Creative works you enjoyed until politics happened - "How politics made me hate Welcome to Nightvale and other things"

I miss the F plus podcast. I started listening to them my freshman year of high-school and they introduced me to cringe/lolcow culture. Most of the hosts were enjoyable and had good chemistry but once 2016 happened they had a decline, especially lemon. I ended up just dropping them when they did their livestream for an abortion charity. Null and Metokur kinda scratch the itch, but I want more cringy online community exploration videos.

The Dollop is another podcast I dropped. This one was a comedy history podcast, but 2016 they just completely went all in on Trump jokes and it got old real fast. I don't really miss them because Dankula's mad lads fills that niche nicely.

Podcasts have gotten really bad in terms of political sperging. One I did listen to for quite some time was Timesuck. Dan never got too political, and when he did it was relative to the topic at hand, he also had libertarian leanings which was as a breath of fresh air from the constant far left screeching. Had to drop him though because he’s lost that libertarian outlook and drank the leftist kool-aid, advocating for CRT to be taught in schools, bringing up abortion out of nowhere, things like that. Sucks because he used to be a pretty funny and informative guy before going down that road

Sacha baron Cohen does the same schtick any other hack European Comedian does. Performative "lol and uneducated Americans" routines. He's no better then clowns for some Dutch late night show going to New York City and asking random passerby to point out Amsterdam on a map or ask them who the Prime Minister of Belgium is. They will never show the people who get it right.

And also assume that anyone cares about countries smaller then most individual US States in both size and population.
It’s obvious that most Northern and Western European hack comedians hate Americans. Particularly white working class Americans. They mostly just joke about them being POOR and RACIST and STUPID because that’s their impression of this group of Americans.

Poor white people are the only people that it’s socially acceptable to hate here in the U.K. as well.

Same here in Canada but the media and Leftists generally like to go after that demographic of Americans because it scratches two itches at once: shitting on white people while looking down their noses at Americans.

Honestly I am starting to get worried about the hate boner the Canadian Left is having over America. Part of what has allowed the US and Canada to largely cohabitate peacefully for almost 200 years is the understanding we can get along with each other. When Trudeau stood in the well of Parliament during the trucker protests and raged about American influence destabilizing Canada I had a bad premonition for the future.

Hopefully we can annex Canada in the coming decades. Or rather, the better parts of Canada.

I hate that even color patterns now can't be seen as just colors that work well together, but are instead symbols for the various flavors of sexuality.
I somehow forgot to send this reply earlier, but I remember that specific color gradient on the "trans flag" used to be used in videogames on flickering glowing portals and lasers and shit and I'm surprised I haven't seen more latching onto that aside from the fucking "commit suicide beam!" meme which isn't a video game laser reference and just a coincidence. It's always the shit that just so happens to contain pink and blue.

I was never embarrassed about having a shelf full of D&D books. I went through the Satanic panic with them, one of my school teachers told another student that I was messed up in the head for liking D&D. I had to see TV movies like Mazes and Monsters, Cruel Doubt, and talk shows talking about how it was a doorway to Satanism. None of it really phased me or diminished my interest.

Then it went woke. Now I regret buying all that stuff. I mean it's not like I threw the old books away, and I haven't played since I was a kid. I just think I would have been better off spending my money elsewhere when I was a kid.
I wouldn't. Don't let those wankers ruin the good times you had in your childhood.

Other than a handful of bands, both Death Metal and Black Metal remain untouched. I'm really happy that that's the case, since Punk somehow went from Minor Threat to soyboy corporate cheerleading, and unfortunately all of the non-woke Punk out there seems like it's trash. It's all just reactionary drivel.

That being said, Bad Brains will always have a special place in my heart even though they're obnoxiously left-wing.

Death Metal has been pretty ate up with lame ideologies for the last decade, honestly. Thankfully most of them keep gay shit to a minimum musically but a lot of the actual musicians are insufferable fags.

Other than Imperial Triumphant and Cattle Decapitation, who else has been openly ideological? At least I haven't noticed it that much.
I suppose Deathspell Omega could be considered ideological, but they're their own special brand of insanity. I would label them as contrarians.

i dont get turned off of a thing because of politics. i get turned off because of bad politics
I gave Danny Boyle's Sex Pistols docudrama a fair shake until the character that portrays one of the founding members says she decided to sing because she needed a voice to "scream at the white hetero normative patriarchy."

Yea ok, a band started in fucking 1975 was founded because of neo Marxist gender nonsense that didn't even fucking exist until the late 90's at the earliest.
isnt the sex pistols like a really laddish band too. weird...

I've been watching Lucifer and it's been alright. The charm wears a little thin after a bit but I like bible/theology/religious based properties so I stick with it. Late Season 4 there is a typical "black people dindu" episode, which took me by surprise because there is literally zero dindu themed episodes before this. Plenty of black characters and not a single "We wuz so oppressed" shit. What took me by surprise is the manner in which I was supposed to be enraged by the social injustice was a bait and switch shtick they use constantly, the whole black kid was reported to be selling drugs (ohh wait he was) and he was reported to be a murderer and the murder weapon was found in his locker. So you know, the police arrested the dangerous drug selling murderer, in front of the black angel who now realizes that the police don't believe the kid dindu nuffin and somehow he was arrested only because he was black. Every other episode someone is getting arrested for having the murder weapon, but like the kid, they didn't do it. Except it's never drama outside of how you'd feel about being falsely arrested, it's never race baiting bs.

Regardless I didn't expect Dickens from Lucifer, but I have to ask myself that for a show with a writing team that has always played it extremely straight, why the extremely poorly written dindu episode that seems so oblivious that maybe it might have been an attempt at reverse social commentary. Idk. They go back to playing straight immediately after this episode. Another reason I think this may have been some kind of meta commentary is after everyone bends over backwards to prove this kids innocence, a dindu kills him.

This happens again in the final season and it's even worse. It struck me as network mandated bullshit, same as a lot of cop shows had forced on them around the time of BLM. I'd say the showrunner for Lucifer decided to jam all the network notes into a single, easily skippable, episode per season, rather than shitting up an entire season with it like Brooklyn Nine-Nine chose to do for their finale.

Worst example of this anti-racism shite was The Goldbergs one.

I quite enjoyed seasons 1-4 for what they were, but I found season 5 borderline unwatchable and didn't even bother with season 6 anymore. It really does get worse than this episode and according to the 1-star reviews I read there is a super cringe "evil toxic masculinity" one as well. A lot of people blame the switch to Netflix with season 4.
