The problem with "believing" in conspiracy theories is that a smart person doesnt believe in them simply just because, he does it because they have been exposed to proper evidence towards such.
I dont believe in things like the moon landing being fake (tho I dont think anyone that believes in it is an idiot). But I do believe in most "theories" that involve around the benefit of the elites.

For example, is global warming fake? I wouldnt say it is fake, but I feel like its something that happens mostly naturally and any aspect of humanity influence in it is neglectable or can be lessened by creating a better industry instead of taking it all down. But I know that a whole industry and culture of its own was built on this and anyone that speaks against it, even if reasonably, is insulted and cancelled into submission. It plays on existential fears and guilt that we are hurting innocent creatures and trees (inserting personality where there aint, nature aint sentient, not like humans are anyway). And the elites will gladly play around with that fear for their own benefit.

I could go on and on about this one but we would be here all day.

Another "theory" is that the cure for cancer exists but its being reserved strictly for the elites, hence why most of them tend to live to their 100's while the plebs only live to their 80's at most.

The elites see themselves as kings if not Gods so of course they will do all they can to extend their already unnaturally stretched lifespans.

My belief on conspiracy theories is all about "Would it benefit the elties to do it? And if so, why?".

There is semantic issue with the word believe as atheists don't believe into anything and monotheists only believe in their god. In this context it means what resonates with you the most or what you agree with.

Really most conspiracies can be boiled down to "some people are real bastards who will do anything to make more money", follow the money and there's your conspiracy.

My biggest issues with climate change, which I do acknowledge is a real problem, is that those who sperg about it the most keep making dramatic, Harold Camping-esque predictions that never come true.

They also get pissy and denounce you as a heretic when you propose actions that they don't like. For example:

• Hold China and India to the same environmental standards as the West
• Plant more trees to capture carbon
• Nuclear power
• Pointing out the contribution of urban heat islands to global warming
• Point out that the Green New Deal is counterproductive, as it requires fossil fuels to procure non-recyclable and often toxic materials to implement sources such as solar and wind
• Asking why the likes of John Kerry, Al Gore, and Barack Obama are allowed to lecture us on climate while living in beachfront mansions, flying around in private jets, and holding shares in oil companies.

They reject these out-of-hand because they don't fit their preconceived social engineering agenda. Which just proves that it's not about the earth.
