Letting him just suffocate and die like that seems brutal even if he is brain-dead. I've never understood why they don't just give him a vial of morphine and let whatever's left float away peacefully. They did the same shit with Terry Schaivo, disconnect the feeding tube and literally let her rot away. Absolutely fucking brutal, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

You literally cannot miss the information that renders your post as being in another reality. The amount of people agreeing with you is crazy given the massive swathe of info in the OP alone. This is not like Terry in the slightest.
His brain was too necrotic to register pain at all and his lungs did not communicate with anything hence the ventilator. He could not
suffocate because there was no fight to breathe at all on any level. There was nothing to float away. His brain was so dead that morphine has zero function, it doesn't do anything, it doesn't register pain or distress that requires relief from opiates. He had zero awareness or bodily function. They took off the vent, his chest went still, and he turned blue minutes later. That is how bodies die, he died normally, and nobody had to listen to a death rattle or see him panic or struggle. They would have been told what would happen. There was no suffering, he didn't have enough brain to suffer with, the hospital were exceptionally careful in his futile treatment that definitely wasn't brutal to anybody.
