Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

I am watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes for the first time, and Jesus Christ, this show is fucking excellent.

Political intrigue, interesting characters, good plotting, great use of classical music for the soundtrack.

There's a bit of over the topness with some characters, but it can be forgiven.

I am the part where
both sides are engaged in civil wars and one of the Nobles just nuked a planet of 2 million people for killing his nephew.

It's Game of Thrones, but good and without the incest.
I find it a bit too on the nose sometimes with the writing but I love some of the characters. So overall I'm more of a fan of the heartfelt moments than the political intrigue, although I also appreciate it (anime rarely does stuff like that, much less on this scale). I should finish it someday but it already felt complete around midway.

I'm only on Episode 24/25 and there are 110 episodes, so we'll see how I feel when it's done, but for now it's excellent.

It's interesting that even Nijika is a bit of an introvert. She really is the most normal among them, not normie enough to be popular like Kita, not autistic like the other two. Just common sense and title drops.
It was nice of Kita to carry the group in the latest episode as well. You can tell her life is busy so she doesn't care all that much about the group, but once she found a moment to share with them she really went all out and would have stayed longer if the others were up for it and not homebodies.
Also she was right about taking the stairs.
I imagine Nijika has some friends who regularly go to the club, while Kita has like ten friend circles at all times.

Also who the fuck charges for an escalator? If it was a gondola lift it would have at least made sense since those things need far more maintanance. Hope Bocchi gets reimbursed.

Tis the season for based anime Santa-san.

Can anyone recommend a decent anime podcast? Spotify can't seem to find me one that isn't hosted by people who sound like they desperately need Nugenix Total T. A few years ago there was an anime podcast called Otabros, hosted by four guys who didn't come off as low-T shills or complete spergs. Just some bros who sounded otherwise normal having fun talking about anime. In 2018 or 2019, they abruptly disappeared, and I can't find their old episodes anywhere. I've never been able to find anything that had the same vibe of normal people talking about weeb shit.

It's a great space opera. The space operas of space operas back when scifi in all mediums was a flourishing genre.

Not really an answer to your question but I've been wondering the same thing and I'd like to ask if the Trash taste podcast is one of the ones you tried and didn't like. I've seen that one around sometimes and haven't had the time yet to try it out, but at first glance it would appear that at the very least they don't really care about virtue signalling cause they had pewdiepie on last month despite his apparent 'nazi' status now.

Give Otaku Spirit a shot. They focus on current seasons, discussional podcasts and episodes that only play the current season anime OP/ED themes. They're normal guys that talk about anime and anime related stuff. You may like, but your mileage may vary.

I'll check it out, thanks. I've always avoided them because I've only ever seen them recommended in the same breath as ANNCast and Crunchycast. "If you like the guy who got pegged by Jesuotaku, you'll love this" didn't inspire much confidence. Maybe my problem is I've just been too quick to pre-judge shit as soy content without giving it a fair shake.

I didn't know they did an anime podcast. I've only heard of them from the vtuber thread here, because they sometimes say something that will cause vtuber fans to rip their dicks off in anger. I figured they were Twitch streamers or something. I'll give them a shot, but I don't have a high opinion of fog-breathing monarchist limey scum in general.

I am watching the latest Mob Psycho and I am really liking the direction this final arc is going, I'm glad they're finally addressing the ??? state that Mob has, and it's pretty cool how ??? is the final boss.

The new season of Spy X Family is pretty bad, I don't know if it's excessive filler or the same in the manga but the humour got stale, the characters are barely used in interesting ways and nothing fucking happens. Anya getting the seven stars/bolts hasn't moved at all and there are six of those fuckers to go yet.
The last two episodes are especially boring, they introduced a kuudere character (and that's pretty much her only personality though the VA is trying her best) who's supposedly a rival for Yor but there are no stakes since Loid doesn't care about romance or really has any problem with Yor. I have the feeling the franchise is going through character creep which is usually a sign of the quality going down.

Was reading Blame! the other day..

Goddamnit i really wish there is a game based on it, The world is so fucking cool.

The new season of Spy X Family is pretty bad,

It's not like the first season was good either. I was borderline forced to watch it by a friend (it's very good! very funny! You like Cold War stories right?) and it's quickly noticeable how the entire Cold War/spies thematic is pure window dressing, and even badly understood. I'm not asking to rehash The Man from UNCLE or something, but when the series degenerates into the usual badly-written genres (Man Raising Family, School Comedy) it's a sign that the author has no ideas and knows nothing about the genre he's supposed to be homaging.

But hey, cute child doing funny faces! Top comedy, ain't it?

I've read the author fucking hates it because he was talked into going all in on marketability, and as a result he can't upset the dynamic and he made Anya too retarded (I am paraphrasing) to do anything interesting.
That seems like a total unimaginative hack excuse to me though. Anything has a solution when you can write in literally any element you need. Plenty of cute stable happy family settings manage interest even without assassins, secret mutant experimentation labs and Stasi spies. But if even the author gave up and thinks it's a lost cause I'm not expecting much.

It's not like it needs to be complicated, the plot is basically Anya getting to six stars and bolts, getting expelled with the last bolt for doing the right thing, the family breaking up, Anya confessing her powers and the family getting back together and finishing the mission together. It's not an original story and I think the writer basically wrote himself into a corner for making the endpoint way too far and it being entirely reliant on Anya while Loid and Yor do their own things in the background. If it doesn't go anywhere it's better to either timeskip to older Anya still at school (so she's slightly smarter) or timeskip to the final star with some handwave how she managed it.
