that the Brendan Schaub path. Release everything for free, on multiple platforms and infest it with Ads, sponsored content, and merch. Sam's doing the premium route. Probably based more on his belief that his guys are more loyal, as opposed to someone like Schaub; who's viewers will leave him if they can't get it for free.

So he went the more based and wholesome big chungus principled route and then saw that other people were going to do what he could have / should have done and got jealous they were making money off of it and is now trying to claim ownership of their work for a quick buck. Ok.

You don't HAVE to run ads, you don't HAVE to do sponsorships. And P.S.: These fucking clip channels he's buying are for RUNNING ADS ON. That's how they make their money. So he's doing merchandise already, going to run ads like the clippers are doing, and is still going to paywall his fucking podcast which makes no sense.

Where does the 30k a month figure come from? There's no way they would know if the clippers actually claim any adverts I would think.
I've heard similar amounts from Asmongold re: the clip channels that reupload his twitch highlights. It's a believable figure imo.

This is also a pretty bad sign if these guys are resorting to walled garden content tactics. That's not something that ever goes 'well' as far as new growth is concerned, to say nothing of how people feel about clipping channels vs longform content to begin with.
Asmongold had an opposite opinion of his clip channels and let them run for the longest time because he considered it free advertising and goodwill; he was making so much on twitch that it was chump change to try and claim the clip channels. He did eventually make his own however due to some fuckery with how Youtube and DMCA claims work. Something along the lines of "I'm going to make my own official channel for clips now because Youtube is picking up, and even though it's ME in the video, other people can use the algorithm to claim MY videos if I don't assert ownership over my own content." Basically its possible for the anonymous nobodies to upload your shit, you then start uploading personally, and they can claim your revenue right out from under your nose and strike you.

Obviously it cuts the growth of any podcast at its heels. No point in getting big names on your podcast to drive up interest if you're paywalling them. But if driving up gumroad subs (if that is his main source income) seem to be the priority. There is always an option to do a largely free podcast, and have like an exclusive 10-20 minute one just for his subs. I think with this and the NFT thing, it's only gonna get worse

Well, now I know why your avatar has a loaded gun pointed at his own head.

That's one data point though. I wonder how many of these clip channels weren't getting anything in ads and were just fans, who are now accused of benefiting from YouTube's own policy of slapping ads on everything with, without, or even against the creator's consent.
