The wonderful Brianna "I am a female and have lived the experience all my life" Wu on the BBC:

"I actually have an employee at my comapny, and her entire role is to just simply handle all the harassment and threats that I get."

Where's the Natalie, John?
Her hair looks like someone glued dyed straw to her head.
You know what I find the worst part of this? It's at least partly true.

Because lets face it, there's plenty of sexism in the gaming community that should be addressed, and I have no doubt that some of the "harassment" claims are indeed very true and in some cases even serious.

But before we continue, lets do a Godwin. Those are always fun.

Anyone ever heard of the German corpse factory myth? During the first world war there were widespread rumours of German troops committing all sorts of atrocities: rape, pillaging, looting, you know, the usual. Two of the most famous are crucifixion of British soldiers and the myth that the Germans had factories to corpses to soap and oil. It's often said that these rumours were initiated by the British government to increase the anti-German sentiment, but I'm not sure if that's actually true. But they sure as hell never did anything to waylay these patently false rumours and they were wildly printed in newspapers of the day as truth. Much of the public believed these fairly outlandish myths because, why would they lie about it? Why wouldn't it be true? It was a more naive time...

After the war the truth came out, and people were rightfully enraged. Much of the British public wasn't a big fan of the war effort after some spectacular losses early in the war, and the public pretty much got lied to in order to sucker them into the war (sounds familiar, doesn't it).

Now, fast forward 25 years and there was another war going on. This time the Germans really were the "bad guys" (unlike the first world war, which is a lot more murky), and when the German extermination camps started churning in 1942 there were again, rumours. But this time, the public was a lot more skeptical as they remembered the lies from the previous war. Some of the stories sounded really overblown and incredible, just like the stories from the first world war. Note that this applies to both the British *and* German population. Das habe ich nicht gewusst (I did not know) was for the most part true. Allied troops showed footage of the camps in movie theatres after the war, and it was mandatory for all Germans to attend. To make sure everyone knew this wasn't yet another rumour spread by the British government.

Would things have turned out different if the lies of the first world war hadn't occurred? Maybe, maybe not. But I feel that it's entirely likely that millions of lives could have been saved.

How does this relate to Brianna Wu? She also lies to gain support. Most likely some of it is true, but at this point it's difficult to tell what exactly. In lying (which she's not even very good at) she is really fucking over her own community. The next female gamer (or game dev) that really *IS* being stalked by some pathetic basement dwelling sperg will not be taken serious; "yeah, yeah, another Wu". And yes, there have been cases of internet stalkers killing people. Every time someone talks about sexism in video games eyes worldwide roll and thing "yawn, another Wu". And yes, sexism is video game community is real.

The best thing anyone interested in stopping sexism and harassment (and I'm one of those left-wing liberal bleeding heart assholes who cares) is to disown Brainna Wu as loud and clear as possible and then never ever talk about her again. I'll restrain myself so I'll be polite, but I have nothing but disdain for this pathetic cunt who rapes her own community for selfish personal gain. This is why she's an order of a magnitude worse than CWC or Nick Bates or any of those unhinged assholes with several personality disorders if you ask me.

So there. I've said my piece.
GameGate isn't Nazi-Germany.
There is no secret cabal of white males, drinking whisky in their gentlemen's club and planning to force all women back into the kitchen.
If any historical allegory is appropriate, than that Pol Pot killed all the people with glasses to 'remove' all the intellectuals... not that I support killing intellectuals.
If the version of GamerGate Wu tries to sell to public would be Nazi-Germany, well... let's just say if the Nazis were anything, they were efficient.

In any case, even if there was a misogynst gestapo that monitors the tech industry, making sure women didn't make it to the top and stealing 23 cents for every dollar a woman earns, Brianna Wu would still be a professional victim and feed off other peoples misery by putting herself in the spotlight, when she isn't harassed at all. But there isn't a GamerStapo, there also isn't a malekavian misogynist network that links all the minds of straight white males together with internalized misogyny. Of course there is still sexism, but it is neither that massive and nowhere near that prevalent. If you want to have a good Godwin here in relation to Brianna Wu, look no further than this.

One thing I was considering - If she always has the power to complain to someone to get accounts deleted, posts hidden, people banned etc, what if we paid for advertising on an SJW / similar site, or a site that brianna is fond of / frequents / can't live without, and upload some true and honest factoids, linking back to her lolcow page?

