Used correctly they do. Our winter additional feed bill is under £100 for 600 animals, mostly for fertilizer for the beets we use as the main base and a barrel of molasses. (Sheep love that shit, horses too.) Takes a couple hours for the kids to make a month's worth of pellets, so it's not even that time consuming.
Of course, we've got both grass and a couple hay fields to play with as well, instead of a devastated desert.
