Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

I'm kind of looking forward for the Cyberpunk anime. It'll be interesting to see what the Japs think about it.

As someone who isn't a big Dragon Ball guy, I really liked this and find it more interesting than most of the actual show.
Btw, has anyone seen the new Dragon Ball Movie? Piccolo is my favorite character so I was really happy that he was more or less the main character of this one and that the movie really gave him the respect he deserves.

I saw it last week, and I really enjoyed it. I would have preferred a fully 2D-animated movie, but the CGI didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. It basically was a Piccolo movie, and it was great that he got a lot of screentime and this movie wasn't just "Gokuwinslol" like a lot of Dragon Ball has been. (And the reason for why Goku and Vegeta aren't around for this one is pretty funny too.) Gohan also got another chance to shine, and the fact that Gohan Blanco is real now and not just a meme is absolutely hilarious to me.

It was a very funny movie, pretty much had me chuckling and grinning all the way through. It was also a very heavily Dragon Ball movie; you can probably make a drinking game out of how many references there are to the original Dragon Ball, and they're all worked into the story well. Also a lot of references to DBZ; actually using Fat Gotenks in a fight (and kind of succeeding) was hysterical. The fight scenes kind of had the same issue I had with the end of Broly where it was borderline audiovisual nonsense, but it really isn't a dealbreaker for me. And man, you really can't beat that kind of spectacle on the big screen. I imagine seeing it in a packed theater of DB fans would be an experience in itself.

So yeah, definitely recommend.

Really enjoyed the Cyberpunk anime. They nailed the setting perfectly and it was a great ride from start to finish. Only complaint is that they really needed another episode or two post-timeskip. Also Rebecca is a cuck.

Doraemon still makes me chuckle, even if there are still episodes that are lost due to time.

Everyone's praising Trigger's Cyberpunk anime and I'm filled with suspicion whenever something new arrives. It either becomes massively forgettable after the season of which it was released in (My Dress Up Darling) or it becomes shit because of a dogshit ending, especially if its Trigger (Franxx).

It's Trigger, more or less people will definitely like it for their animation.
Story wise, I say it's solid, not really masterpiece or horrible by any means. But depends on how familiar you're with other cyberpunk theme like Minority Report, GiTS and Psycho Pass, you'll see some tropes and story direction/prediction as you watch. For zoomers, I'm not surprised if they find it "unique/new".

It's only have like 10 episodes, so pacing in later parts may be fast or abrupt. Then again, it stays true with Cyberpunk settings in Night City, "Wrong people, wrong city". Characters have flaws, but they are likable.

Since this is Netflix release, all episodes are released at once, it's definitely not gonna be discussed much after like a month, And there's definitely no second season with how story ends, story happens a few years before Cyberpunk 2077.

I actually managed to see Promare when it first came out in American theaters, it was packed with fans of Gurren Lagann and Kill La Kill who roared and cheered every time something big happened which was often since pretty much all of Promare's substance is in it's style. I went with some friends and relatives who thought the loud audience was autistic as shit and though I agree, I most likely would have joined them if I were there alone since a man's (or woman's) love for giant robots and the shirtless men piloting them doing cool shit is the most beautiful autism there is.
I started watching Initial D while full of work, terrible idea. This shit's fire and eating into my sleep.
Season one is pretty much a masterpiece, I need to finish it myself. Got kind of burned out around the 4th stage but I'd never say it gets bad, stick with it cause it's an amazing series but never listen to the OST while driving, trust me.

You can watch it now when you're skeptical or watch it later when the faggot fandom makes you feel revulsion upon hearing the name.

have you guys read the manga Aiki? it was made by Isutoshi who was famous for making another classic called slut girl. if you into battle shonen, fart and dick jokes, rape and the abuse of women kind, it would highly recommend it.

the main character is such a lovable asshole. one of the better ones out there.

I appreciate the main character's dumbass face but man these are some ugly bitches.
It ain't hooking me yet but thanks for the reccomendation.

I dunno why people keep saying this, I mean if the season's over what are we supposed to be constantly talking about? It's not a mystery series or some sci-fi shit, was everybody meant to go out and get tattoos? And this sentiment became a meme like 5 minutes after finished airing too.
On the other hand as manga enjoyer who thought it was obscure and didn't even watch the show until last week I'm glad nobody's talking about it. This was supposed to be a secret shame

I think he's implying that the overflux of one-cour shows per season has killed the audience's attention spans to where no one wants to sit back for a bit to see if they really appreciated the work or not and discuss it with friends or other like-minded fans, they're just mindlessly consooming the next product and forget about the past shows they claimed to have enjoyed. No one's saying My Dress Up Darling was a hidden gem and the plebs "just don't get it", but how many of those who watched it as it aired are going to look back on it in the upcoming months/years through rewatches or retrospects? It was popular, but was it more like a flash in the pan to be forgotten about? That kind of mindset is something that you know wasn't what the creator was shooting for.

Anime's job is to just advertise the manga/light novel/game/idol group/whatever and those sales figures determine if a new season is palatable, as well as if the manga is to continue serialization (if it was still on-going at the time). Unless it was extremely potent, had a fervid fanbase before the adaptation, or is a long-runner, the vast majority of new shows (even popular ones) come and go like a fart in the wind. It may still find an audience for years to come, but it will be more of a trickle effect than a flowing river. Depending on who you ask, this isn't entirely a bad thing, but nothing's more disappointing than watching or reading a series you come to like just to find out the fandom/discussion is not what it used to be/out-right dead. And without that constant nurture, your love for that series may falter.

And then the void cycle continues...

I meant I keep hearing that specific thing about that specific show and I don't know why it was immediately such a meme.
I can't see the expectation being different for an unassuming no-stakes kinda gay cosplay romance thing, I don't know why this is remarkable.
