I have an extremely strong sense of smell. I wasn't really aware of it until much later in life when I was working as an admin assistant at a high school and the moment I walked into my boss' office I said "something died in here". Since she was the head admin lady, people came into her office all the time, and literally no one noticed the rank, sickly sweet smell of a rotting corpse except me.

I moved the bookcase in the corner aside, and lo and behold, dead rat.

I've since noticed that I'll often pick up on smells other people either don't notice at all, or notice belatedly. It's both a blessing and a curse, depending on the context and the smell.
