People you used to watch, before they were fags (or you stopped being one) - A fall from grace

Retsuparae, given its SA roots, went downhill earlier than most.

Believe it was around 2012-13 I stopped watching.
Aw, man, Retsupurae got me through college. I remember finding their channel through Encyclopedia Dramatica and I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe the first time I found the BillyMC videos. Didn't they get some troll's remorse and nuke a bunch of their content? I know at least towards the end they stopped riffing bad let's plays and started just commenting on longplays. I definitely wasn't watching when 2016 rolled around, I'd be willing to bet that's when the rot really set in. TDS destroyed most of the good things about the Internet, especially the Something Awful community.

I used to really enjoy GameGrumps and Roosterteeth when I was younger. Turns out most of them are assholes, who would've thunk.
I will still defend the Jon Tron era of Game Grumps.

A lot of good picks already mentioned but I used to watch Phil DeFranco. It was a decent news channel but I lost interest when he became more and more slanted. Then the dude succumbed to TDS.

Gmanlives or GGGmanlives is another one. The dude just kept recycling the same script and more annoyingly kept reviewing the same fucking games.

Civvie11 is starting to climb up there too for me. Dude seems burnt out and I'm tired of him passive aggressively attacking viewers in the videos.

It's amazing how much of this I can trace back to the 2016 election - not just the general but the whining during the primaries. I think I watched some early Quinton Reviews stuff, which is hilarious now. Also Geek and Sundry and TWIT, networks like that with different shows that stopped being entertaining after a few years.

Jaubrey is the most recent one, I was still watching him at the start of this year but the fall was fast. There's a few like Jenny Nicholson where I don't see what I ever enjoyed about the channel but that's a me thing I think.

  • Good Mythical Morning - Once wholesome christian bois, then moved to Cali, became woke :(
  • Dangelo Wallace - decent commentary but i got fed up with his extreme smugness and leftist bias

Even youtubers I still love, occasionally have their obnoxiously woke moments. Nowadays I just assume a youtuber is leftist, so at least I won't be surprised.....just disappointed.

The fucking YouTube Commentary Community as a whole lmao. I can’t honestly tell you how I got into them (I.e. Turkey Tom, Nick DeOrio, etc.) but there was just a year where I was just binging their content/listening into their livestreams until I realize how much they act like a bunch of think skinned bitches.
(sorry for doubleposting)
Same. My useless opinions:
I kinda liked Creepshow Art until that whole drama happened last year, and Ready to Glare, whose content was similar but got boring after a while. Dangelo Wallace is waaaaay too smug imo. The Right Opinion is really good (although he is, regrettably, a faggot). Spoctor has a few good videos but is mostly...eeehhhhhh. Fredrik Knudsen is top tier as everyone knows. I kinda like Deadwing Dork, but he can be dry, and he's a smug centrist lol. Obviously there are way more but those are some I used to binge.
Anyway
I'm with you dude. I got burned out on commentary youtubers. The format itself gets so tiresome.

Several of mine have been mentioned, chiefly the Superbestfriends, so I won't elaborate on them. I do find it curious that I've been a very Internet person for ages, and despite being around for their heyday, I somehow managed to avoid being aware of things like AVGN and all those related, Jim Sterling, Ray William Johnson, Iddubs, all of those. I only found about them as they began falling from grace. Also GameGrumps, although that one was kind of intentional; I knew Arin in a forum before he was famous, he was an asshole (tho so was I) and we'd constantly be in the opposite sides of flamewars over dumb teen forum shit, and when he started getting famous for various things, I always avoided the things.

Also, anyone who troons out loses me. Not for the trooning itself, but it comes bundled with so much mental illness and bullshit. I mean just look at Digibro and the PCP, how quickly the cancer spread in that group, and how brutal the various backstabbings were.

Anyway.
It wasn't watching, but following his works: Andrew Hussie. Seeing how success and tumblr audiences absolutely ruined him was quite eye opening.

A more recent one, the Midnight's Edge people. They were so good at media analysis, responsibly reporting on leaks and rumors, etc.
Now all they do is hours upon hours of boring streams with has-been "industry insiders", bitching about Disney, presenting deranged fanfics as "industry analysis", and then coping and coping and coping when their claims don't pan out.
And they're not even wrong about the things they complain of, yes Disney and Hollywood are rotten with SJWs, but do we need 3 hours every fucking day saying the same shit over and over?
They'd moved those streams to a secondary channel, to keep the main channel for their much better editorials and reports; NO ONE WATCHED THE SECONDARY CHANNEL, so they started putting (boring) clips of the streams on the main, and eventually brought the streams back to it. Now it's most of what they do.
It fucking sucks.

Still, it was fun to see how quickly they dropped and damnatio memoriae'd MundaneMatt after the Boulder incident.

The only ones I can think of offhand:

I watched Spoony before he lost his mind and started making extremely boring content. I started out watching his FF8 playthrough, but I moved on to watch anything he came out with until he went down into a depressive spiral, killed his website and started just making 'lets watch' and really bland 'lets play' type content. He clearly saw 'lets play' as way less effort than his review skit style videos, and as a result put in much less effort than most successful lets play youtubers do.

I remember watching Arin's stuff when he was still Ego Raptor. I wasn't the biggest fan but I'm pretty sure I still watched all of it. He's way more boring and somehow even more cringe than he once was.

