I mean, remember how *CERTAIN* the democrats were that they were going to get a blue wave in 2018? I’m sure y’all remember the people putting blue wave emojis and hashtags in their Twatter accounts? Talking about it incessantly? Tbh, I saw a blue wave as extremely likely to occur, given all the pearl-clutching over Trump.

But…that didn’t happen. Sure, the republicans lost the house, but they gained in the senate. I remember flipping through the news channels and seeing the anchors’ faces visibly downcast that they weren’t getting the victory they had told themselves was totally going to happen (much like in 2016). Perhaps we’re the ones who are being a little too optimistic? Makes one wonder what McConnell’s strategy is here.

I would like to second this - I have a deep blue mexican friend who physically cannot switch sides (Half her family in-country is illegal) and she'd short circuit if this was straight up as presented. And I would really like to make that happen for the lulz.

Thanks for providing. Vid rip below. The context does soften the impact somewhat since a lot of his followers at this point, the people actually following him, lost their sense of nuance and perception a while back. But tbh it's not much better. He misquoted Trump directly and went right to "take down those rapist Mexicans" which implies he thinks that and is using Trump as a mask for his own beliefs.
Again, to his true blue followers with the context it probably doesn't matter much. But it's still not a good look considering some of the other shit he's said, such as my favorite, "poor kids can be just as smart as white kids".
Also the second half of the full vid is fuckin gold.

As if that's actually different from what's going on today. And this isn't some Putler is the fascist antichrist screed, Russia is still run by insanely wealthy and powerful oligarchs and corrupt bureaucrats with little respect for basic civil rights with a de facto Czar overseeing all of it. The fundamental truth about the Russian nature is that that is their ideal system. they tried democracy in 1917 and the 90s, and that ended pretty terribly. Minus the gripes with the insane levels of corruption and social decay, most Russians are perfectly happy living under the boot of a loving autocrat.
