Steve1989MREInfo / Steve1989 / Steve Thomas - that guy that eats old MREs

Condensed milk is pretty shelf-stable. I don't think you'd see it last as long as some of the ancient food he's eaten on the show, but it should generally be good for a few years.
I think that when Steve has despaired about ancient milk turning rancid, it's either powdered or an ingredient in a chocolate bar. Weird that there isn't more condensed milk in rations; I wonder if you could make little packets.

Boiling a sealed can of sweetened condensed milk (Eagle brand if American, Longevity brand from Viet Nam anywhere else in the Pacific Rim) for about 3 hours never letting the water sink below the level of the top of the can turns it into Dulce de Leche, aka the most delicious caramel sweet you've ever tasted in your goddamn LIFE.
You can use a rock to sink it in the hot part of a hot spring, too. It takes longer and tends not to convert all the milk, but the woods automatically makes everything more tasty.

This is exactly why I usually have it around. That and it's great in coffee. I like the results I get with generic, done in a pressure cooker.

Americans are, in fact, confirmed too dumb to do this.
Which sucks, as it is, indeed, food of gods.
This is why I prefer the pressure cooker method. It sounds more dangerous than it is, and nothing wrong should happen especially with the current multicookers. You need one big enough to cover the can completely with a couple inches to spare. Make sure the can doesn't have any dents and obviously, remove the label and gunk. Bring to full pressure, cook for 15-30 minutes (it is up to you longer makes it darker but too long and the sugar starts crystalizing.

Then leave it completely alone without releasing the pressure all night until it comes down to room temperature entirely naturally. Use whenever you feel like.
3/10: Impractical ration, poor presentation, gross food items. Cheap utensils. I spoiled item.
Frosting for breakfast. Yum.
This would be about twice as good if it just had actual chunk light tuna instead of whatever cat food factory floor scrapings they used. Also have they never heard of retort pouches?

Good video. Armored units do a bit of 'field cooking' , so the video isn't completely unbelievable.
However, during an engagement- no one would have time for this.

Only the Russian MRE is as gross or awkward. I would rather eat the Russian MRE - but I like savory spreads.
Eh, Almost everything on the MRE is something civilians will pay to eat, of course not a lot (besides the plain hummus that's still paltable for Israelis), the only deal breaker is if you really dislike canned Tuna. Its biggest problem is that it's boring, but at least not soul crushing like the Chinese MRE, or can be catastrophically bad like some of the more complex dishes featured on the channel.
I wouldn't expect milk in ANY military ration, I think the one from Honduras was the only one I've seen with milk, and that was gamma-stabilized milk too if I am not mistaken. Milk does NOT last long, not even in powdered form. For the observant Jews, I would expect it even less.

I LOVE Halvah though. One of the few middle eastern treats I really enjoy. I think i prefer the plain version over chocolate halvah, but both are tasty.

I wonder what Israeli beans and tomato sauce taste like? I bet closer to British/Canadian style then American style.
I meant dairy based products (since it's against the religion to combine those with meat), but thinking about it those are rare. Also beans with tomato are closer to the British style.

I really enjoyed how interactive Steve got with the Israeli rations. It's neat when actual soldiers in the comments tell him what they used to "cook" out of what they were issued, and then Steve does it the next time he eats from that country.

(n.b. when I say "neat" I mean "an important part of History.")

It'd be fun if Steve filmed some short subjects of him following the various grunt recipes, even if it's just Ranger Mochaccino with hypnotic spoon noises.

It looks downright bad even compared to grocery store brand canned chunk light tuna.

Couldn't agree more. That was some seriously bottom-shelf tuna, smushed up and packed in OIL yet. I understand that MRE's aren't going to include solid white albacore in water, but STILL. I can only imagine the funk that must have risen from that can of tuna when it was first opened.

I don't think all those mildly flavoured other ingredients could have cut the massive fishyness of that tuna in those 'fishcakes' but the poor bastard had to work with what he had, or else face the face the prospect of gagging down another tin of disgusting low-grade fish that was probably more dolphin then tuna on plain matzoh again.

Judging by this person I normally agree with on stuff acting like this does not work and exploded the can

Let's be realistic, no one watching these tricks is ever going to use them, they're just going to quote them to sound knowledgeable to their equally retarded friends.

Steve trying to kill himself. Send Prayers.

Hmmm deadly Chinese food from 2019 you say?

Getting 3 instead of our usual 2 after a hiatus

Caps from each of the three videos. I knew Steve sat on videos for a while but the changes in his look are so drastic I wonder how long he waits.
Steve said in the comments that the HPM video was filmed all the way back in October but it took til now to find images he wanted to use in the intro lol, gotta respect him for wanting to go all the way with every video

That actually looks like a pretty good high-protien/calorie low fucking around ration for marines in the field, as long as you don't have to eat them for more then a few days in a row, or you'll probably see a return of the tactic in WW2 when the Japanese instead of surrendering would hold grenades up to their ears and pull the pin. You would think they would at least give the poor bastards some green tea powder. And that ration REALLY depends on their being a source of water in the field.

Gotta love Steve taking the chance on another Chinese ration though. After what he's gone through already with them it only increases my respect.

Isn't it four? First the Israeli and Canadian, now the Humanitarian and Chinese.

So glad that beard is back. I wonder if someone, somewhere, is cataloging all of Steve's hairstyle+facial hair combinations.
