ā€˜Opening the gates of hell’: Musk says he will revive banned accounts

ā€œApple and Google need to seriously start exploring booting Twitter off the app store,ā€ said Alejandra Caraballo, clinical instructor at Harvard Law’s cyberlaw clinic. ā€œWhat Musk is doing is existentially dangerous for various marginalized communities. It’s like opening the gates of hell in terms of the havoc it will cause. People who engaged in direct targeted harassment can come back and engage in doxing, targeted harassment, vicious bullying, calls for violence, celebration of violence. I can’t even begin to state how dangerous this will be.ā€

Etc.

Won't post the whole thing, but this article was certainly something. I'm assuming the proud Latinx quoted above has xir pronouns in xir bio. (As an aside, I didn't realize "Latinx" no longer gives a red underline thingy. Interesting.)

Gotta say, I'm not sure what Twitter meant by this:

Have you heard of pinephone? I've got one; it's a phone designed for use with a raw linux operating system. The original was underspeced, more to spur development of mobile linux (it was a lot rougher than it is today thanks to them), but it is usable (if you don't need google maps). They now have a "pinephone pro" with decent specs for $400. It still isn't and probably won't ever be for normies, but if they can manage that much, Elon and the people he attracts could make something work quicker than we'd think.

We've been given a tilted impression of what companies (and organizations in general) are capable of because they are all infected with PR and HR departments (thanks bernays) and managerial inefficiency be design. Elon seems to be able to cut through this I think in part by directly taking responsibility for HR and PR himself.

I think another big thing for Elon is he knows how to manage goodwill more than any bankman-fried ever could understand or appreciate. Not that Elon isn't ruthless in his own way, but it's a much more productive over parasitic ruthlessness. That itself builds goodwill with competent people who don't need their hands held by HR.

I digressed a bit but yeah hard to say at this point that him making his own phone is an empty threat.
It's optimistic to be quite honest but I'm fairly certain Elon musk has reached his limit. Too many rich and powerful NPCs are in Elon bad mode now. But I do see the seething probably calming down once everyone gets blanket amnesty meanwhile people caught up in the first ban wave will probably be more powerful this time.

While #RIPTwitter was trending on November 18, Mosquito Capital, a *SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience*, stayed up until 4AM writing a thread containing a numbered list of 56 threats to the integrity of Twitter that might endanger it now that it only has 1000 employees.
(link to thread) (archive)

Some of the risks he foresees include:

(Click the images next to the list entries to enlarge them. Or just squint really hard.)
14. The site is unable to take down child porn: View attachment 3938478
27. Musk forgets to hire security and a crazy person stabs him: View attachment 3928803
28. Musk is put on trial at the Hague after Congolese militias use Twitter to coordinate genocide: View attachment 3928809
29. Rebel forces use Twitter to organize overthrowing the government in a country Musk really likes: View attachment 3932622
33. Agents of the Chinese Communist Party hack into the mainframe: View attachment 3928821
34. Someone hacks Biden's account and threatens to nuke Russia: View attachment 3928197
36. Someone takes down the company by doing "1960s spy movie shit": View attachment 3928194
37. The jannies can't take it anymore and kill themselves: View attachment 3928185
40. A jannie snaps and shoots up the office: View attachment 3928176

You may remember that some of these already happened before Musk bought the company. Twitter already let the Taliban use the site, Biden's account was already hacked once in July 2020 (although that was before he became president), and Twitter was already sued in 2021 for neglecting to remove child porn.
If anything musk could move to Texas and remain in the US after all the state loves his money and fake he's attracted.

Has their been any word from Apple or Google about dumping the app other than the cries of asshurt activists? I assume they are trying to bomb the user support departments with complaints in a liz no dong maneuver. Because speculation about him opening chipfabs and phones is good to have, but i feel like we are entertaining another "twitter is dying" fantasy here.
Would Apple or Google even do it to spite Elon in the first place and open themselves up to legal issues?
No, this doesn’t seem to be anything more substantial than Twitter addicts whining. There’s also more than one app for accessing Twitter, which means they’d have to kick several other developers’ products off as well.

Not to mention that this particular frequency of screeching started because Trump’s account was unbanned, and as somebody pointed out earlier, these stores didn’t have a problem hosting the official Truth Social app.

what those retards not understand is that twitter isn't kiwifarms, you can't just backchannel with some faggot who sucked your trooncock in the past to drop fucking twitter of all things.

I don't doubt they're not trying liz fong dong style, that's how their cancel culture MO works, but twitter was worth 44 BILLION at some point (even if musk grossly overpaid), that's a whole different ballpark. so even if there is some soyboy activists exec that pulls the trigger without clearing it with legal first, there's a pretty good chance musk drags them before a court, and unless they can give a good reason why they did it instead of "my feelings" will get their balls stuck in a vice. and if it's not musk, there's a load of advertisers asking why and how. if you think apple vs epic was a shitshow, it would be even worse, especially since we're not talking about a store for digital kids toys here but one of the biggest social media apps on the planet. if they're not careful that shit can have a far wider reaching effect (in regards to platform and free speech) than just MUH MUSKRAT.
either way it will be a shitload of bad PR for no other reason than someone got butthurt.

wouldn't be surprised if apple/google are also playing a game of chicken to see who shits their pants first, and then either follow suit with "well we didn't drop twitter first, since the other one had doubts so had we" - the first one will be one dragged through the headlines - or the opposite, exploiting it for PR with "look at those faggots dropping it without reason and caving to a mob, would you trust a platform like that?"

then there's also the argument if all those minorities are now in danger, why not just go to mastodon, apparently that's so much better and safer than twitter ever was. you're not forced to be on twitter, remember it's a private company. who booted a sitting president after all, so I don't think they really want to open the can of worms that's section 230 and "right" to be on twitter.

says who, "sources close to twitter"? or some faggy post by some literally how that gets blown out of proportion?

it's more likely given lefty projection when it comes to stuff like this they are dumb enough to be paranoid and think "we got a list, so must they!!11!!". fuck, I wouldn't put it past the former "tweeps" to be retarded enough to keep shit like that on one of their work folders for musk to find. people tend to get complacent and lazy when they're think they're safe, and they felt very safe at twitter.

