Silent Hill

Slightly off topic, but would anyone else honestly not be surprised to see Rule of Rose get a remake like this?

If SH2 remake is a big enough success, I could see someone looking for other cult classic horror games of the PS2 era to update, maybe even Bloober team themselves would do it as their next project.

Rule of Rose, as brilliant as it is, is a game that actually could use a remake to iron out it's flaws.

He was, yeah. I think it was creature or art design or something.
What a shame we never got to see it, but him and Yamaoka would work wonderfully together, since the latter also designed a lot of the great monsters like Pyramid Head. It's interesting and great to see him stick with Silent Hill ever since the beginning, I'm pretty sure he's the only person who's worked on practically most things in the franchise, even the movies he was Executive Producer iirc, I still listen to his music from the OST's every now and then, what a legend.

The cinematics and environment looks decent but for the first time ever Bloober will have to make actual gameplay around those, that might be though for them.

Over/under bet: there will be 15 cinematic QTEs in the SH2 remake, what do you think? More or less than that?

you may as well ask for a Haunting Ground remake while your at it.

Could not muster myself to finish the SH2 trailer. I played the original, completed it, and was left content with the ending. There's no reason for me to see it replicated.

2 is a victim of its own success. The four intial games are great (I am willingly to say The Room is up with 2 for me) but everyone remembers two or, at least, the twist ending from Youtube top 10s.

SHF I'll keep my eyes on.

Bloober doing the remake could be a trashfire in the making, given their track record (despite me liking Observer). SHf with Ryukishi07 as the main writer has potential, but I don't expect too much of "gameplay" to be honest. The shitposts are fun as fuck to read though, like always. Ascension will be a colossal shitshow and I'm actually hyped for the infinite retardation.
>tfw Konami digs out this series' corpse for a cash grab, since the REmake (excluding 3) turned out really well for Capcom

It's cute, but they will charge out of the ass for this one. Pass.

Parroting the sentiment that F is the only possibly interesting one but I'll hold off on getting too excited until we see some gameplay. I can't wait to see how much of a shit show ascension is though, I didn't even know JJ had a games studio.

I really don't like remasters or remakes, it's good to be able to play old games on new hardware but there is always something lost in the transition between gens. Think about PS1 games, they are very distinct right? But a lot of that uniqueness comes from the PS1's hardware quirks and the same can be said for every console. When you remaster a game you have to ask what elements of the visual make up are important to the game, for PS1 games the polygon and texture instability are flaws but they are also part of what makes them PS1 games. Even clear improvements like higher resolutions can introduce problems by letting you see parts of the scene that you would normally never see.

Remakes are even worse in this regard, sure you don't have to deal with problems with the visual make up thanks to everything being new but it becomes a completely different game. This Silent Hill 2 remake looks good but it'll never take the place of the original for me. I would much rather see a faithful port of the PS2 version of the game even at 420p.

The new Silent Hill F looks far more interesting to me. I'm a sucker for small town horror and Japanese horror, it might be a bit played out but it just scratches that itch for me.

Even if one of these games turns out good, I don’t think they’ll really be on the level of how good the original trilogy was. Even 4 is better than the newer stuff. I might just be considered a team silent purist, but I really just can’t care for silent hill anymore after the franchise was fucked from all sides, especially in 2012.
