Anime News Network (ANN), Christopher Macdonald & Co. - "Unbiased" Reporting on All Things Anime Related By Snobbish Quebec-Based Web Company. Acquired by Kadokawa.

Even Clownfish TV (who Mike Toole called Nazis) talked about it, and they also came to the same conclusion ANN's crew is coping. Holy cow, the karma is absolutely welcome. Guess if it wasn't gonna be Covid, Zac would've drank himself to death over losing his job (if you could call it that).

Also the real irony? ANN's now owned by the same people who got rich off of the same problematic shows they decried against. Lol.
They admitted one "senior executive" was leaving. So who was it? lol

Kadokawa has surpassed Bandai Namco's investment by acquiring ANN. Chris Macdonald went ahead and wrote an article stating they'll "remain unchanged and that ANN maintains its editorial integrity and independence."

There is some skepticism in the forums, mentioning biased reviews and not reporting on any Kadokawa scandals as they've previously done in the past. If this stops retarded articles such as Rebecca Silverman's Tokyo Mew Mew New review and their poor excuses that pass as game reviews in the future, then that's a good sign.

Here's Kadokawa's Press Release:
I've also updated the OP.
If Chris Macdonald and Lynzee Loveridge aren't given the axe in due time, then this doesn't change anything.
Still, I'm shocked that a JAPANESE company bought ANN.

Unfortunately, it's not Lynzee.

I'm sure some retards have a big head over this right now, but they unloaded a lemon onto people who probably do not have a strong tolerance for failure, let alone failure by gaijin overseas. Anything fucking stupid these people do can also now be re-directed at Kadokawa by the fanbase, which they should absolutely do constantly. Good luck with your promise to continue being intolerable cunty bitches. I'm sure that will work out well for you in the future. lol

God dammit, I got no notifications for this thread, but I just found out about this.
I feel just so scared and bad...for Kadokawa.
I mean, god knows how much they squandered on this purchase especially when the yen is so weak.
On the bright side, this means ANN is definitely on a timer now.
It truly is only a matter of when they get shut down, I'll be ready with the bubbly when that day comes.😈

If Kadokawa can somehow fire people at ANN and totally reconfigure the website by removing the toxic aspects of what makes that site infamous, then it will be interesting to see how quickly ANN will not be just another version of Crunchyroll, but without the Sony-like corporations backing them.

Anime News Network to be renamed to Anime Encylopedia, since that's the only good thing about the site.

ANN has been always vehemently anti Light novels, which is the primary otaku product Kadokawa sells.

they are not happy the publisher that owns Degenki diaoh now owns them.

theyre coping.

People are raising good questions:
ANN isnt valuable at all. all they offer other sites have in much more quality and quantity:
-User data->MAL has better user data with user feedback through rating and reviews system, which ANN lacks because they only offer their circlejerk reviews.
-traffic data->MAL offers this too, and has more traffic. thats a fact
-Promotion->ANN has no reach power, theyre better off continue paying the ppl from trash taste, that have a larger reach.
So, why kadokawa bother to buy them?
The answer only makes sense if u take their journo work out of the equation: they will become just a pamphlet for isekais.
there's virtually no other option that using their brand for promotion

Oh, the sweet irony. being owned by the creators of those shitty otaku literature u used to mock

Lol MAL fucked their review system so hard that it's skewed to only the "first come, first served" crowd in terms of what reviews are on top and the like. Rating system still helps reflect reception, but it's so Western-bias as there's only a fraction of users who are actually Japanese. And it's rare for older users to still be around, so newcomer-bias means newer anime get more popular and more high scores quicker than the more-established anime. Also the userbase is shitty, although it's not a circlejerk like ANN's is.

In general, Western-run anime/manga databases aren't exactly reliable, though MAL is (somehow) more user-friendly. I hear all the time AniDB is much better, but I can barely navigate the site, which maybe that's on me for not figuring out how to use its tag system.

Still, anything's better than ANN's shambling corpse at this point. At least I haven't heard of other web admins on the other anime database sites being sexual creeps and stalkers.

Well, I don't know the names of the people behind MAL and AniDB, so that by default gives them something over ANN, a website that was founded, ran, edited, etc. by sociopath attention whores to the point the founder, Sevakis, literally sits on Twitter and brags "DO YOU KNOW I LIKE SUCKING PENISES AND I'M A GUY???" while his followers clap like trained seals.

This attitude of self-importance by gatekeeping gaijin was then reflected in all aspects of the wesite itself. It couldn't just be about anime news, it had to be about how the anime you like is morally BAD and it should be like artsy fartsy shit that wouldn't embarass le srs film critics like Zac and other retards. Then of course all the names behind the website spent almost two decades arguing with people on a shitty message board, banning dissent and trying to embarrass regular anime fans who got too uppity to just push it in everyone's face how important these fags think they are.

So yeah, good luck with an actual Japanese company tolerating that kind of shit for very long. Personally, I think you should give AniDB another shot. The only thing that's not on there are gaijin DVD credits, but I feel like those should be pushed off to another website anyways because making those kinds of people feel like they are as important as the actual fucking creators and animators is part of the problem we have right now imo.

Edit: Read somewhere that wokester Mike Toole was behind something called "Hentai Jump." It appears to have been some kind of hentai website with reviews and forums. Does anyone know anymore about this? I found an archive for a review he did, but I don't know if I'm allowed to post hentai links here.

I would use AniDB but the fact that they put Chinese and Korean animation in their database as well kinda makes my blood boil. Yeah, I know that's a stupid reason.

yeah but my point is that there's more valuable websites than ANN that have what kadokawa ma want.
the only asset kadokawa wants from ANN is their name, brand.
probably they want a magazine for LNs shilling.
but be prepared for ANN to change a lot regarding anime. most popular LN nowadays is a kadokawa sneaker bunko romcom that has plenty of sexual scenes and the classic imouto that wants her brother's d.
theyr WILL have to shill that. its their flagship title and even kadokawa CEO praised the novel personally.

grab popcorn.