I really hope musk just publicly drops all the memos and notes of what happened in the past, like trump and hunter's notebook. unlikely since it probably involves glowies, but a man can dream.

What does Tesla run on? My understanding is Musk is a Microsoft guy. He may not want to mess with Linux. OS development for phones isn’t particularly hard but there’s a reason Linux still hasn’t made success on the desktop.
the reason linux doesn't make it big because there's not a bunch of lobbyist dumping millions on government officials to push it. technically it's greatest feature is also it's curse, there's no one at the helm who "owns" it, so if there's an issue you got no one to blame, companies and governments really like someone else to be liable. sure, you can get a service contract with red hat or whoever, but that's still different to say, microsoft or apple if the software suddenly deletes everything or launches nukes (the solution really is hiring competent people, but again that's more expensive. just look at the average microsoft MCP that just dumps his usual boilerplate "run sfc" whenever someone has an issue).

outside of that, linux progress is much slower (again, because in part no one pushes for shit, but then compared to windows which constantly pushes dumb shit, it's easy to see what's the better solutions for companies), but it's getting there. and it takes a while to displace the 30+ years microsoft ecosystem, that's a lot of inertia. lot of stuff these days works, either out of the box or with some tinkering (and again, linux is much easier to tinker with, by design, than winshit with "something happened :(" . good luck ever trying to fix windows when it doesn't want to work, that's like dealing with a schizo bipolar yandere girlfriend).

Anyone coming in and competing with Apple and Google in the mobile space is beyond a moonshot.
Isn't Musk already shooting for Mars? It's not like he lacks the ambition or money.
Who thinks that Twitter moves to Dallas to Fuck over the bay area types even more.
The DFW area actually wouldn't be that culturally hostile towards those types, although Texans in general would not want an influx of them. Although I suspect that anyone still at Twitter who hasn't been fired or quit due to an attack of the vapors is not the typical Current Year type.

Anyone coming in and competing with Apple and Google in the mobile space is beyond a moonshot. Microsoft and Blackberry (and Amazon to an extent) tried 10 years ago and failed miserably, and it's going to be even harder today. And it's going to take a lot more than losing Twitter to make the goyim pay attention and convince them to enter a new ecosystem.

tl;dr not happening.
After a couple years of twatter being profitable for almost the first time ever Elon will sell it to fund the space phone project

The EU is going to force Apple and Google to allow sideloading apps anyways.
The EU -- having proven itself time and again to be a toothless paper tiger as it flexes against Russia then immediately not only backs down but actively fucks itself raw by cutting off much of its cheap natural gas supply amid a genuine energy crisis -- is going to get a lot of practice hearing "go fuck yourselves" in the next few years. Companies will leave a market (even an entire continent) if it becomes unprofitable or untenable to operate there. Europe is a big market, but it's fucking expensive compared to essentially anywhere else on earth between draconian laws, more-retarded-than-usual politicians and outrageous fines.

In other words, Apple and Google are only going to tolerate so many multi-billion dollar fines and impinging on their internal operations by meddlesome governments from the dictators in Brussels before they get sick of that shit and leave Europe entirely. That and they want to be the dictators, not some wimpy bitches in Germany. The EU is trying really hard to compete with China for the title of "biggest pain in the ass to work with."

doubtful, because the minute they leave someone else will fill that vacuum. all that shit is worth it to not let competition crop up (which they can't just buy out like they usually do if it's EU based). elon is the exception, not the rule. old twitter, facebook and google have no problem spreading their asscheeks for retarded EU laws which hardly affect them anyway and still means billions in profit.

People probably said the same thing about Tesla well before Elon developed his massive cult of personality. Yeah it would be a niche expensive as fuck phone, but he doesn't have to reinvent the wheel. Plus it will have some gimmick that will make people want it more like his cars. Even if it eventually peters out it's still worth it to let people know they don't have to support these retarded Monopolies who want to comb through all the information on your phone like a fucking Peeping Tom.

bear in mind just how often musk over-promises and under-delivers. he said he would have a man on mars in ten years, and that was in 2012.

"Trump doesn't matter if people don't pay attention to him"
He then proceeds to make half his posts about Trump, and completely ignore he still has 90 million followers and his own social media.

I do feel like this guy is a bot if I'm being wholly honest, maybe it's just me but the way he speaks comes off as hollow, soulless and meaningless, but no, everything he says indicates he is, unfortunately, a real and incredibly miserable person. He's like NAFO in the fact he genuinely thinks he's gonna save the world by arguing on Twitter and "owning the Cons and ebil Libruls and Rusuns", when he's just a depressed addict.

That being said, when I get my account back I think I'll make a point to avoid using it as much as I did when I had the account, the site is overly addictive and unhealthy, I don't care whether Singh(?) or Musk is owning it.

No, they won't leave Europe. They'll just buy better commissioners than that lisping faggot Thierry Breton.
