For those wondering "what was the school board thinking", a post made and later deleted by Neph on SS seems to confirm that Fire wasn't a direct hire.

They worked a miserable job under a guy who fired him from a previous teaching job in Jacksonville. I supported Fire until they got a job working as a tutor in Chicago. I can't say which company hired them, but they have access the children all day. Children who would mock them to the point where Fire came home and cried about the mean teenagers to me.
