Police are investigating a matter involving the University of Wisconsin women’s volleyball team after the university said "private photos" that were "never intended to be shared publicly" were being circulated online without the consent of those involved.

The athletics department released a statement late Wednesday confirming that the UW-Madison Police Department is investigating "multiple crimes" after student-athletes contacted them over the photos and video.

"We are aware that private photos and video of UW volleyball student-athletes that were never intended to be shared publicly are being circulated digitally," the statement from the university read.

"The unauthorized sharing is a significant and wrongful invasion of the student-athletes' privacy, including potential violations of university policies and criminal statutes."

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, one image shared by a source shows some members of the team posing with their sports bras lifted after winning the Big Ten title in November 2021.

"UWPD is investigating multiple crimes, including sharing sensitive photos without consent. UWPD is not investigating the volleyball student-athletes for wrongdoing in this matter," the statement continued.

"Our top priority is supporting our student-athletes and we are providing them with the appropriate services and resources."

UWPD Executive Director of Communications Marc Lovicott told Fox News Digital on Thursday that they are "unable to share any additional details" beyond the university's statement, citing an active and open investigation.

According to the report, most of the images have been taken down.

I wouldn't say everything online is public property, It's more like YOU are responsible for your privacy. I can sympathize with them in that this is literally the most embarrassing thing a young woman can go though. But at the same time people need to take their security more seriously. We need to have opsec classes starting in middle school or something because several DECADES of telling people "Everything stays forever on the Internet" is clearly not working.

I don't know, I believe someone uploaded all the content to the cloud and someone got access to it so they leaked it on 4Chan. I seriously doubt one of those girl intentionally share it. More likely they took pics and videos of them, enabled auto cloud storage and well, somebody else had access to it.

Also, most of them are being celebratory hoes.... nothing really sexual. I don't think this can be qualified as revenge porn. I don't really see a crime here.
