I am not a 4-star armchair general, but I play one on TV: The Ukrainian soldiers will be out of the range of Russia's artillery. Russia doesn't have enough long range missiles or drones to make even a dent in the Ukrainian military.

This all seems quite negative for Russia to me. Though I'd love it if this was the beginning of a lasting peaceful division of the territories, I have doubts.

Thing is, why the fuck would Ukraine or the West be in a hurry to get russia to negotiate some compromise?

Lets consider the facts at hand for both Ukraine and the West in general

For Ukraine russia has....

• caused insane amounts of infrastructure and economic damage alongside mass theft, which will require a shitload of money to unfuck, which everyone already agrees should be russian money
• once again failed to implement even the most basic fucking discipline amongst its retard army and thus caused them to once again go on a rape/murder/torture/mutilation spree against civilians in occupied areas, with them with the end results (and in some cases footage of the crimes in progress) alongside mass abduction and bombing civilian infrastructure solely to cause long term misery to non-combatants and to pretend they are winning at home, which will make it effective political and possibly literal suicide for the Ukrainian government to allow them to keep any of the land or people they have stolen
• repeatedly and egregiously gone back on previous agreements and treaties it has signed with Ukraine and thus demonstrated it to be terminally unreliable in any negotiations since they have proven they will betray them the moment they think they can get away with it, which makes any idea of negotiations that much more laughable
• demonstrated how much it utterly fucking sucks at war and how weak it is, and how little it has left to threaten ukraine with beyond committing nuclear murder-suicide, which means Ukraine legit has a chance to permanently get russia to fuck off out its affairs going forwards

And for the west, russia has....

• spent over a century actively and intentionally trying to screw western europe, the US, and their allies over due to superpower delusions, which means they finally have a chance to permanently remove this geopolitical pimple from their taint
• previously and repeatedly done all of the above to eastern europe in living memory, which means they are going to be even more fanatical than western europe and the US in making sure russia gets buck broken one way or another
• repeatedly tried to use energy blackmail to coerce european politicians and population, which means its more tempting than ever to cut this thread and be free from this autism going forwards
• repeatedly failed to live up to the lowest expectations of diplomacy and international relations, which makes it about as hard for the west to trust any negotiation compromise wth them as Ukraine
• failed to manifest the "MUHWINTERISCOMING" apocalypse into reality, with a warm winter predicted across the board and gas storage tanks in europe effectively full to capacity
• given the west an easy and relatively cheap way to possibly permanently break russia as a geopolitical annoyance, and without any boots on ground or serious risk of nuclear exchange, all by training the ukrainian military to NATO standard and offloading obsolete gear en-masse from their armories and warehouses
• given every western politician and leader the perfect "LOOK HOW BADASS AND HEROIC I AM GUIZ!" photo-op and get-out-of-criticism-free card in order to distract from their own fuckups and ineptitude

Or to put in brief, for Ukraine bleeding and breaking russia until they are fully routed from its territory is of existential importance both for the countrys future and its leadership, and for the West its well worth the temporary economic headache to pop this long term geopolitical cyst forever going forwards.

Morally, amorally, idealistically, cynically, selflessly, selfishly, ideologically, pragmatically......there is literally every fucking reason Ukraine and friends have to keep hammering away at russia indefinitely and not giving an inch to their desire to GTFO with some face saving participation trophy
