Nexpo/YT Horror Channels - Do they all suck

Internet Investigator's Patreon is STILL down which might mean she's screwed, I'm wondering if there's more we're not being told because I cannot imagine a script would be flagged for "glorifying violence" and the account just full on deactivated and under review. She's already selling memberships on Youtube for a higher price rather than try to find another platform.

EDIT: SPOKE TOO SOON! He ended it with 20-30 minutes of completely incomprehensible whisper talking from the pedo. I dunno if he had subtitles, but that kinda shit is abhorrent content in such long stretches even if you can read what he's saying.
The footage came pre subtitled from the youtube video he cited as the source of that segment. That part ruined the video for me, all he had to do was take the most salient clips from what the pedo guy was saying and summarize the rest. The video doesn't need 30 minutes of uncommentated footage to establish the amount of mental gymnastics he was doing to justify raping and murdering a little girl.

Compared to the previous one that had a one-hour chunk of minimally edited interrogation footage this one was definitely edited better. And including that footage in to show how fucking insane this guy was and how disgusting it was to hear him justify killing her added to the video. It was overall a good choice.
But with how long it went on I think he could have gotten by with cutting about half of it out. Especially since the dude talked in circles and repeated himself a lot for emphasis. For example, the part where he rants about the DSM and mental illness for like 10 minutes straight. We get it, he's badly attempting to 'learn' to be mentally ill and get an insanity plea. Wild shit and it shows how manipulative the dude is but show 2 minutes of it and move on.

I mean, it can vary, I'm almost through with Dreading's Cherish Perrywinkle video, that one has much briefer audio content(that does a great job pointing out how stupid Cherish's Mom is).

JCS does interesting insight into the technique of interrogation. Matt Orchard and a little of that with good humor, and in general is amazing at presenting the narrative. Explore With Us is FOIAing or some other method to dig up interrogations that weren't previously public, and has good pacing between interrogation footage and telling the events of the crime.
The Cherish video was awful. I am interested in the crime and particularly Cherish's mouthbreating retard of a mom, but goddamn that final part with the dude whispering random shit was impossible to get through. 'This is a difficult subject' is not an excuse not to do basic editing work. Also, he chose to do true crime videos. Child abuse is sadly par for the course.

I liked JCS except for the one video about the dude who killed his family because he was in love with an e-whore. The subject was interesting but the video tried too hard to demonize the whore for staying out of it, as if the dude's actions were somehow her fault. I don't like e-whores but even I know none of that was her doing and them pretending otherwise was shitty.

I did wonder how Explore With Us got their videos. The body language fixation they have is idiotic but I enjoy the glimpse into actual new material.

Yeah I hadn't gotten to that point yet, I pretty much fast forwarded through all of it listening to it as a podcast. It perfectly emphasizes my criticism of Dreading as a channel, he gets good material, he can do good production, but either he's lazy or he thinks it's good content, and he pads out some of his videos.

They say it's been analyzed by Criminal Psychologists and retired FBI/Police interrogators. I know nothing about the guy, but if he really does have retired LEO advising him, they could know the process to get public release of court evidence.

His aloof cringey sense of humour works with his overall soy appearance. He's not trying to be something he's not and I appreciate that.

Conversely, The Misery Machine video recommended earlier has two of the most punchable hosts with their exaggerated inflections and unnecessary camera presence.
Honestly I agree and wish they had stuck to staying off camera like in earlier videos.

I normally don't care for Nexpo that much (don't dislike him just not a fan) but I liked his video on the AI art I thought it was cool and interesting. The way he presented that artist's "discovery" of the weird AI art entity was really good, it definitely stood out from your run of the mill youtube horror stuff. A lot of people thought it was some new creepypasta or completely made up or something but if you use that search term there you do actually tend to get that same weird looking woman in your pieces

I thought it was really interesting how the AI thinks that particular term/face belongs alongside scenes of obvious violence and leans hard into disturbing renditions. AI art does horror really well I think

Of course that thing became popular and there are droves of redditors making fan art of the "character", dressing up for halloween as it and creating "lore" 🤮 so it didn't last long before becoming another one of those things where you see them and think, hey thats neat, and then reddit finds out about it and ruins it for you

Right? I would prefer he just summarize the interrogation. Interrogation videos are so fucking boring.
I normally agree, but every once in awhile you get one that you can't help but watch in full, like that one with the really cringe "I'm going to unleash my bipolar" guy that Explore With Us did who thinks he's a fucking mastermind. Just watching him cringily talk into the security cam when detectives leave, so confident he's pulling one over on them, is a fucking hoot.

Russell William's interrogation is also a great watch. Not as amusing as seeing insane jackasses like 'My Bipolar' guy, but as an example of interrogation techniques at work.

I really enjoy this sort of content... when it's done right. Unfortunately, I do find that with all of the good channels, you do inevitably get a lot of channels that just chase trends and you'll end up seeing some creepy topics covered by ten similar YouTubers. And then, as mentioned in the OP, you get people like Nexpo or ReignBot sometimes uploading annoying drama content.

That's why I can be pretty reluctant to subscribe to other channels. I'm also not a big fan of channels that largely focus on creepypasta, hauntings, and other fictional content.

In terms of worthwhile discoveries, there's one fairly unpopular YouTuber called KyotoRobato. His videos are about cases in Japan that (in most cases) hadn't been handled by other YouTubers beforehand. He's fluent in Japanese and can therefore translate any research.

Think I'm gonna check out some of the recommendations here.

I'd consider those the top tier of the genre(though the JCS team has gone lolcow and decided they aren't going to make content is they can't make them kind of money kid friendly content makes with the same views)

Dreading is upper middle tier, he seems more interested in getting multiple long form videos out than more polished ones, but I think he could be as good as Explore With Us.

To me, EWU is too much of that youtube-friendly faggot bullshit. Also, most of the videos are way too long and rely too much on the JCS formula without understanding it at all. They have a few good videos, but they're sparse. I don't even dare to watch the newer stuff because I can only imagine how dull it'll be.

I wish we had more channels like HorrorStories, that don't do over-the-top bullshit and don't care about youtube sensibilities, either. However, as sanitized and cucked as the site is now, I doubt that'll ever happen.

It's not a platform unless you can get paypig money. Gotta get them simp bucks to make it worthwhile. Making videos out of pleasure and passion for your topics?

"Pffff no, fuck that, I want the money"
To be fair, it's easier to dedicate a lot of time to a passion project when it brings in some income too.
People who do YT content purely because they want to get rich off it can go fuck themselves, but I'm not gonna shit on people who are just asking for some cash to have more time and resources to focus on something they'd do anyway, especially when their videos require a fair bit of work or money to produce.

And Patreon is in principle absolutely preferable over the constant sponsor shilling, even though at this point the sponsor block addon thankfully makes those disappear for me on most larger channels. I don't like that it's more and more becoming a premium zone where YTers paywall content rather than a pure patronage site, but it's still a step up from any monetization strategy based on the ad industrial complex.
