Watched an old season 15 episode and Mike mentioned his old website so I pulled it up on the waybackmachine. Don't think this has been mentioned in the thread. There are a quite a few snapshots but most things don't load

Replace Louis with Michael and Joe with Sven, and you’re left with a snapshot of Michael’s tortured mind:

Got to love Julienne inserting herself into the show with that disgusting voice of hers. It's a real shame Michael doesn't cut her off anymore, he was doing fans a favor. Dipshit isn't self-aware enough to be embarrassed:

Glad to see Mike added a whole 4th camera just to play with toys

Picture a four year old who has no playmates and no daily interactions with other children, only this four year old is actually forty and his life is in shambles. It's painfully obvious Michael's emotional development was stunted early on, and I'm afraid he's incapable of moving past that point.

Did Mike always cover shit so old? He constantly makes fun of people covering tired news and abusing punching bags way passed their prime but it's like he's using all that time off as an excuse to do the same himself.

Now and then I don't mind it but episode 8 had mostly this sort of thing. I can understand if it's fools watch shit or other redbar stuff (I would personally never go seek out Melton or Josh Denny updates without mike making fun of them) we'd need an update on but half of it is the same shit everyone else also did when it was still new last year.

I agree. Mike & Jules seem genuinely happy.

But I have a question: how are clippers able to get mike’s show in 1440p (which is what he requires)? I want to clip but I don’t know how. I am a paying member & still can’t download the episode.
i uploaded a video once just screen recording it and uploading that and mike commented 'please reupload in 1440p thanks!', then i got a copyright strike on that account lol. but if you don't have a 1440p or higher display, the only way i found how to clip in 1440p is to use OBS or something similar, and if you have an nvidia card, go to the nvidia control panel, and under 'manage 3d settings', click on DSR Factors and change it to 1440p, which is like 1.78x for me. Then, you can change the resolution in Windows' display settings and then choose 1440p as the resolution to screen capture in OBS.

he has a year of catch up to do, thats the main reason. pre-year off, every show only talked about what happened in the last week/month.

i'm amazing how old him and his buddies looked at 19, they look like a modern day 40 year old. the only other neat thing is seeing how often they did episodes, only once a week for 2 hr in 2005 is basically nothing, and thats when ron left. meaning they were doing even less during the super early years. i know mike got it up to 2/3 times a week by 2006 when the comedians joined but its crazy to see they only did it literally 2 hours max every week. that would barely cover an intro now.

Using Jew as an insult just makes anyone with half a brain disregard everything you say. Jules is annoying though and clearly detracts from the show in every way.

I’ve been listening though 2008-09 episodes lately, and I really enjoy Mike and Dean’s dynamic. Fritz is mostly self absorbed and interrupts too much though.
Does anyone have footage from Dean Carlson’s Total Scumbag dvd, such as the Cribs episode they filmed in his apartment?
Also, in 2015 Mike released a “boarding school story” on his store for a dollar or so, discussing in great detail (he said it was like 6 hours long) his experience at Elan. Is that archived anywhere?

Dean Carlson was dogshit, never contributed and openly held mike in contempt, like most co-hosts outside of Kyle Lane he was only there as a punching bag, he never contributed whatsoever besides being a punching bag. also if you can't find the boarding school story at this point YNGMI.

just oldbar in general is dogshit besides the handful of episodes mike labeled oldbar, and the kyle lane eps, their dynamic was amazing. Mike's carlson years was him at his shittiest, he was still spooked because of the court thing and was still in self imposed exile from society, he was a guy in his mid-20s that never drank or smoked and spent most of his time inside on his computer. AKA a fucking loser. Dean had a great dynamic with mike early on because he'd join in on mike's mocking of Chainz Fritz or monty but the chainz bits are too few and far between to make it worth it and Mike compiled the whole monty saga in one episode.

i personally enjoy david angelo but literally everything up until september of 2009 is a waste of time, kyle's first ep is july/august of 2009(?) but its only in September when he becomes mike's best friend/sex partner. literally 90% of episodes before then are a complete wash. mike really only gives it his all when Angelo or Nice Peter showed up and angelo leaves in 2007 and nice peter only did 3 episodes a year until he moved.

September of 2009 is basically a reboot of the show for all intents and purposes, after that mike's social life and stories help sustain the show for the next two years until the long break.

I’m glad the boarding school story isn’t lost to time, but idk where I’d even begin to look. Could you spare me a link?

