General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

I'm just watching this because I love me some Megaman. Goddamn, it is painful to watch. I'm only competent at the series despite my love for it, but there is no excuse for Chill Penguin's stage taking over an hour to beat. I get that Megaman can be hard at points, but seeing her forget how to do basic stuff like jumping & shooting and refusing to learn how to properly dash because "it feels weird"? I'm only at her finishing Spark Mandrill's stage and I've had to stop multiple times out of personal fan autism.
Now you know how I feel when Lumi played two hours of Project Wingman and couldn't figure out there was an accelerate button. Or when Pippa beat all of MGR, and both DLCs without figuring out how a single one of the game's mechanics works. It's like getting excited that someone who you enjoy watching is playing your favorite games, but then 10 minutes in, you come the the most horrible of conclusions. They're women under the age of 30.

Who are you referring to? Made me curious because I had not heard of Kobo's roommate being discovered yet. The usual websites are speculating this chick Rainych, damn, over 2 million subscribers! But Kobo is not following her on Twitter.

I am not entirely convinced, Rainych's english skills appear well above Kobo's. The voices are similar, but not entirely the same. It could be really good voice acting or a voice changer at work for that annoying Kobo brat voice.
I don't think it's Rainych, she has a better grasp on English and a slightly sharper voice when she sings + if she were to ever join Hololive, I'd wager she'd end up being a category of her own like Irys ala HoloID Vsinger, if this were to ever happen. I know HoloID already has Moona and Risu as some of the best singers out there, but Rainych is kind of like Namirin/Irys with how successful she already is (2.1 mil subs, covers with mils views, has done collabs with evening cinema, noticed by doja cat).

Plus, she has the added advantage of being able to mix and produce her own vocals if she wanted. A lot of people would have already figured out it's her a long time ago if it was her.

For comparison:

Not to be that guy who screams about numbers and metrics, but they aren't doing great when it comes to live viewership. Most have evened out to a flat 1k or lower. Better than your average indie for sure, but when you consider the peak viewership they got for the debut streams compared to Holostars, the pre-debut sub ratio surpassing all prior Niji waves and even the sheer amount of airtime they got handed (a fair number of talents went on vacation or took part in additional work requirements since the debut) and it's got to sting a little knowing you can barely match the yabbing fish.
When do we get the Discord leak of Holo saying that Iluna didn't meet Anycolor's expectations. Niji boys in shambles, Holostars thriving.

RainyCh is also under Sony Music Japan iirc, so it wouldn't make sense for her to be a Vtuber especially since her career as an artist is at it's infancy

I’m torn about whether she’s good or bad at it. Comparing to myself, I imagine I took longer than ~10 total hours to beat the game the first time I played it and I grew up playing megaman 2 and 3 (going from those to a game where you ‘dash-jump-wall jump-dodge-while holding a charge shot’ is a pretty big leap, even though X isn’t the hardest one and that is not particularly necessary movement), but then there’s also the buff of chat being able to backseat all the secrets and weapon weaknesses, which cuts down on the difficulty a lot.

Basically my read is; the game looked easier than I remember, but she makes it look hard, but then she still somehow succeeds anyway. She’s very skilled at gaming in some aspects, and other times you wonder what the heck is going on in her head; classic IRyS

And if you think clearing the first stage took a while, did you see how long the intro stage took?
Besides, very few of these people are pro-gamers, occasionally being tortured is one of the reasons we’re here.
I did because I'm watching the recording. It took me two attempts to finish watching her fail at the opening stage for 20+ minutes. I was losing it at her not jumping over the cars

While ILUNA's numbers are pretty sad to see, especially considering the numbers and hype they had before, I wouldn't dismiss them entirely. We have had them for two weeks, so who knows what their numbers will look like within a month or two. On the flip side, I am pleasently surprised to see how well the stars boys are doing. They seem really geniune and seeing their success despite everyone's low expectations is nice to see and I hope they continue to do well.
hope they get sick 2nd outfits/redesigns soon to match their bomb ass personalities.

Rainych is honestly too big to join an agency, doing so would just be a downgrade for her and she wouldn't gain anything. inb4 "but muh gura", senzawa had a lot of subs but she got a fraction of that on her streams, the only reason she was popular was the shitposts which attracted a lot of superficial fans but not anyone who would actually stick around.

IIRC, Luna could only beat Chill Penguin without putting the game on Rookie Hunter mode.
HOW? The only thing difficult in Chill Penguin's stage is that second jump up when you're in the cavern due to the distance and the snowball chuckers being annoying little shits. Even as a kid, I only died to Chill Penguin if my health was low enough when facing him only to push his shit in when I respawn

I think some of it is just reflective of how much games have changed along with the ages of the tubers. Newer games focus more on reaction speed etc than pattern recognition in my experience, younger gamers tend to be better at FPS type games than puzzles and pattern based platformers.

Which is why I want to see more vtubers play Crash Bandicoot type games which make them mald and make me feel like a more accomplished gamer for being able to chuckle and say "lol what a noob"

Mega Man X is one of my favourite games and I have basically the whole thing memorised at this point, but in general I think Mega Man games don't lend themselves well to blind livestreams. By design they're the kind of games you play trial-and-error to get a feel for how the levels play, where the upgrade items are hidden, which weapon is most effective on which boss etc., which isn't particularly interesting stream content, unless you have chat backseating (in which case you might as well just keep a guide open, at least that doesn't come with a 30-second delay).

I'm surprised how rarely I see vtubers streaming games they've familiarised themselves with first, it's something I miss from classic Let's Plays back in the day. I guess it's a gamble as to whether the blind reactions are going to be worth jumping into a game for the first time on stream or not though.
