Jay Leno is in stable condition, but suffered "serious burns" following a gasoline fire.

After news of his medical emergency made headlines on Monday, Leno issued a statement to Variety: "I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am OK. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet."
The Grossman Burn Center, where Leno is being treated for burns to his face and hands, confirmed the accident happened in his garage. The comedian "is in good humor and is touched by all the inquiries into his condition," according to a statement from the burn care facility.

People reported the 72-year-old talk show host had to cancel an appearance at The Financial Brand's Forum in Las Vegas due to a health issue. He was set to perform a private comedy performance on Sunday night.

"His family was not able to provide us very many details, but there was a very serious medical emergency that is preventing Jay from traveling," an email to attendees purportedly stated. "All we know is that he is alive, so our prayers go out to him and his family tonight."

Yahoo Entertainment reached out to a rep for Leno, but did not immediately receive a response.
TMZ reported the accident occurred in the L.A. garage where Leno stores his cars as one erupted into flames without warning. Leno, host of Jay Leno's Garage, has a legendary car collection.

The former late night host has previously spoken out about health issues. In 2019, he opened up to People out about battling high cholesterol in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of routine check-ups and eating healthy.

I half expected to hear he ended up fried like anne heche from the title

Even with a fire extinguisher close by, if your face is up in the area of whatever pointlessly bursts into flames, it won't save you from injury. Not enough details to be certain what happened. Many of the kinds of vehicles he collects were not designed with the safety of service crew in mind. That evolved over many decades of actuarial data, legislation, and advocacy.

I may be just a plebe but when I started seriously working around fuel lines I bought a fire extinguisher. This boomer is a multi-millionaire wtf is his problem?

If you've never seen Jay's garage, don't expect something attached to some house in the burbs. His garage is like an airport hanger or three. State of the art, a lot of very old, very expensive cars. He has fire extinguishers. Wouldn't be shocked if he owns a working fire engine with the proper tank and staff trained to use the hose.

He owns several fully functional fire trucks including a steam powered one. A fire truck isn't much good in a flashover, which this probably was. Flashovers burn themselves out so quickly, by the time anyone realizes what is happening it's all over but the screaming.

My point was, his place is going to be extremely safe. So the injury isn't about safety, it's about what you just mentioned, a sudden burst of flames that are gone before the extinguishers can come out.

You know what's fun? Filling plastic bottles with gas rolling them up in cardboard and putting them into a big bonfire then waiting for the pressure to build up and shoot the lid off the bottle in a burst of flaming gasoline.

I've dealt with fires inside the engine compartment while working in one, more than once, and I didn't catch fire or get burned. Safety gear was invented for a reason.