Thing is, what sites does Wu even have enough of a presence on these days that this would be effective?

I ask because I remember reading about this trick when it was done against OPL and god it would be fantastic to do on Wu, I just don't know of the ideal place to do this.

Wouldn't it be a federal crime if the internet was used to send actual, believable death threats? It would've been passed on to the FBI regardless.

Not defending Wu, but that's a minor thing.

They key requirement being "actual, believable death threats"

Taking Wu as an example, these people believe that stuff likee a video of a questionably sane man crashing a Prius are "actual, believable death threats"

"the FBI only have to see the hair, the piercings and all the SJW standard behaviour pattern to simply ignore all of this whiners".

The "everyone" is implied.

Only in so far as the population fitting that description who send crap to the FBI in the first place.

Truly amazing. Same obnoxious font that all ads use too!
But you could do more! Tweak 'em a bit to have little tidbits of info like
*Racist past!* *Harassment Baiting!* Brianna Wu IS John W. Flynt! *Never graduated college!* *Commited RAPE under false pretenses!*

Wait, rape? Is that calling back to that weird tweet where Wu claimed to enjoy lying about their birth gender to men when hanky panky time came around? Because if it's not, then I've yet to hear about it.

Wow, this makes you wonder if John and Frank actually fell in love, or John just married him to snake his way into Frank's money.

No question Frank and BriBri are even remotely in love with each other - it's a marriage of convenience, though we're still trying to understand what benefits Frank even gets out of the arrangement.

...Speaking of the Twitter Trust and Safety council, I have a suspicious feeling that the reason why John was rage-tweeting a while ago was because he wasn't included in it.
Or anybody not in his sphere of influence.

I'll readily admit that I've entered my third decade and that it's been a decade since I've been involved in serious online gaming, but back in my day I've seen plenty of very sexual comments. I very much like sex-positive feminism by the way, and very much dislike sex-negative feminists who constantly complain about "boohoo he talked about sex with his mate within earshot of me", but asking a girl in an online chat to suck your dick is not really sex-positive. It's insulting, disrespectful, degrading, and downright abusive.

I think much of the time that someone in an online game is acting like a child, it is because they actually are a child.

But that doesn't make for a compelling narrative. A shadowy, anonymous cabal of evil sexist males is a lot more scary sounding than "I'm mad that a 12 year old autist insulted me."

Yeah, age is definitely a factor.

This is similar to the Islam discussion yesterday; it's very important to calmly and carefully look at the causes, so we can better understand the entire situation, and how to address it. Going off screeching and halfcocked never did anyone any good.

I should write a quick markov bot based on all of Wu's tweets. Should take me about 20 minutes. Not a lot of effort required in programming a bot, John. Unless, you don't know how to code.

Despite ten years of on and off enrollment in journalism courses, Flynt/Wu can't write a coherent sentence. The idea that he taught himself to code is exceptionally risible.

Coding and language are two different skills, you can be good in one, and shit at the other. And lets face it, the game does work. So it's not like she can't do anything.

in the credits of Revolution 60, John only appears as Head of development and other fancy stuff that we all know he doesn't know, he can barely do lights in unreal because is the only thing he can do

Except we know the truth about that, too.

The reason Rev60 cost $400,000 to make was because Wu kept hiring programmers, training them from scratch, then shit-canning them once they'd outlasted their usefulness.

I remember that john said he wasted a lot of money because R60 was so terrible that keeps bricking all the iPads they used for testing

Lol, okay. Also, I've seen plenty of "professional" programmers who wouldn't know to write a line of coherent code to save their lives (quite literally). There are a lot of blatantly incompetent programmers.

Probably both are true. There are tweets from Wu after the fallout with one of her "team", as well as stating the training from scratch. Since they were all trained like that, I don't believe it would be inconceivable that they bricked with bad coding. (I have no idea about coding, so...)

Fully agree about coding and language being two unrelated skill sets. One of my old college buddies is borderline illiterate, but he's a senior systems architect at one of the largest non-governmental computer installations in the world. I was attempting to make the point that, even with formal academic training in a subject, Flynt/Wu cannot demonstrate basic competence; in computer science, an area where he is self-taught, he displays hopeless ignorance every time he writes about it.

We also know from Wu's own admission that 10000+ poly objects were the norm in Revolution 60.

In a game made for IOS. From three years ago.

That's fucking Amy levels of shit optimization.

I don't believe that John has even minimal competence at programming.
