Specifically the argument against crypto is that it wastes too much electricity for each transaction and thus using crypto is literally tantamount to murdering people until they die. This despite the fact that when you look at it there are several other countries that beat all crypto transactions in terms of CO2 output. Left-wingers are fine with cracking down on crypto because they simply either don't care that the government and private companies gets complete arbitrary control over their finances or don't see the connection.
The main advocates for crypto are right wing, anti-government or capitalist "get rich quick" types, meaning that the left must oppose it because the people they don't like like it. The fact that it also pollutes is just an easy way to justify ragging on it. If I had to guess why Just Stop uses crypto, it's probably because setting up a Paypal or Cashapp for essentially an organized crime gang would be difficult. The fact that they need donations at all when they're backed by an oil tycoon is a bit strange actually.
Jesus christ this is the most lolcow organization ever. Can't they just make ads like the rest of the world. Or tour schools? Instead of attempting to destroy Van Gogh and firing fireworks?
I agree, they are a lolcow organization acting like pissy teenagers. Their goals are completely unattainable lol. I can't remember the details, but I think some of these retards held up traffic somewhere in England and a guy in an ambulance died because they couldn't get to the hospital in time.
Hopefully just stop oil turns into a suicide cult.
This thread should be expanded to all the climate cults that were created in the wake of the Greta/Extinction Rebellion fad of three or four years ago.

Agreed, it's pointless focusing on just one when there's about 10 different movements all obviously linked to each other due to their similar methods and messages. There's also the thread in Community Watch that I suggest this may be either merged with, or co-operate with; with that one as a Megathread for news, perhaps.
If you were going to reformat this thread, pretty much any British or international group fronted by or associated with Porritt should be included, which comprises the likes of Forum for the Future, Friends of the Earth and UNED UK, and he honestly could be considered as a lolcow in his own right (he's big on depopulation and even praised China's one-child policy).
Technically that was End UK Private Jets UK, which admittedly is basically the same thing with a different coat of paint. They're also the ones who poured a bottle of shit and piss over a memorial to Captain Sir Tom Moore for..... reasons.
Just Stop Oil protestors caused motorists to erupt in anger at the police as they refused to remove the climate change activists blocking access to the A4 at Barons Court.

Every single time
You can always tell who they are by the kinds of schools they went to. Don't get me wrong, you could go to like a catholic school and be normie middle class as long as you're getting financial aid or you have a wealthy child-free aunt or something. But these people always come from Little Lord Fauntleroy's academy attended alongside literal elites
I was approached by some Friends of the Earth fundraisers on the street a while back. Said I couldn't support them because of their stance against Nuclear Power. The guy said: "But what do you do about the waste?" like it was some show-stopper winning argument. I said "bury it." and the guy's face was just shock. Then he started laughing and just repeating what I said "Bury it! Bury it!"
I wanted my lunch so I walked on. But his incredulity at the idea was not in any way a considered response. It was just conditioned rejection.
I disagree about merging this thread with others and including similar movements.
These lulzy fucks and the big money funding them deserve their own standalone thread. It would be a tragedy for this to get lost in one big environmental megatard megathread.
Anyone on the Internet interested in them should be able to easily find a compendium of their bullshit.

The Fireworks were being shot by kids trying to hit a Just Stop Oil protestor who, for whatever reason, scaled the QE2 bridge and was camping at the top. He was in a hammock and if hit or spooked would've fallen to his rightful death.

I don't agree that this thread should be merged with foreign movements, however, this group, Extinction Rebellion, Insulate Britain etc. are all ran and inhabited by the same group of people so are basically interchangeable. I guess they change their name every few months to stir up new controversy because it create the illusion that they're movement is bigger than it really is.
It's just a grift unless they start quoting uncle Ted and sending mail bombs to key figures. Whiny faggots resorting to petty vandalism are to be despised.
Despite my joke, I haven't seen enough info to say whether or not Just Stop are plants or not. Just because the money comes from the heiress of an oil company doesn't necessarily mean it's a sham, especially since this link was found out pretty damn quickly by a multitude of people. So either Aileen is an idiot who doesn't know to cover her tracks, or doesn't care because she has nothing to hide.
I thought maybe it was a double bluff of sorts.
Eileen publicly funds and becomes the face of an international grant with a good reputation for being against climate change who in turn fund a bunch of groups who make all climate change protest groups look stupid, swaying public opinion that any big oil detractors are loonies.
Yes and this is really fucking stupid for more ways than one.
It was reckless, they did it under a safety car so it was entirely untelevised and they seem pretty ignorant to the fact that F1, and pretty much all forms of motorsport, is used by car manufactures to as a means to expense and develop safety and fuel efficient technology which is later applied to their consumer vehicles.
For example, Prodrive have developed and ran entire rallies on a type of sustainable fuel they have created which would not have happened had they there not been a practical application for it in rallying. This is genuine progress which has a real world application from an industry they are actively trying to stop.

