The last time a backup for this thread was brought up, everyone whined and cried about the evil of Discord and how the program raped their mothers and whatnot.

At this rate though, an actual backup plan would be a smart thing to have. Before it was just "boohoo Josh is going to nuke us!" But this shit here could actually end the whole damn site.

So I guess it's either get over the Discord hangups or figure out a better alternative. It never hurts to be prepared.

I would love to but I wouldn't touch crypto with a ten foot pole. Is there any other way to pay the great leader?

But i do believe (at least for the time being), a lot of cover's restrictions and rules are to protect talent. more pragmatically: if not to protect talent, at least protect the reputation of the company

If you use Brave browser you can set it up to send BAT to him monthly. I know, crypto blah blah, but it's virtually zero effort/cost and he says it helps. You don't get "True and Honest" status, but I'm ok with that.

What I suggest is this; I had seen users in this thread saying that they were in touch with each other (watching streams, playing games) and to do that they were probably using (something like) Discord. Find people that you hang out with from here, stay in touch and talk about vtubing. Will it be the same like this thread were you can get a plethora of information and spergery? No, but I do think that it's better than being on a discord with strangers. If you aren't that close with anyone (which I am going to claim is most of us), well, nothing we can do I am afraid. What options do we have? Make a forum with string and pennies? Good luck with that.

You can see he is able to accept some gift cards and other payment forms, though he states he does prefer crypto for various reasons. Any amount at this point can probably be of use.

Also as for a backup, what about a telegram group similar to the one being used as a forum backup?

Edit - @Takodachi So far Null hasn't broken any laws and I feel like it's a stretch to feel like any movement will be made based just on MTGs retardation - an actual investigation done by competent people, not journos, would probably quickly reveal that no one here was actually doing this shit nor had any reason to.
The reason money can help is because the big risk is that the hosts he uses to keep the site up are not returning his calls and are shunning him to avoid fallout from the troon brigades. If he has to find new hosting or buy new equipment to mitigate ddos he will be facing new expenses on top of already having to keep lawyers on retainer to fight the constant litigation harassment.

The problem with this is this thread has a very specific culture which would be almost impossible to recreate elsewhere.

Any thread on the Kiwi Farms benefits from the forum's optics as a whole - the irritating political progressives who poison every other fan community wouldn't be caught dead posting here, so we don't have to worry about being taken over by conversations about how trap jokes or saying the funny gamer words are hecking problematic and we should educate ourselves.

iirc the previous Discord fell apart because it became a dumping ground for people crying about Josh, and sexually explicit content. I have no issue with people drawing whatever they like, but "she's so hot, I'm gonna coom" does not invite interesting discussion. The forum discouraging thirstposting does wonders for the actual substance of the thread.

The best potential alternative I could think of if push came to shove is a new forum, but it'd have to be managed in a way that doesn't spread the conversation across too many subforums. Splitting people up by the particular streamers they watch can encourage tribalfagging and also reduces the discoverability of one of my favourite parts of this thread, people posting fun clips and songs from vtubers I otherwise wouldn't have thought to watch.

I hope Josh is able to hold this place together one way or another. I (obviously) don't see eye to eye with him on everything, but the man has principles and goes out of his way to act in the community's best interests even at great cost and detriment to himself. I respect that a lot.
