The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced they will step back as "senior" royals and work to become financially independent.

In a statement, Prince Harry and Meghan also said they plan to split their time between the UK and North America.

The BBC understands no other royal - including the Queen or Prince William - was consulted before the statement and Buckingham Palace is "disappointed".

Senior royals are understood to be "hurt" by the announcement.

In their unexpected statement on Wednesday, also posted on their Instagram page, the couple said they made the decision "after many months of reflection and internal discussions".

"We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

They said they plan to balance their time between the UK and North America while "continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages".

"This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity."

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said discussions with the duke and duchess on their decision to step back were "at an early stage", adding: "We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through."

The couple's announcement on Wednesday comes two months after the Duke of York withdrew from public life after a BBC interview about his ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself in August.

If by "for free" you mean "her every want and need for the rest of her life is provided for lavishly by the British taxpayer", then I suppose.
In exchange, they hand over any thought of independent life, stand where they're told to stand, say what they're told to say, and otherwise try stay out of the newspapers. She's an actor. She should have been used to all that already. Unfortunately, she's also not very bright, and assumed marrying the 5th in line to the throne would mean she could just have endless wealth and spend all her time in Monaco. She should have gone for a minor European princeling, or some Arab scion, if she wanted that.

The grift goes on.

Prince Harry says 'it's a dirty game' in new Netflix trailer

Prince Harry speaks of the "leaking and... planting of stories" as part of a "dirty game" in a new trailer for the Harry and Meghan series on Netflix.

He describes the "pain and suffering of women marrying into this institution" in an apparent reference to his wife, Meghan, and mother, Princess Diana.

The issue of race is raised, with a commentator saying of the couple's experience: "It's about hatred. It's about race."

Three episodes will appear on Thursday.

A further three episodes of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's account of royal life will follow on 15 December, with a start time of 08.00am for UK viewers for both weeks.
Harry and Meghan

The latest trailer reveals a series of hard-hitting comments which show no sign of offering any olive branches to the Royal Family.

Instead there is a commentary that claims "there was a war against Meghan to suit other people's agendas".

Over an image of senior royals on the Buckingham Palace balcony, Prince Harry says: "There's a hierarchy of the family. You know there's leaking, but there's also planting of stories."

Prince Harry and Meghan, who are no longer "working royals", were not allowed on to that symbolic balcony for the late Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee.

A previous trailer last week drew comments about the choice of a stony-faced picture of Catherine, Princess of Wales and this latest teaser includes another austere picture of her, alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort, and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.

The trailer for the six-part series shows a quickfire narrative of the couple's difficult relationship with other royals, the media and the public - which ended with Prince Harry and Meghan moving to the US.

It begins with Meghan being warmly received by the public - treated like a "royal rock star".

But then it suggests "everything changed", with Prince Harry talking of leaks and planted stories. Christopher Bouzy, who founded a company specialising in tackling social media misinformation, appears in the trailer and says: "It's about hatred. It's about race."

Mr Bouzy has been a supporter of Meghan and warned about online attacks against her.

The trailer links Meghan's experience to the pressure faced by Princess Diana using images of the intense press attention surrounding her - with Meghan saying "I realised, they're never going to protect you".

"We know the full truth," says Prince Harry at the end, introducing a series which will have a 15 rating, with the Netflix series warning it deals with "discrimination".

Buckingham Palace has not officially responded to the latest glimpse of the revelations ahead.

But there is likely to be concern about what accusations might be made, and whether the Harry and Meghan show will overshadow the efforts of other royals.

The TV show in the run-up to Christmas will also be followed by the publication of Prince Harry's memoir in the new year.

Last week, a teaser for the Netlix series was released at the same time as Prince Harry's brother, the Prince of Wales, was in the US to present his Earthshot environmental prize.

The documentary promises a "behind closed doors" account of why Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 - and audiences will be looking to see if they say more about the issues raised in an interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

Meghan had described a lonely and isolated life within the Royal Family and had complained about a lack of support.

She also suggested an unnamed family member had asked "how dark" their son Archie's skin might be.

The trailer for the upcoming documentary comes against a backdrop of a race row over comments to a black British guest at Buckingham Palace.

Lady Susan Hussey, Prince William's godmother, stood down from her honorary palace duties last week after Ngozi Fulani, the founder of the charity Sistah Space, described how she had been repeatedly asked where she "really" came from at a reception.

A spokesman for Prince William responded to the row by saying that "racism has no place in our society".

He had best not piss off William.

