Do you think the book of "crazy things that happen in the everyday of Alexandra's stupidly dramatic life" she mentions in this story post she made today is the title of said book? It would be as ridiculous as its contents.

Fuck I love Alexandra. Opening her eyes and being on drugs makes her puke all over the resus area, where she stayed for 24 hours exactly. She needed to go to a trauma hospital and be resuscitated after dislocating her hip. Also, her puke is green, which matches the aesthetic of her blanket(?).

Fun fact about how Instagram works, the background color of the text boxes in her post matches the color of details in the photo. You can do this using a color selector. It's something you wouldn't bother with if you couldn't open your eyes without green-puking all over. Not sure how doable it is for someone with <5% total vision.

Neck IVs are incredibly fucking uncomfortable. Normally I'd be sympathetic, but it's Paige, so nope. I'm guessing she always gets knocked out with gas before IVs are placed for surgery these days. It's the merciful thing to do for people with fucked veins and most anesthesiologists will do it so you don't have to lie in a freezing cold OR while multiple people try to get a line in on several limbs at once (depending on how fucked the veins are and how quickly they need to do the surgery).

I was knocked out with gas (UK) before a planned operation as they’d butchered the good vein in my elbow. They stuck the cannula in once I was out cold.

I’ve seen it done in the US but only for the most fucked of veins in someone requiring emergency surgery, and only after they’ve tried and failed on both arms while awake.

This surprised me, too. Usual disclaimer about how I’m not a human medfag, but in the veterinary world we try to avoid using inhalants before placing an IV if at all possible. You can’t really reverse gas anesthesia, so if you’re gonna depress respiration and the cardiovascular system, you want intravenous access in place beforehand whenever possible to push stimulants like atropine or epi if something goes bad. If we have to anesthetize a fractious patient and there’s no way to do it without chemical restraint, we use a readily reversible sedative like dexmedetomidine.

I'm not from NZ but I am from Australia and without PLing too much it's something I've been consistently offered. Usually our medical practices are very, very similar to NZ, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did that there too. I didn't realise it wasn't something they didn't do in the US.
