The IDs (atleast in Holo) were always EN lite, until kobo proved that you can pander to the actual indogs and get really popular, the same with a ES, KR or PH branch, most of em would speak their native language alongside english.

Most vtubers stand above their audience; I love Akuma Nihmune because she puts herself on the same level or even below them. A lot of people talk about how their oshi gives their all, but Numi really does put absolutely everything she's got into her streams: embarrassing stories, eating hot foods, calling up friends and making embarrassing confessions, having her dad on stream, posting her body, even famously sending her biggest fan her gym socks in her early days.
She does less gaming than most, a lot of chatting, which involves the audience a lot and again makes it feel like more of an equal conversation (especially with her audience still being fairly small, although it's grown a lot since I started). But she somehow keeps finding new things to talk about so every stream feels different. And she's actually a legitimately good musician too, even though that doesn't show up on stream so much.
And yeah the coomer talk is also part of the appeal, but for me it's all part of being relatable: she's just as horny (and submissive) as I am, but just as awful at putting it into practice, even looking as good as she does. She manages to be simultaneously an attractive woman and one of the bros.
So yeah. Talented but relatable, down to earth and unpretentious, willing to suffer and put everything on the line for her fans. I know this thread hates coomertubers but that's my one and only oshi.

This does bring the question if she has to be ID, is there anything saying someone from ID couldnt be HoloEN? Like we know country of resident doesn't affect if you can be EN or not (both IRyS and Calli leave in Japan but they weren't forced to join HoloJp) knowing english seems to be the only requirement (which means theorically someone who knows English, Indonesian and Japanese could just triple dip and apply to all branches ?)

If you can speak EN you can be EN. I assume that most ID vtubers would just audition for the ID branch because they would perceive their chance of getting in that way to be higher than getting into EN.

we often speculate that when branches like NijiID and HoloID were made, there will be another line for each country represented. but apparently not.

you can see at around 52:49 ish someone asked Risu if Holo Malay going to happen, but she answer from her perspective (not an official statement from Cover) that in short Holo MY not going to happen, if it's so it would likely be HoloSEA since merchandising a bit troublesome if something like Holo Malay happened.

I don't speak Japanese so I'm reliant on clips and I dislike her music but it's Suisei. I like her the most simply because she actually motivates me to work harder seeing that she went from idol reject, to indie vtuber to corpo to one of the biggest names in hololive. She has a really strong work ethic, is ambitious and she's resilient since she got rejected from HL multiple times, kept applying and got in on her own terms where she keeps her own design.

I also really like her due to her character/morals since she talks bluntly about how she won't date her fans and doesn't do any of the GFE shit. She could and she would get more money for it, but she doesn't and she even tones down the fanservice in her models just so people focus on the thing she cares about most, her music. I really respect and admire that even if I don't care for jpop. (It also helps I find GFE and coomer stuff cringe)

All in all it's a weird relationship where it's less about entertainment and more about motivation I get from seeing her development (although it is slightly uncomfortable as she is younger than me and that does bother me at times but I can generally spin it as me needing to apply myself). As a huge bonus she also has a beautiful voice, her models are the best designed* and she makes me laugh by terrorizing other vtubers by leaning into the psychopath memes.

*Except her white hoodie and new years outfits neither of which I care for.

The short-form preface: I have a bunch of the HoloJP I follow off and on when they're playing something that interests me or that I don't need a lot of linguistic context to understand. HoloID also has some hits, but most of my attention is on HoloEN and NijiEN because time zones and 0 brain effort to follow compared to my pidgin Japanese understanding and ID squawking language. Descending order of top 5 are Calli, Fauna, Irys, Pomu and Lui.

Gen 0: Miko - The gamer word that started it all, I don't follow her as actively anymore because I just don't have time to follow everyone I like live, but I consume clips and have been watching Rust a bit lately.
Gen 1: Haachama - Ah yes, a fellow cooking enthusiast. Her IDGAF approach to some of the things she's done is pretty great, ignoring face yabs, reviewing lewds on stream, if only all idols could be so powerful.
Gen 2: Subaru - I like the squawky duck voice, I like the effort she puts in to communicate in English, her game choice bakes my buns and the 'sporty tomboy dressing girly' trope is 4000% NEURON ACTIVATED. Lots of clip content but I do try to follow live if I'm up at the time, which I'm generally not.
GAMERS: Korone - If I have to explain Korone's appeal please rope yourself. This woman is pure happiness condensed into a png and I've adapted well to life without fingers.
Gen 3: Marine - I, uh... can't elaborate much because thirstposting, but her short content over the last while has been nice little tidbits to enjoy and even if I'm not trying to follow the convo her voice is nice to listen to. Mostly VOD consumption but I use her to practice listening to Japanese.
Gen 4: Watame - Another comfy voice to space out to and a finely cultured woman as well, her animated skits recently have been fun to watch for some bitesize content.
Gen 5: Botan - Hag love, an addictive laugh and an actual certified gamer. Her wrecking shit in FPS games with/against other talents (Subaru) is some of my favourite shit to watch in the realm of professional bullying.
Gen 6: Lui - Hag love, I love her design, her voice is very nice to listen to and her English proficiency is high tier. Her 7 Days to Die lately with Botan has been autism relief.

