I enjoy Maulers videos for the most part. It's okay for second monitor content.

I highlight this part because it's more damning than most of our criticism: when the praise of someone's work is to put them on in the background while they engage in something that actually can hold their attention, that really shows the value for long-form content.

What I can't stand about Mauler and what is starting to be more and more common on his streams is that he talks like a fucking retard. He has all these weird names for his co-hosts and uses weird made up words as jokes I guess? It's not very funny it's just fucking weird. And when he starts talking like that on a new guest like Rekeita it makes me cringe, cause I imagine I didn't talk much to this guy and suddenly he sounds like a mental institute patient.

I feel this one, actually. Part of what killed my interest in his Podcasts was if you blink at the wrong time, 4 inside jokes and nicknames would be formed and incorporated into the "lore."

Technically most of the work its probably how the video clips sync with the spoken text. So yeah, a lot of his work is basically going to waste.
Would have he grown so much if he kept the format of "I talk while I have videogames in the background"? I think it would be very much the same, and it would increase his output as well.

Jay Exci is annoying on Twitter and all, but with every upload he makes me question why he even hangs out with Mauler at all. He's flat out better at reviewing and has a bigger channel. Their audience probably overlaps a bit but I seriously doubt that he benefitted much in terms of views from hanging around Mauler. I find it so weird how he seems to think Mauler is above him when he doesn't need him at all.

Anyway, when I think of MauLer, I think of something Austin McConnell said.

It's actually kinda funny to think about it in reference to Ebert: dude was legit trusted enough to affect box office scores, while MauLer (despite having some of the best viewership in film reviews/rants) can't really do much beyond reflect an audience (and whenever he doesn't represent his audience's views, they make sure he knows).

Totally agree with the Austin guy. I really hate seeing Youtubers who have 0 success outside of YT "giving writing advice". I know it shouldn't be as simple as "People who don't do can't criticize", but there are some YTers who come across as so smug and pretentious when they criticize media it's infuriating.
