She definitely needs a much better solicitor. It requires a court order, specifically a Section 49 Notice, to compel the disclosure of encryption keys, something very unlikely to be granted as part of a bullshit witch-hunt.
Also, even if your shitty solicitor tells you to, never accept a caution. It's not a "slap on the wrist" or a formality or whatever bullshit they tell you to get you to sign it, it's an admission of guilt which goes on your criminal record and will be used to convince the CPS to press real charges against you the next time you're arrested.

It could be that it wasn't discussed beforehand and in interview Caroline just willingly gave them. Even a good solicitor cannot stop that in reality. When you've been arrested for something you've not done (and it's your first time) you do truly believe 'nothing to hide, nothing to fear' and are more willing to give up information that you legally do not have to.

I was told that it was contempt of court and I would be arrested again under a section 42 (I think) if I didn’t give up the passwords.

That is what the solicitor (who was a local one) told me.

Seeing as I have nothing to hide they are welcome to look through my stuff but I have some invaluable family photos I would be sad to lose.

I know people are going to have good old circle jerk over how shit the UK and everyone who lives there is but it's worth mentioning that this shit happens everywhere, including the US. As a result, you need to know both the law and your rights, UK citizens do have right believe it or not.

I would never advocate for having an adversarial relationship with the police, but that doesn't mean you should just simply comply with every request or even order just because some dude in a uniform said so. If the police are going to try to screw with you then make sure they have all the boxes checked and threaten to sue if they just make one mistake.

Or go see the papers. Journos are scum, but rags like the Dailly Mail are more than happy to run an article about this type of shit.

Was it a public defender? I would probably consider hiring a specialised one if possible ASAP.

IANAL, but I believe it's only contempt of court if you refuse to give it up once the judge has ordered you need to. I believe that they can also detain you for longer if you refuse (while they seek this permission) which they do use to attempt to coerce you into complying.

You will likely not lose your devices if you've committed no crime, it will probably take months for them to come back to you. Not being on bail is a good thing.

Modern British police are largely faggots and trannies themselves. They're not just being used, they're willing participants in harassment of normal people. Fat Tony is exactly the kind of deviant criminal they like to protect.

Sounds like your solicitor wanted to get home for dinner. Section 53 makes it an offence to refuse to comply with a Section 49 Notice. It obviously only applies if a Section 49 Notice has actually been issued. Either way, it's not contempt of court. Find a better solicitor.

It’s just extremely scary that you can only voice opinions anonymously in the UK or face Orwellian police coming to your door. Making people fear standing by their opinions is a win for the thought police, it means people are scared and stay in the shadows where they belong. Only the correct and govt approved beliefs are safe to express publicly.

It’s just the extremists swinging the other way. A UK citizen could be arrested for living in a gay relationship (which was fucked up) but now you can be arrested for saying you don’t like gay relationships (also fucked up). The left applauding govt overreach and censorship is disgusting. Yesterday they are ACAB, now they are cheering police harassment and overreach of a family due to someone saying words online about deranged eunuchs that harass her.