There are. The reason old reactors back in the day were so wasteful was deliberate policy - govts. wanted plutonium as output for use in nuclear weapons. Modern fast-breeder reactors can re-use waste. Very efficient. And there are Thorium reactors which iirc, are even better still.
There is still waste. But so what - if you can run the entire country for a year and have to set aside an area the size of a few football fields for some decades, that's a pretty good trade off.

You could have also said "recycle it" like the French do when they reprocess spent fuel into MOX fuel.
The hysteria surrounding spent nuclear fuel is basically a form of whataboutism as there has been means of dealing with spent fuel for decades. However, the same people that complain about disposing of spent fuel are also the same people that automatically reject any form of spent fuel disposal or reprocessing out of hand.
Originally, when light water reactors (LWRs) first came online in the 1960's their low fuel utilization rate of around 10% was not considered an issue as it was assumed back then that the spent fuel rods would be reprocessed in a closed nuclear fuel cycle.
They weren't aware that there was a safety car in the first place. Rolling chicane Zhou Guanyu and egotistical prick George Russell collided on the first corner, bringing out the red flag. It was their full, conscious intent to storm the track as the cars were running at full speed, and had that earlier incident not occurred, it's very likely we could have had the worst fatal accident in F1 (or motor racing, period) since the 1955 Le Mans disaster, which Zhou almost caused in the stands had his car not caught the gravel trap.
Technically, no he's not, but also possibly yes. The fag that set his arm on fire - Kai Bartlett - was acting as part of the "End UK Private Jets" group, which is...a fucking rabbit hole that probably deserves a mention, and might as well drop it here. But to start, in case anyone wants to hear the explanation of Kai's very rational decision to light his arm on fire to protest jets, here:
As for the rabbit hole, if anyone cares:
I ended up doing a little digging on the group a few weeks ago and from what I can tell, End Uk Private Jets is just a very new branch off of Just Stop Oil. Not sure if it's only spiritually or an "official" thing, but they're definitely related and somehow more pretentious. At the very least they're big fans of Just Stop Oil, as they retweeted [A] the soup toss vid in support. And right now, the End UK Private Jets people are getting about as much hot press as Just Stop Oil for their equally retarded stunts. Most recent one that pissed off literally all of England was one of their members desecrating a memorial to Sir Tom Moore by throwing a jug of shit and piss all over it [A], because "Every time a private jet takes off, it pours a bucket of shit and blood onto everything that Captain Tom stood for."
(Just so you know, Kai insists on saying that this girl only "allegedly" did this.)
Again, I didn't dig too deep into their history and I only really looked 'em up after the shit flinging story made all the headlines (mostly because I legitimately could not tell if the girl was a troon or not). But with how little information there is about the group in general and their specific brand of "activism" I would almost bet real money that they're at the very least funded by the same people as Just Stop, if not just all-around organized/operated by the same crowd. Can't say for sure if they're actually founded by ol' Roger though, because there doesn't seem to be any information on their founders or any leading members. Only names I could find are Kai Bartlett and Maddie Budd, and it's hard to tell just what their positions are. Kai refers to himself as a spokesperson, but some news outlets credit him as the overall leader. Maddie is the only other name on all of their socials, but in recent interviews with her father he makes it sound like the group's got a lot more people behind it than just one rich twiggy twink.
Their official website is ass. It's more bare bones than a placeholder, only consists of a Twitter feed, times for their "Live Interactive Zoom" meetings, and advertising other "End Private Jets" groups to join - as well as an option to "create your own group" - but nothing else. They have no founders list, no actual mission statement, no mention of sponsors or affiliates, and no list of other orgs to support. Hell, the only "crowdfunding" they've got is a campaign to raise £500 [A] on Chuffed.org of all places.
Sure, it might just be a copycat group using daddy's money or something to be like their hero Roger, but I'd say the similarities between them and Just Stop Oil warrants a collective post. Everything about the group just smacks of Hallam & Co.'s M.O.: be the absolute worst shithead as possible to "send a message" about a completely unrelated cause, therefore any criticism means the critic doesn't care about the cause.
Anyway, they probably won't last over a year, but just in case they do get anywhere someday:
I remember years back reading the articles about the Heathrow drone incident as it was happening. Strange to think of how much stupid shit this guy has gone on to influence, but at the same time its almost totally predictable. It was all about attention-seeking from the very beginning.