The Fandom Menace type group seemed fun and interesting to watch, as they pointed out all the flaws and pandering in various different franchises, and were sometimes the only voice of negativity about the thing they were talking about, while everyone else didn't allow any kind of proper criticism. Now there's better places that give more insightful criticism than they do for anything worth criticizing, and it's become apparent they literally cannot be pleased. It's all "Doctor HER" and "M SHE U" when so much as a female character is rumored to breathe on screen. In particular Heels vs Babyface pretty much admitted he didn't even watch the shows and would still launch on long rants about how bad the Loki episode was - to the point where he pre-wrote an episode rant about Loki's 'death' in an episode before the post-credits reveal that he hadn't died at all, and said 'well I wrote this out so I'm going to say it anyway, even though it's no longer valid criticism'. Besides him, Clownfish and Nerdrotic (who sound so similar I have a hard time believing they're not literally the same person) constantly spout lies for clickbait. Basically, they clearly all built their brand on being angry about media, so they can never be anything except angry about media, even when there's nothing interesting to be angry about.

I enjoyed both DBZA and Teamfourstar's gaming livestreams, but after they dropped DBZA they got less interesting with their livestreams, cutting out the bits I was more interested in listening to and repeating bad jokes until those jokes reformed into a fine whipped cream that smothered the rest of their video. Also their nuzlockes started out interesting and quickly devolved into 'we're scripting this for dramatic effect' which completely ruins the point of the challenge.

Out of all those I'd say only the third did I 'grow out of', as arguably nothing's really changed with the content of the whole Fandom Menace group, I've just grown tired of it and realized they always say the same thing with nothing insightful to add except unsubstantiated rumors and cope about how the latest smash hit Marvel movie 'flopped'.

Not youtuber. I like listening to radio stuff on Youtube/used to listen to a lot of stuff when I was younger. I used to really like Opie & Anthony but the more I've listened in recent years of the old stuff the more I realize they were all thin-skinned petty faggots. People often credit Opie for being the worst on it and sure he isn't great but Jimmy was also shit if you're more than a casual listener. Hoho another Godfather/Raging Bull reference, a gun with a toe-trigger attachment? What fresh material.

Old Ron & Fez clips still hold up pretty well because they had more fun imo. They weren't always angry and throwing little hissyfits that weren't bits.

Believe it was around 2012-13 I stopped watching.
At the time, I was still blissfully ignorant and thought they'd stopped being edgy because of Youtube policies against "bullying" and such.

It's only watching in retrospect that I realize Slowbeef had become terminally pozzed.

Used to watch a few of the Channel Autism people (Spoony before he became a sadcow, Brad before I lost interest, a little bit of Doug with my younger brother who liked him more than I did)

Used to watch AVGN before it just became pathetic seeing Bimmy go (literally according to his book) full autist

Used to fall asleep listening to Lorerunner before i found out he’s a pedophile, wife beater and habitual liar

Quite a few podcasts I enjoyed before they went balls deep into wokeshit

Noah Cadwell Gervais made decent vidya retrospectives before going woke also

I watched Ready to Glare at one point until I got tired of the moral grandstanding and the "muh mental health" bullshit. Her, Creepshow Art (could not get through a second of her videos. Was very fitting that she got exposed for being the cunt she's always been) and D'angelo Wallace (don't watch him either because he looks like a faggot) are more "tea" than anything; aka content geared towards women.

Liked TRO at one point until he started making longer content about stuff I either don't care about or already know. That Nikocado Avocado video had no right to be four hours long.

Rooster Teeth definitely is mine tbh. Like, I've quit watching tons of youtubers and streamers before but RT is the one I think about the most sometimes.

I used to be a fucking fanatic for that company. I consumed basically every piece of media they put out til RWBY essentially (Watched like 3 episodes and thought it was complete shit). I loved the old Drunk Tank Podcast and the OG 6 man era for Achievement Hunter produced some of the funniest shit I've ever watched. I can still pop on some of those OG LPs and bust a gut laughing. A simpler time for a simpler Lecherous Granola Bar.

But then they sold out to Full Screen, Ray left and it just didn't feel the same anymore. That cool little indie blip on the map was now just a part of the machine. AH kept losing good members and replacing them with complete trash ones. A problem made worse by them calling basically anyone that hated the new members racist kept me away entirely. Haven't like a single new person at AH since Jeremy and even he left that shithole. RT is basically a company that only produces RWBY now, which I've always hated and apparently has somehow gotten worse in the intervening years.

Funhaus kept me around for a bit in the post sellout era since they still maintained their edge for a bit but then basically everybody left or was kicked (I dropped when Bruce and Lawrence jumped ship), with only James remaining now. Surrounded by a bunch of unfunny clowns.

Shame what happened there tbh. Such a huge bit of my life that I've completely abandoned.

SBN3 (aka Soulbro). I could look past him distancing his channel from other abridged ones but as previous posts stated, something changed after the 2016 Election. His more politically incorrect videos (including all of the Arthur Dubs) were scrubbed from major platforms and his newer dubs just felt tamer as the writing seemed to feature a lot of left-wing talking points.

AE Podcast. I initially tolerated the early "seasons" since the hosts, one Irish and two English, were not so rabid about virtual signaling whatever wrestling show an episode covered (I also followed some of their spin-off podcasts). Once again, 2016 was the turning point given both Brexit happened and Trump was elected US President. I bowed out after the fourth season where it was delayed because of the coof and they got on their high horses about the China virus, George Floyd, January 6th, and the Speaking Out movement in wrestling companies.

It seems like every wrestling youtube is a giga faggot tbh. Used to like W3 but shit just kept getting slipped into his videos that made me cringe. Right now can't fins any I like without them clutching their pearls over how 'problematic' early wrestling was.

While Markyd123 is also English, he's not as whiny as other wrestling channels when it comes to past angles or characters. And his content is a breath of fresh air since he doesn't cover topics that have been done to death.
