President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Pretty much, but it wouldn't be the first place named after its position relative to somewhere else. The Netherlands, for instance. It was probably originally named for being the southern borderlands of the Kievan Rus.
The Kievan Rus and then later on the Russian Empire under Moscow's rule, considering the Crimean Khanate loved fucking them over to the point even Catherine the Great paid them tribute. And considering what a swampy shithole the Netherlands is calling that place the nether regions of Europe is entirely accurate, especially since the people living there are a bunch of walking genitalia.

Poo tin pretend annexes part of Ukraine, so the Director General of the Ukrainian Post Office declares the annexation of the Kremlin.

So Putin held a speech and officially annexed the four territories.

Not even the world's biggest importer of Russian cum, Serbia, is recognizing this shit, LMAO.

Putin's speech:

In case you don't have the time or desire to listen to a coping manlet, this basically sums it up:

When is the world going to learn that manlets should never be given power? Putin is already dealing with the whole mongoloid slav defective DNA thing, but you throw in a heaping spoonful of manlet retardation and KGB glownigger sociopathy and you've got the perfect storm. The fact he fails at his bullshit just makes me thankful his mutt genes are holding him back.

If all goes according to plan the Russians will have to sell their land back to the Mongols to avoid complete death. Then comes the reincarnation of Ghengis to return the muscovites to their rightful place as the Khans cock sock. Would rather eat Mongolian food after the Khan takes over the world than Russian "food" consisting of jellied pork giblets smothered in mayonnaise.

I actually feel bad for the conscripts who didn't support the war. It's clear that the regular units will be prioritized for reinforcements, so all the new conscripts will get old Soviet stuff. A lot of the pictures and videos also show men who look older than 50. During WW2 it at least made sense for France to mobilize its 40- and 50-year-old men because they were only expected to man the Maginot line. These poor fucks don't have any line to man because they are the line.
I feel bad for almost all Russians, even the retarded ones who think this is Russia's national destiny or whatever nonsense they spew - its not their fault they were born into a post-Soviet hell hole ran by a manlet who LARPs as a James Bond villain, but actually has a nuclear arsenal that could end human life as we know it. None of these people really brought this on themselves, or at least most of them didn't, they were conditioned to be like this and are themselves being exploited. Unfortunately, in spite of that, them being killed, maimed, broken psychologically and imprisoned is actually the best outcome for people who are sane. Hell of a situation they have been put in.
Here are some videos from Russian barracks. Notice that there is no organization or planning, which suggests that the Russian leadership panicked and rushed the mobilization.

Mobilized men are visibly getting drunk.

There's also a video where a female official recommends that conscripts ask women for tampons and pads because they are good for stopping bleeding. This video has also spawned a new variation of the old beaten-up vatnik meme.

Some conscripts are complaining about being mobilized and the officers lie to them that their jobs will still be there for them when they get home.

During the first days of mobilization, there were rumors of extreme protests in Dagestan, a non-Russian Muslim republic, and here's a video of a local official complaining about how the Russian authorities apparently tried to mobilize everyone.

It's a surprise to no one, given the shortages of basic equipment and supplies that the Russian Army in Ukraine were already facing, the idea there would be enough to train - never mind equip - these conscripts during this call up is beyond optimistic. It's insane.
The Russian mobilisation system was effectively half done away with following the collapse of the Soviet Union, but they moved to a half volunteer and half conscript force - and we are seeing the results are a worst of both worlds. Those barracks, beds, mattresses - or lack their of - probably haven't been maintained for 30 years if not longer and they are being reactivated and used as with less than a weeks preparation. Given the state of soviet workmanship, they were probably shit when they were built never mind now.