It’s been fascinating listening to these old episodes for several reasons, so I’m going to keep at it. Already in April 2009, so I’m not far from the end of Dean’s time on the show. I’m not sure I know what you’re referring to when you say he was spooked by the court thing on a self imposed exile from society.

in early 2007 Mike got arrested and went to court because some indians where he used to live said he was running a neo-nazi podcast, it was the first time Mike ever got arrested/had to deal with cops showing up to his house. he was put in handcuffs and humiliated in front of the rest of the people in his apartment.

that ends up leading to quite a hatred of asians and indians, mainly because mike correctly deduced that they don't give a flying fuck for american ideals such as freedom of speech and are hypersensitive to mocking even worse than niggers.

but anyways that whole fiasco traumatizes him and he stops doing prank calls or parody songs pretty much from the start of the current archive until september of 2009. he even stops going out to bars or strip clubs. gets a job for awhile and pretty much lives like he's on house arrest until then. even his closet friends he doesn't hang out with outside of the 2 hours he does a show, that literally all changes with Kyle in that month.

while the old episodes are neat as a time capsule, they aren't good on their own. its like O&A's pre Sirius content, while its cute seeing them react to stuff and hear their political opinions and ideas from when they were younger, outside of that its not too big of a deal. I know i felt all happy inside hearing them talk about random comedians they know like TJ Miller not realizing he's going to become one of the biggest comedians a decade later. but outside of that whole future famous people thing its not that big of a deal.

i'm not trying to tell you to stop listening but this is so that any of the other redbar fans don't decide to go full relisten like you when its a waste of time. thats 1800 hours of my life i won't get back. literally the "classic" redbar we all know and love that hyper analyzes comedian/fools and says insanely bigoted hilarious things starts then. Fritz basically berates mike so hard when he talks about non-white straight men that he doesn't really go hard in the paint until he gets with Kyle then.

i'm being 100% honest its all crap with almost no funny lines until late 2009, i remember one of my coworkers thought i was listening to NPR or something serious like that because i rarely did more than a sensible chuckle once a week and mainly went "oh wow/didn't know that" for the rest of it.

Hm I don’t think that story has been discussed in any detail here before. Interesting to say the least.

I’ve found a lot of humor in the mid 08-09 run I’ve been on, and you might have your years messed up a little because there have been a lot of prank calls and funny bits, Dean’s punching bag role subsided by early 09, and there have been several stories chronicling their excessive drinking and debauchery.

Edit: I was searching for the boarding school story and still no luck. I found this tumblr post about it though: https://redbarradio.tumblr.com/post/67096062748/have-you-heard-mikes-boarding-school-story-yet/

honestly the dean years just wasn't my sense of humor, mike went full on absurdity because he was basically not allowed to be mean anymore. there's only so much booger talk you can take. i'm here for the mockery not the bodily fluids.

i think you had mentioned that mike made really good music and that it was a shame that it's impossible to find, what kind of music was it? i found some rap songs he made that are just whatever, but the flow and his intonation are actually surprisingly 'professional', but it's like boring white guy parody rap. i had assumed that you meant like something involving guitar since he plays guitar.

also that's fucking insane, re: mike getting arrested, like how the fuck does that happen? i mean it's one thing for people to report it, but how do you get arrested for that? i thought that you could legally have a like open kkk meeting, and that's the point of the first ammendment, etc. It makes even more sense why Mike is actually a free speech guy, he truly has been fucked over by it more than any of these guys who claim to have been fucked over by it but haven't, yet also don't truly believe in it.

Also it's kind of insane how there's like next to no info on mike online if you try to look any of this stuff up, you'd think there'd at least be a lot of results from like haters/fools alone, but even then there's like nothing.

Hey Mike remember when you yelled at the fans because they didn't want to advertise that they were watching the show on their personal facebook pages? it was sometime in 2011, anyways thanks for always being so nice to the callers

i'm watching redbarradio with mike d. here's a link https://youtu.be/U57x5lxiN-g

The livestreams are always free and this link will be dead once it's over.

The best way I can describe Mike's music is: weezer if weezer was one guy with a guitar and a better sense of humor and no depression

Example:

Another meh show today. Jules really kills the vibe with her constant interjections and scoffing. I think Mike is at his best when he gets into his childlike-yet-perceptive/observant absurdism, which takes time to unravel, and Mike rarely gets there anymore with Jules constantly derailing his train of thought. I can’t be the only one who feels this way.

She used to stay mostly quiet but yeah, it really is constant these days and she seems to think she's a cohost. Don't hesitate to email Mike and tell him.

Yeah, I might throw him my two cents. He probably checks this thread regularly, and he must get similar feedback from time to time, but it’s worth a shot.
