What I always wonder about NPCs like this is if society does turn into a bunch of useless, helpless losers like Kevin incapable of taking care of themselves, much less defending themselves, ruled over by a tiny class of technocrats, why wouldn't the technocrats be smart enough to realize they'd be better off without these useless lumps and just get rid of them?
As long as the rat isn't harmed then I don't see any ethical dilemma.
Because unlike Kevin they're supposed to actually care about all other people rather than only themselves. Kevin wants slaves but he knows that's not acceptable anymore so the slave labor becomes "worker's liberation" and being a lump in a pod is "true freedom" and he handwaves it all with "technology and science" so he can think about his utopia of being freed from both his self-disfigured body and thought itself for endless emotional experience without it being sullied by those selfish pieces of shit who refuse to recognize Kevin's priority of existence.
