Influenza never would have shown up again after the first time it went through a population, why do you think the flu vaccine is changed every single year and still doesn't work all that great? There is a new Netflix show called "The Watcher" that just came out and is based on a real event. Basically a couple buys a house and starts getting weird letters in the mailbox about someone spying on them. They think it's someone in the neighborhood, but no one has ever discovered who it was, and they end up having an almost impossible time trying to sell the house to get relief. A lot of people still think it was a self-hoax because the letters make it seem like the Watcher had an insane obsession with the house itself, but no other owners ever got anything like that and still have not even after the couple sold it. It's a funny little true crime story.

So Zack is trying to figure out how he would have "caught" the Watcher. His premise is flawed because iirc they only ever received three letters total, and did not actually move in, so it's not like they had an opportunity to try to catch them. And also they totally did it to themselves.