These conscripts will, for the most part, but almost useless. If we look back at WW2, the survival rate on any given day for a soldier increased over time, this makes immediate sense. Over time you learn from others, you gain personal battlefield experience and learn what works and what does. Certain immediate action drills, such as hitting the deck when being shot at, shelled or bomb, could and would save lives from sharpnel and other nasties flying about the battlefield. Western soldiers did get substantial training - usually - because asides from North Africa, the Far East and the Pacific, most were in the UK training for the invasion of Northern France. However, even then they were green upon arrival and had to learn things quickly - but at least they all knew how to do battlefield first aid, fieldcraft and how to keep clean outside, and they were fit and would have a squad or section which they had moulded into from a leadership and training perspective. The contrast is unfit, unmotivated, badly led, untrained men who are going to be put amongst depraved lunatics who are stressed and probably aware they are not just losing but realising their only way out is imprisonment, in a bodybag or minus a limb. It wont be pretty, and it wont be effective.

William Spaniel has a new video on who's to blame for the pipeline:
He has no definitive conclusion, but all but rules out all non-Russian actors, leaving only Russian factions. He also says there's no way it was an accident.

Basically implying that in future negotiations the status of these territories is not up for debate.
Putin's speech:

And unsurprisingly, at 7:35 Putin says that Russia is ready to negotiate, but that the annexed territories will not be discussed. He also says Ukraine should cease its military actions. Unless Putin is in a total bubble, he must know Ukraine will never accept these conditions, and so this is an empty offer.

Western soldiers did get substantial training - usually - because asides from North Africa, the Far East and the Pacific, most were in the UK training for the invasion of Northern France.
The US sent a few intact, pre-existing divisions from our pre-war mobilization to North Africa and Italy, and then spent the next two years training up fresh ones as both replacements for losses and fresh divisions. That was domestic training, too, only being sent to the UK for final finishing either prior to or right after D-Day. There's a reason US deployment numbers suddenly explode and its because we were keeping literal dozens of divisions in reserve for when it came time to get serious about taking the war to Germany. To paraphrase some HoI mechanics, we were just using Africa, Sicily, and Italy to grind some army and commander XP. For example, the Third Army under Patton was all pretty much fresh divisions that needed a battle-hardened officer corps to lead them, and all the army XP went to war doctrines.

True, but presumably it was going to be after Russia actually controlled the territory. Russia has only around 58% of Donetsk Oblast and not even the capital of Zaporizhizhia Oblast, and their hold on much of what they do have is directly threatened. Map from a few days ago:

NYT article on how the military said it was time to get out of Kherson and Putin said no:
Add to the list of Putin's age-related health issues: "Premature annexation"

I have a client working in city administration with friends in places. Told me an anecdote from the frontline, where buddy of his laments that in months of being there they barely even got to see Ukrainians (maybe just once, in the distance), yet suffered great losses due to precise artillery and air assaults. "Don't come here, this isn't Chechnya" he said.

With that in mind, it doesn't matter how much meat Putin sends, this is modern warfare where poorly trained/equipped troops won't be able to change anything. There's a whole-ass torrent of videos documenting the absolute state of the Russian equipment and organization. Everything Putin is doing is extremely haphazard and downright retarded.

So this news megathread is the largely pro-Ukraine place, while the other megathread is largely the containment for the pro-Russia side.
Sad. So much polarization that has no apparent solution in sight, even in places like KF. Sad planet, kinda lame species too.
if it makes you feel better, the other thread posters occasionally come here, call everyone redditors and blue checkmarks and fuck off back to their thread
so some exchange of ideas and arguments does happen

Don't forget trannies, zognazis (yeah, I don't know how you make a combo of those two) etc etc.

It honestly doesn't, I'm rather disgusted of such large parts of humanity allowing the grugg parts of their brains take over, either with savagery and war, or with absolute degeneracy and descent into postmodern, postreality madness.
I survived rather well in the other topic even though I fully support the territorial integrity of Ukraine and all other states recognized by the UN, as it's the only way we can have peace, recognition of tribes, nations and borders. Sure I ate some "downvotes", but who cares.
I tend to favor discussion until some sort of community consensus is reached, at least on important issues, and IMO war avoidance is at the top, even though the Anglos and Burgers might not care due to their ocean isolated piece of land.

