@0 1 Your OP is missing some important context that "Liz", unfortunately, has literally changed the world. While at Google, Liz coauthored the "Real Names Considered Harmful" letter, which was part (archive) of a back-and-forth (archive) that has actually shaped policy at Google and etc.
There's a lot to be said for anonymity and pseudononymity - I'm taking advantage of that now. It's necessary for certain classes of crimes to be uncovered and distributed, for certain kinds of debates to happen. It's not wrong to ask people to call you by your preferred name, lots of people go by nicknames, a smaller few change their names for good reason. Elliot Fong changed his name to suit his sexual fetishes and to derive a sense of power over people by making them deny reality for his sake. Every good argument will have criminals that take advantage of it. This is a perfect example of how the righteous and the vile are arguing for the same thing, but the direction that it's pointed matters a lot.
