Riding on a parent's shoulders seems more like a fatherly thing to do. Like, during a sports game or parade, your dad may put you on his shoulders so you can see the event.
When it comes to unconditional love, his mom already provides it. I would say, if anything, this reflects more on his "daddy issues." Based on what's here and what he's said about his father versus his mother is that his dad's love was too conditional while his mom is overbearing. He talks about how his father is all about sports and shit talks his interests, which explains his hate for all things fitness (and perhaps why he talks about himself so much?)
Trying to make his dad happy may be why he chose to get into politics. It doesn't require any physical skill but it is still highly respected among more traditional men. Someone here mentioned that he talked about looking up to one of his friend's older brothers at the time, which could have been when he started unconsciously looking for a father figure. Whether or not he wants to admit it, that's definitely a part of what he's doing.
If I were to play matchmaker, I would say he'd need a happy inbetween of his parents. A person that is really willing to put pressure on the guy to improve things but won't go nuclear if he fucks up. Maybe set goals and rewards for achieving them? I ain't a parent but he didn't get this bad on his own and more responsibility should be put on the parents. Genuinely, he needs a partner that's basically a third parent or I just don't really see him getting better on his own.

Agreed about overbearing mother / distant father (also the classic parenting dynamic to lead to homosexuality, congrats Nick). I've heard him whine several times how he didn't have a mentor growing up because he and his dad didn't have similar interests, that was the context of him talking about looking up to the older kid who had been the star of model UN before Nick. while we're psychoanalyzing him I think that his medical/physical issues as a kid while his dad valued sports so much, probably was a factor to his overcompensating for his ego by convincing himself he is a genius. Well, Kami nowadays probably ain't, sadly. Based off what's shown in his thread, he is far from that who he was. But, yeah, that would probably be the best type of person, friendship or relationship, for him to be around. A lead by example type but he definitely needs to be put in his place a bit too. Honestly, he is too anxiety ridden to make new friends or develop a relationship outside of his circle, so he's kind of stuck with someone from AF being a launchpad. Likely one of the partial members, so they keep up with things and are actively involved but not brain rotted enough to take it seriously. I can't really think of anyone like that though.
Also, it's funny how multiple times throughout the "date," he shows interest in things like the jacket and cat ears but backtracks. Lends itself to more suggestions that he is possibly projecting onto others things he's not confident enough to do himself. Pretty sad, honestly.
