I suspect they both have a list of problems. I suspect that neither of them work and both hang around the house too much. There is also obvious alcoholism at least in Nick's case. I watch him and see a guy shrinking and getting more sweaty. They also live in a really tiny hick town in the middle of nowhere which leads to more isolation and boredom. There are also both at an age where some people tend to go off the deep end.I'm beginning to think his wife is the problem and he is doing this dumb shit to keep her happy.
As far as home school co-ops go, the ones I'm familiar with usually do shared social activities with the kids, specialized teaching like music classes and certain classes that do specialized teaching. I'm not familiar with home-school co-ops where they do daily teaching of 30 kids. Because thats really more of a private school at that point. They could exist, but I've not seen them.
As far as getting away with things, you can get away with quite alot in a small town. Many people will know, but nobody will talk to each other about it. It just gets used as secret dirt to share within the area. If Nick actually attended an evangelical church (I dont think he does), the public drinking would get him as much heat as the sex stuff. A person can get into real trouble if it somehow becomes a public story - lets say Nick reaches a point where he becomes noticed by journalists up in Minneapolis.
I think his kids are doomed regardless. Homeschooling, parents who don't work, parents who pretend to be one thing in the community while being something very different in private and alot of awful public information about the parents that the kids will eventually discover is usually a bad situation.
He needs to stop drinking and figure out something to do with his life beyond streaming. But him getting into trouble and running to the THOT army for "help" suggests he is going to have to go all the way to rock bottom to work his way out.
