Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Nobody hates Obsidian games, they're far too mediocre to hate.

There is a reason their games consistently rate in the 6-8 range, with 8 or higher usually only being pulled off through fan hype from an association to a license. (Star Wars, Fallout, D&D)

This doesn't mean that Obsidian games can't be fun, but the company isn't and has never produced anything great.
l completely disagree, new vegas is great and extremely replayable compared to the utter garbage that is any modern rpg

My unpopular opinion is that real-time strategy games are boring as fuck to watch.
Every video game is boring to watch. Streamers are boring, competitive players are boring, video reviewers are boring, wacky reaction youtube people are boring. Speed runners are deeply unsettling portraits of the depths to which a fellow human being can sink, but they are also very boring. Video games are only fun to play, and even then, only if you're lucky.

Using the excuse of "From the creators of" is sadly becoming mainstream nowadays.
Back 4 Blood is pretty subpar with L4D & L4D2.
Outer Worlds is subpar against New Vegas.
it works greatly with marketting because newfags to the series and normies (l still hate using that term but l am going to have to use it) think it will be better or even as good as the original game
especially plebbit denizens

Fallout New Vegas had extremely poorly written factions.

It had some good bits, for example I loved dead money but a lot of it was just... I dunno Babies first slightly grey moral choice the game

The Legion is entirely pointless as it's just "these are bad people", they could have done something more interesting were they weren't murdering, enslaving, sexist psychopaths to people who stayed within their laws, treating women as equals due to the shortage in man power that nukes falling would cause and while a totalitarian nation it would also be a very safe and raider free one. You could then explore what happens to a nation like that when it's Lynchpin Caeser is killed.

House and the NCR both had good points what with having to choose between a safe but ultimately untouchable dictator or a bloated, corrupt but free democracy but they're entirely rended pointless by the "I'll do it myself" option having zero downsides
The Legion isn't that - though. They're shown time and time again to be the vastly superior (but numerically smaller) faction.

The Legion territories and governments do not have any of the crime or corruption that the NCR does. It's expressly stated that in Legion controlled territories that crime and raiding are literally non-existent to a point where traders don't even bother to hire security where as the NCR is so hilarious unsafe that merchants are being liquified in broad daylight by the Silver Rush and the Brotherhood of Steel. The fucking Gun Runners have to have a robot sell their merchandise cased inside of a comical bullet-proof glass encasement like it's a 7-11 in the hood.

Women are not equal in the Legion because they have to be baby factories. The Legion is just a band of tribals - they do not have the numbers to match a power like the NCR nor the training, resources, or technology to deal with the Enclave/Brotherhood of Steel. The only option open to them is to create an army just by breeding every woman they have access to and forcing every male child born into the army for generations.

They also (typically) do shitty things but mainly to shitty people - they typically lay traps that you would have to be a shithead to fall into (aka the town that is willing to ambush and capture NCR troops, only to find the Legion capture them too).

The Legion (and New Vegas) are well liked because it isn't just a "big huge bad guy faction" - they're basically a much smaller faction that doesn't want to get stomped out by the larger one. The details of how shitty they have to be to even compete and how they have to fight their battles and wars (though demoralization, subterfuge, espionage, and sabotage) and how they try and manage to fight this giant empire with basically tribal equipment.

Mohammed and Islam more or less.

Even in a nuclear post apocalypse the bad people won't marry and pork nine year olds.
I'd be very hesitant to incorporate sex with subteens in my big-budget fictional IP, no matter how justified by the story, setting, and history. Just look at how upset people get when hentai including 15-16 year olds gets translated. Even Fyodor Dostoyevsky got chewed out by his editor for having a dissolute villain have sex with an underaged girl.
And I'm not saying that revulsion is a bad thing.

I mostly agree. I like the old JonTron style where he turned it into a sketch, and I don't mind reviews, but the typical game stream/playthrough/e-sports is incredibly boring.

The default setting for audio volume (voice/ambient/music/effects etc.) should always be 50%, not 100%. That way you can easily raise any one volume (e.g. radio in GTA) rather than having to lower ALL the other ones to get what you want.

I don't know if it's an unpopular opinion, seems like common sense to me. But developers keep doing it wrong.

I hate how fucking loud games are. When I start a new game I always set the windows volume to 10 or less, because I know my ears will bleed before I have the opportunity to lower the game volume in the settings.

I don't play COD so it's not really my problem or business, but even at the time I felt the hate was excessive, and in hindsight I definitely think Infinite Warrior's backlash was wrong.

People had fatigue from increasingly futuristic COD games and wanted to pivot back to historical (or at least grounded modern-day) settings. BF1 had already become a favorite by choosing a rare setting that was like the exact opposite (super vintage).

But in the end, which was more interesting? Another fucking storming-the-beaches-of-Normandy game, except done with the shitty COD lack of polish or care, or a total war in the solar system game with some strategic elements? I never got around to getting it, and now my PS4 is bricked, but I always had an interest in Infinite Warfare's campaign for when it would go on sale. From what I heard it had thought-out worldbuilding and the David Bowie trailer was brilliant.

I think the game was a victim of when it came out.

I'm not seeing what the people commenting are seeing
it sure is wet, though
That thumbnail highlights an important issue with upscaling older textures. It makes the game look MORE dated. GTA: The Trilogy: The DEFINITIVE Edition proves that in spades. Games don't need ray-tracing, "16x times the detail," uncanny reflections or 4K resolution to "look good." Consistency in art direction is everything.

Advanced Warfare and Infinite Warfare are both criminally underrated. E3N was the best little AI buddy (and well written). Yeah. The hate was excessive.
