Maybe, but I dont think at that point it is just team troon. If they get a win vs KF, then they start looking at the next target, which if I was guessing would be anything considered "alt-right". Hell we currently have a president openly stating that anyone that supports a specific candidate are threats to the Democracy. It doesn't seem like a huge leap to have the troony brigade get together with bad faith politicians to go after their political opponents and if they are a threat to Democracy, it is pretty easy to slip some rule forcing providers to censor sites into the next budget package. From there its just a matter of time until the other side gets power and goes for payback.

I'm really conflicted about this. On one hand, I feel like there's enough intelligent people in the government to who would realize that that kind of regulation on the internet is a bad idea and block it from going through. On the other hand though, the government has done so much retarded shit lately that a part of me is starting to think that they would actually impose regulations like that.

What you're missing is that our legislative branch is not functional. Look at abortion, I'm pro-life but it's not a very popular position, I bet a bunch of the farmers here are pro-choice. But the Democrats with majorities in both houses and the White House can't pass a law to make abortion legal nationally because (1) they can't overcome the filibuster (2) they don't have the will to end the filibuster and (3) the Democratic party itself is larger and more popular but actually includes too many large factions and couldn't actually agree with itself on an abortion law.

The CF statement was pretty unambiguous imo. They even state that they regret dropping StormFront. I hope I am just doom pilled on government at this point but I honestly don't believe anyone that is in the federal government is doing it for any other reason than a selfish one. I think it is a flaw in our system that it is no longer a public service to join the government. The people that are attracted to the job are the ones that are looking to benefit from it, via power or wealth. They might be smart but if there is a personal incentive to do it, which I believe the incentive would be to get re-elected, then they will do it. We leave alot of responsibility on this to the voters who are supposed to be engaged and able to comprehend what is happening and we are so far away from that reality that the destruction of the system is basically inevitable at this point.
I get what you are saying, and fundamentally agree with you, the fact that the Senate is designed to prevent things from passing is one of the smartest choices made by the founders. However, I don't think the Democrats want to pass a nationwide abortion law. They can use that as low hanging fruit for there donors for at least the next decade. If they pass it, they can't fundraise on passing it.
It isn't so much the statement that is concerning to me, it is the lack of statements from the so-called rights groups that gets me. This is a clear cut choice between a path that leads to censorship and a path that holds on to the ideal of an open internet just a little bit longer. Yet, not one site has come out to say how bad we are but that we should be allowed to exist. I get nervous when a single company, and maybe just a single CEO is the person that is left standing in the way of what they are trying to do. Even if he is the most steadfast free speech absolutist, that is a very thin thread to hold onto when looking years down the road.

Ya I don't buy this line. People said this for literally decades about abortion with the Republican Party--Roe would never be overturned because Republicans get too much money and rage votes over abortion. Parties fundamentally want to enact policies, it's what they're there for. Exceptions to this rule are just that, exceptions. The real problem for the democrats besides the filibuster is the details--most Americans want abortion legal but they want it capped at 15 weeks, where most people arbitrarily draw the line because they're uninformed, dumb and don't have sensical ideas about politics and policy. Pro-abortion feminist extremists in the party want it legal till the baby leaves the birth canal though and most abortion activists want to at least return to Roe-laws which allowed it up to 26 weeks. Actually having to hash this out would be pretty destructive for the party and the pro-choice movement in general.
