Anyway, these attacks are good, from a military point of view. They serve many purposes.
1) They remind a high-on-morale Ukraine that they aren't safe anywhere in the country, something that had been forgotten as Russia refused to strike at important, and well known, railway hubs, repair depots, fuel depots and other points of accumulation of military equipment and personnel.
2) They naturally serve to disrupt logistics in the case of infrastructure like bridges & fuel depots.
3) Further diminish the UAF's stock of armored vehicles and troop transports - not a good thing for a country that is increasingly living off NATO weapons and old Soviet stock from European countries and is now having to turn to countries like Uganda for their stocks of Soviet ammunition and perhaps, parts (eventually tanks...? doubtful since these countries would have to openly show support for Ukraine and wouldn't be able to buy from Russia anymore).
4) Satisfy everyone who has been baying for Ukrainian blood since the Kerch sabotage incident.
5) Put massive pressure on Ukraine's infrastructure and further make them dependent on the West for even basic electricity and water supply, which will complicate, well, literally everything.
These strikes & the mobilization mean Russia is finally wising up to the fact that this war will be long & will be fought as hard as any other: if they want to win they have to stop sparing infrastructure. Causing chaos for the enemy is basic warfare for a reason.
On the topic of jackets: no, they aren't some arcane technology and it's unlikely that there will be any major shortages. Worst case scenario, the mobilized will bring their own dark-colored clothing (it's Russia, no, winter clothing isn't rare for fuck's sake, everyone has it) until production is increased to the point where everyone is well supplied. More likely, they'll turn to the countries playing both sides like China & India and place orders or buy their stock.
Russia was making around 3.3 million jackets & 1.3 million coats & half coats per year in 2021. Due to sanctions, a lot of these factories are probably desperate for these juicy military contracts, if anything.

The far more likely issue is that these things fail to reach some of the men due to corruption and incompetence, as with any military (especially an Eastern Euro one). In the worst, most desperate of scenarios, you could easily hold drives for dark or camo-patterned civilian-owned winter jackets to combat shortages.

I know several people who meet the Ukrainian standards for volunteering and contacted their offices, they never call back.
They don't want foreign volunteers and purposefully make the process annoying to get through. Unless you have a particular skill they need and can't quickly train their own guys for, they'll ignore you.

Unless you somehow have a contact on the inside, you're not getting in with just a deployment or two in the GWOT. They don't want or need foreigners, they can train soldiers faster than they can teach foreigners Ukrainian. They don't have mercenaries, they have people enlisted into the Ukrainian armed forces just like the US allows people with green cards to enlist. There's no money opportunities in fighting for Ukraine, you get paid less than if you just worked at McDonald's.

The first third is about Biden trying to get countries that have been studiously neutral thus far to change to pro-Ukraine, the middle third is about a minority of Republicans disagreeing with aid, there is one sentence about European rulers not wavering, and the rest is about Ukraine kicking Russia's ass lately meaning that Kiev is not interested in negotiationShould have stayed at home.

There is quite literally nothing in the story about Biden desperately trying to stop the disintegration of the current anti-Russian coalition, or that "former allies" are being appealed to. (None of the countries mentioned by name are "former allies")

It was somewhat senseless, in my view. He wasn't there protecting his nation or his family or his faith. He was there because he succumbed to western propaganda and thought protecting the business interests of Ukrainian and American oligarchs would be worth his life.
