One would think so but not on Chrysler vehicles. They will not run without a battery connected in-circuit. In my case the battery was fairly new and defective in a way that the car saw no battery at all. I know fuck-all about cars but where I was working had a full mechanic shop that luckily helped me out and explained what was happening when it immediately shut off when the jumper cables were disconnected. They had to drive me to the Autozone.
If your car dies when you disconnect the battery or the external source, then you have a bad alternator, a bad alternator can't recharge the battery, which causes the battery to spend it's charge, so it might initially look like its a battery problem.
Mmm, I didn't know they made them like that, that is complete bullshit, but it might be to protect some of the electronics in the vehicle (though that should be the job of the fuses), as the battery also helps in smoothing out the voltage, running the alternator by itself can cause some spikes in the system.

Or you have a Chrysler (Jeep, specifically in my case). To be clear, I don't mean a low battery that will still take a charge from the alternator, I'm talking about a dead battery that isn't seen by a charger or no battery at all. Some cars can not run with no battery. I'm pretty old and never knew that.
They can get wet from condensation when cars only do short journeys.
