You can sign up for Substack with nothing more than an e-mail and start publishing this very instant. You don't even have to write under your own name or anything. I actually considered starting one to effectively mirror some Kiwi Farms content during the Keffals attack. Nothing Substack does is new, it's basically just a blogging platform that lets people subscribe to be auto e-mailed new posts, with some payment systems allowed. They just smartly targeted a bunch of effectively homeless writers to join the platform and create a network effect while identifying that nobody was really doing an a la carte newsletter/columnist service as places like the NYT were forcing you to subscribe to all writers or none rather than just the ones you like.

I think it's good for Tony to try long form writing though, he does some of his stupidest work when he writes at length instead of in a single tweet.
