Please stop ranting about Elliot being a diversity hire. He joined google at about the same time I did. In those days there were no diversity hires at all or even a diversity policy. You were hired on technical merit, nothing else. (Diversity hiring started at least 5 years later, or more).
You could be bat shit crazy and be hired. As long as you passe the techincal bar.
Elliot has seriously good technical skills or else he would not have been hired in 2007/2008.
Do not conflate your dislike with the person with the skill of the person.

That said, he IS an incredibly toxic and disruptive person to have on any team. He is stubborn and vindictive. If you have robust discussions with him he will take it as a personal insult and go after you.
Do I know Elliot? Not really. Have I met Elliot? Many times in engineering meetings. I did not report to him, neither did he report to me. We belonged to two completely different reporting structures That said we did meet in technical meetings quite some times. (I would feel offended if you would show him a picture of me and he would not immediately be able to tell you my name. But no, we did not work together.)

Elliots problem is not his technical skills, he is skilled, that is not in doubt. The problem is his personality. Anything, the slightest issue, and he takes it as a personal attack. He also seems to feel like it is his job to correct any grievances that anyone ever have had in the workplace. With maximum force and maximum hostility and zero forgiveness or allowance to correct.
None of this have even anything to do with him being trans. Him being trans is the least of the issues with him in a workplace.
His problem is not knowing when to back off. You can have technical discussions and disagreements but eventually you really need to make a decision, be it right or wrong, but you have to make a decision on the path forward. Elliot can not deal with that. If he thinks it is the wrong decision, he will refuse it and protest and work against it. He will make it his life goal to work against what you agreed on and try to undermine it.
There is nothing like normal people "ok, we made a decision, I didn't like it but here we are and now we all have to work towards the agreed goal". No, Elliot is 100% my way or the highway and if you disagree I will try to destroy you.

In one sense it is really sad. A talent like that just going to waste because of insecurity and mental illness.


Would I hire him to my tiny contracting stint? No. He is sure skilled enough but I would not want him because it would just be drama after drama.
Whoever the incompetent HR person who signed off on his hire was, they should have their genitals subjected to electric shock thrice daily and never be allowed to work in HR ever again.

I used to be an HR person working with hiring managers for extremely high-skilled engineering positions, and I knew damn well that my number one job was making sure that there would be a good culture fit and that the person being interviewed didn't present any red flags that indicated that they would be disruptive in the workplace or otherwise impede the functioning of the team as a cohesive whole.

And to think that coming out of grad school Google was in my top 3 choice employers. Obviously they aren't very selective about who they hire into HR, if their HR staff wasn't able to immediately push back and say, "Hiring this person would be a huge mistake".

I would imagine that eventually some investors just say "I don't care who is right or who is wrong, just WHY is the CTO of the company going mental and causing a shitstorm on twitter instead of working on the product that I invested money in them to build?"

They want results, not drama. And it does not matter if you are justified or not. They do not want to be involved in drama because there are never any winners. Everyone loses when there is this amount of drama.
Investors won't say much, because troon privilege is real. Have you seen how much they have LGBTQIAHIV+ staff? Anything anyone gonna say against them can be misconstrued as against "modern values". Besides, LFJ is field CTO, he has a talking job despite having T for technology in position title, so it's fair to say he's not working on a product, but rather selling it

All these people "moving to Mastodon" etc are totally disingenuous. They have no intention of doing that. It's just about creating negative stories about Elon Musk for the media to report on. After the media moves on to the next story they'll all be back on Twitter. Over-socialised babies.

Even if all troons moved to Mastodon in one big go, they'd still be back on Twitter because moving to Mastodon would hinder their ability to groom children and vunerable autists. Their reach would be non-existant outside their little bubble.

You'd think they'd definitely tell him to stop posting constantly about it even if they don't care that he's doing it. His position seems a little too public facing to be like "oh, so what if he's posting about an insane obsession, our partners will just see that he's dedicated" but maybe they don't expect him to actually do his sinecure job either.
You would think so. And as a field CTO he is the face of the company. His job is to market the company and products.
His twitter should be filled with "cool new features" "customer success story" "how this will help your company" etc.

But instead existing and future customers would go to his twitter and all they see is some insane crusade.
It is insane. And he closes down his twitter. It is insane, your twitter is how you reach out to the market, to your customers, how you get potential customers interested in your product, to build hype. That is your job. Not to get your employer associated with some insane crusade.