Spoiler: Holo ID

Gen 1: Moona - Not as strong as some other gen picks but her design gets my attention, her 3d performance at the holofes past was a god damn show, and good for filling air with her building game autism.
Gen 2: Reine - I am legally obligated to support Reine by order of [redacted] or else my life is forfeit. I have not been coerced into this act of support and freely give my money of my own volition. Also she is pretty funny and the first one I found playing Monster Rancher, so that was an instant hard lock.
Gen 3: Kaela - A woman with power to aspire to for her long ass streams, but miss me with that League of Legends. More buildgame autism as well, which is fine by me.

Spoiler: Holo EN

Myth: Calli - It is shameful to admit but everything she is now is how I was 10 years ago. I have such a kinship feeling from her that I risk going full retard gachi over her, so I have to keep myself in check. I can't fault her dumb fuck white girl tendencies because I've also walked the path of the dumb fuck white boy.
Council: Sana initially, replaced by Fauna - I'm sorry giant space baby... please be well for all us lost Sanalites. I always hoped you'd come back and get your upswing as a fantastic redemption story. Fauna was already in running to be top because of her power level, comfy voice and gamer credentials but now I have no choice. At least as a Sapling now, my tears of abandonment can keep me watered.
HOPE: IRyS - Clueless Hope Woman has just such an entertaining energy, admittedly I miss most of my attempts to catch her streams since she tends to run at times perfect for me to fall asleep to. Also recently caught swearing unfiltered in 4k LETS GOOOOOO.

Admittedly, I don't actively follow much of them, even though incidentally they were who I saw first when first checking out this whole vtuber thing. Some of the earliest streams I remember clicking into in order to see what was up with these anime streamers was Temma's english learning, and I recall seeing some Oga and Rikka as well. I was actually hyped for Spiral Tones because I was hoping it'd signal more attention/action for getting the Stars into collabs with Live but nah.

Vesper - Hands down, this man is the breakout hit of probably all vtubing for me, not only being an entertaining speaker, but his tastes are 10/10, his boomer tendencies speak to me as a similarly geriatric fuck and gives me hope that I too could find success as a vtuber with my turn of the millenium game tastes.

Pomu - Chaotic retard fairy is only natural because I am Pomu, and so are you, you just need to come to accept it. Took the head as my favourite during the madness meltdown arc she had over Minecraft with Elira and her entry into MGS was an entertaining ride as both an MGS fan and a milfag.

Spoiler: Niji: Obsydia

Selen - Sassy giggle dragon is just too much fun to ignore, a truly legendary gamer, and I still can't fucking believe she and Pomu got the okay to play fucking House Party. Her torture at the hands of Phasmo is something I wish was more recurring.

Nina - This is a bit of a hard call because it's a coinflip between her and Enna, but 90% of the time I tune into Enna playing something I'm interested in I'm just agitated by how retarded she is and that some of the easiest games to play utterly escape her. Conversely with Nina though, while I can appreciate her boomer tastes in games at times, her frequent pattern of repeating things she says three times and apparently deliberately mispronouncing words or using dumb shit 'momisms' is unspeakably rage inspiring for reasons I don't understand. I keep going back though so I guess I like the anger.

Spoiler: Niji mEN and Iluna

Fulgur is the only one out of Luxiem and Noctyx I've put any effort into watching and do generally enjoy, if even only his FFXIV streams. I've caught a few other streams otherwise, but aside from him the only Nijimales I can remember are part of the company are Vox and Luca. I thought I was going to like Alban and Sonny during their debuts but then I lost interest in them primarily after Sonny's early streams were boring and then I basically forget they're real. Ike, Shu, Yugo, Uki and Mysta might as well not even exist, I only remembered them because I'm checking a wiki to get the wave names.

Iluna I've barely looked into past my distaste for a literal zoomer with bottom of the barrel tier content in Kyo's PL, kind of painting my perception of their entire wave as not my taste if this is the tier of talent they scouted for this wave. Coupled with Aia's apparent woke bullshit, I'm kind of not interested. Scarle's hot I guess and Maria has an interesting design, but they're going to need to distinguish themselves before I take interest, and that'll be hard considering I have negative investment in basically half of NijiEN.

Spoiler: Indie honourable mention

Honey Goblin is a cute shortstack goblin with a history of dice nerdery, but I only ever catch her vod archive on youtube because she's strictly on Twitch and I'd rather kill myself, even though her chat isn't the typical cesspool twitch chat I can't be fucked to deal with the site. I don't know if she has a lot of streams or vods from there that she just doesn't put on youtube, but she does a lot of art streams and her voice is just... 12/10. She's collabed in the past with Randon, so that's kind of funny in retrospect.

Her single greatest strength is definitely her voice. In my opinion her 'previous' voice was kind of a mediocre, generic anime thing. But then she started using her singing (closer to natural) voice for all her content, it's really quite pleasant to listen to as well as more expressive.

Her interactions with others are fantastic, she's great at talking, so quiet moments are rare even if it's Aqua on the other side. And of course if it's a competitive game, she's a strong contender. I don't like a lot of the songs she picks, but a few are really good. English Karaoke when?

Plus, as a kiwi, I respect that her opsec is good.