If one bunch of people is helping a raped little girl and an another bunch of people are trying to say that the abuser dindu nuffin it is impossible to estabilish a friendly linkt between both groups.

And let we have in mind, that this is in most aspects a world war, not a football play. EU and USA are engaged in this war on ukrainian side. So everyone from EU or USA must have in mind that will be little to any tolerance for any pro-russian propaganda.

Read what happened to GAB organisation in USA just before Pearl Harbor. Any other than pro-ukrainian in any NATO country is just in position of GAB members.

Also about "we should all concern about world peace" - well, smashing down Russia in this moment is best option to take care about future peace. Just like it was best option to go and gangbang Germany before Annexation of Austria, not waiting to the start of war. Many abroad wars of NATO members after secod world war take place due to desire for preempitve actions before potential enemy will be dangerous.

Time for discussion how borders in Europe and former Soviet Union are unrealistic ended in 2014. (and yes, they should be revised in peaceful way, but Russia didn't aim for just collecting of other ruskies - their aim is to dominate most of former East Block). Now it is time for war, not for talkies.

Funny thing is the fact that Putin with his stupid wars ended any option for correcting borders between Russia and Ukrainie or in central Asia. Just like naaazies (the real ones) fucked from table any option for unification between Germany and Austria. Now the only possible outcome of war is smashing down Russia, cutting off all ties between Russia and Ukraine and as a bonus mass gang bang on Armenians in next year.

True, but also simplified.
Russia will exist forever (well at least for our lifetimes, most likely, and if it collapses it would still be catastrophic), and it cannot be ignored, as it has nukes and lots of resources. Also, you have to think through what the consequences of a complete Western victory would be - an enshrining of social liberalism as the only acceptable system of politics.
This would be a disaster for East Europe, where I happen to live.
If you're a normal human, you're engaged in a war on two fronts, one against the sheer anti-human degeneracy pushed by the West, and the other against the imperial savagery and lack of respect for human life from the East.
Any side that would score a decisive will will drag humanity down to the gutter.

I would say Zelenskiy is short enough. Scholz, Macron too. The Romanian Premier or Pres towered over them during a presser. That said Pootin is full of resentment and seems to have gone mental. Pootin was always bad; witness running Red Army Faction terror gangs in West Germany, but, as with Chechnya (evil tho that was), he seemed able to learn from mistakes. Now he doubles down. Mutt and midgetry together might be a bad mix.

Russia will exist forever
Like Germany and Japan, now very nice and weak former ani-west empires, right?

as it has nukes and lots of resources.

Da nuke is something very expensive to maintain. Russia probably have most of its nuclear stockpile wasted years ago. North Korea also have nukes and, how to say that, nearly no one is affraid about them.

And resources in country when such country is weak aren't a good thing. Ask Central America, Zair, China and Iraq how hard is the not be invaded and abused for that raw shit materials when country isn't at least a major power.

Yes, probably something named "Russia" will be in future - extreme weak and ripped from most toys for big boys. Now they just wasting the only valuable resource they have - young mens - in a meat grinder for nothing.

Also, you have to think through what the consequences of a complete Western victory would be - an enshrining of social liberalism as the only acceptable system of politics.

Can you will be kindly enough to point a single negative effect on social-liberalism? I mean: something that in real way make life worse?

Well, You know, I'm living in the decadent EU and... no negative impact of social-liberalism spotted. It is nice to live in a place when everyone can take copepill of choice. You know, one can be a married gay fapping to black actress in Netflix, another one can be a traditional muslim and in 99,9% of time the will not be abused by state. State will in most cases not give a fuck about them until they will act against state in any way. Better option than Russia, when you can be only a degenerated drughead or a fake muslim like Kadyrov.

It will make things even worse in fact, the experienced and professional forces are now pretty much all dead, maimed or otherwise incapacitated and are being replaced with undisciplined, untrained conscripts. I think the Russian military is refusing to cooperate with Putin's idiotic scheme further complicating matters as well.

Hopefully the draftees kill their officers and desert at the first opportunity, it's the moral thing to do and will save their lives.
