Afaik the whole "unemployment" shtick is just the very weird effect/situation that the reduction in jobs is neatly coinciding with a reduction in workforce due to corona/the vax/"long covid". This way, "unemployment/looking for work" numbers dont change and both go un-noticed.
Ironically, this very wholesome chungus economy/ low unemployment is also bad for the companies that remain since replacing workers becomes difficult/impossible,
which means they cant complete orders, even if the materials (and orders themselves) are there. If anything, the current labor market is accelerating the decline.

Their models/programming dont really account for millions of workers going awol after a government mandated medical procedure during a government mandated recession.
I would not be surprised if this is also the reason why they stopped the aggressive push for a 4th-vax.
That would most likely deplete the remaining workforce faster than the companies go out of business, which would be (even more) awkward to explain.

There is another thought process about this shit happening it's that people have realized they can make much more money working under the table without dealing with abusive corporations and paying taxes through the nose or found arrangements that doesn't involve working 50 hrs a week to just cover bills. There were various articles running how millennials zoomers started bunking with old people who have their houses paid off splitting bills and helping them out in exchange for a place to stay or just deciding fuck it going homeless and realizing that they get the same things without working .

Just wanted to thank you for the afternoon read. Gonna get my crackers and cheese, possibly some iced coffee, set up my comfy ass cushion in my truck bed and kill an afternoon reading about how fucked everything is or is not in this beautiful early fall breeze and mild sunshine.
Edit: after read said article and doing some extremely shakey and probably misunderstood calculations, I think the true number of unemployed persons is right around 6% at the moment.

Cross linking:Diesel itself is not going to be the problem, it's fairly easy to make-it's one of the lowest runs of the petroleum refinery stack. The problem, as usual, is the regulations placed on diesel. Those of us who aren't foaming zoomers will remember a time when diesel used to be dirt cheap and smell like shit. This was changed over the last decade as diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) was required to start all diesel engines.
DEF is part urea, which as the name implies, is part of the urine mammals excrete. And again, as usual there's only one country in the world that makes the plurality of DEF components, most importantly urea extracted from pig urine: China. China isn't the best place to be a tourist, or a corporate shill, right now. They're shutting down their pig farms because muh covid, and stopping cargo vessels from coming to port, means that urea from China isn't reaching any truck stops, globally. And just to add to the problem, railways are cutting back shipping, due to shortages, which means DEF can't get to truck stops even if it's available in the warehouse.
All of this can be stopped if countries allow flashing the ECU on some truck fleets (such as trucks owned by farms) to start without checking for DEF, but then the trannies will squeal about climate change, and we'll end up paying $10 for a carrot.

Edit: Oh, and all modern farm equipment also requires DEF. If there's a shortage, it's not just 18 wheelers that can't run. It's combines, tractors, etc. Anything that runs on diesel. It won't just be a complete collapse of our shipping industry, it'll be a massive collapse of our agricultural industry.
That line will hit zero for the US by the end of the year if nothing is done about it. And there is the matter of using or not using DEF, Blackrock is not helping, China isn't helping.