I have a feeling that Charles is going to be a lot more cognizant of the fact that William will be King sooner than later. He's going to realize he probably won't live near as long as Mummy and from personal experience knows the frustration of being sidelined for years.

He's probably aware he's a caretaker King at this point for a decade or so, and will be spending most of that time getting William ready and will probably include him on major decisions. Anything long term, he's probably going to ask William "what do you want to do" or at least get his take.

So how Harry is going to be treated for the next 40 years is really going to hinge on how much he pisses off William...

Megan's no Grace Kelly, not by any stretch of the imagination. Minor continental nobility and Arab oil shieks can both presumably pull hotter ass with less baggage, given that they don't have the high profile of the Windsors, and aren't constantly being circled by the piranhas of the British tabloids press. The conventional explanation as to why Harry was single into his 30s despite being the world's most desirable bachelor is that very few women actually want to be the wife of the spare, given that you have the same choreographed existence of the rest of the Firm, but none of the bragging rights about your husband (and later son) being king.

Megan, as befits a D-tier actress with very little between her ears, thought she could Have It All: the palaces and tiaras, the servants and the fame, without any of the downsides: the life of a bird in a gilded cage, strict neutrality on all controversial topics. Basically, she wanted to be the new Diana, just without the divorce or that bit at the end.

Tbf because they were further down the chain technically they could go around telling johnny public how to live. Which is what they did while learning that people don't much care for that sort of thing.

Diana played it relatively well. When she did things outside the box it was mostly things like visiting a hospital and talking with affected people vs "wow you all suck and must stop being dicks to people with HIV"

She did a Panorama report for the beeb about landmines in Angora where she walked across a literal minefield shortly before her death and Royals tutted. But because she'd actually taken some action it made the tutters look bad in response.

Not that she was perfect by any sense. But it wasn't just having the cameras on her that made Diana as liked as she was. She never took that attention fully for granted + had a genuine warmth about her. Harry & Megan just saw she turned the media obsession into a positive but stopped taking notes after "sob story interview"

Indeed. At this rate with her behavior and attitude the only thing she's going to get when william takes the throne is this:

As has been pointed out she's no diana and she can't play the race card the way it works in the US for a multitude of reasons. She's inevitably going to keep stirring shit until she gets booted to someplace like bermuda with harry, like what happened the last time a king renounced the throne. Without the public spotlight and all the perks she wants from being in the UK and harry knowing he's in the situation he is because of her theres going to be alot of resentment building up and sooner or later I expect a messy divorce with plenty of accusations coming out of her about how she was treated like shit for being black cause the royal family totally hates black people and was out to get her from the start, while harry is pressured to keep his mouth shut as is expected of him

That said, I still don't understand how the fuck he ended up with her. He's a a prince of the british royal family ffs. He's not the crown prince or ever going to be king but even in his position there are far better women out there than washed up skank. If shes the best he can do there really must be something seriously wrong with him

Most women within that “class” knew the pain in the ass it was to be a working royal. Most of them probably at least know someone related to Queen Liz. Hell, Kate got shit on for taking her time to formalize and move on with William. Honestly if he’d been some wealthy twit who was a Vanderbuilt or something he probably would’ve had an easier time finding a woman who wanted him.

Megan… Wanted to be Grace Kelly, ended up even less looked up to than Fergie.

Imagine backstabbing your family, royal or not for a black, ugly women.
Although they can all rot in a trash fire.

Monarchy has done nothing but to debase themselves amongst the elites, protecting and endorsing them and never using the huge loyal following of the public they had to make any positive changes to society except some milquetoast remarks about the current trendy issue at hand.

From the BBC's live-watch of the meghan'n'harry show. (a)

Meghan says she had to learn Royal protocols

We've reached the halfway point of episode three (live blogging a series somewhat slows down the process of watching it).

Meghan claims she did not realise that being a member of the Royal Family meant she would be expected to be politically neutral.

The causes supported by the Royal Family are, traditionally, not controversial, points out Tim Burt, who works for the couple's production company.

"Meghan was more of an activist," he says, while a clip from 2018 shows her talking about female empowerment.

"I didn't know that would be taboo, to talk about," Meghan picks up, wearing a confused expression.

But, she adds: "Joining this family, I knew that there was a protocol for how things were done."

Meghan has previously claimed she never Googled Harry before she met him. But she does admit to Googling the national anthem, which she had to learn.

Earlier in the watch, the show explains that Harry saw her first on instagram. Sounds like a post-hoc story to explain it, though the idea that Harry would fall for an instathot on the rebound isn't all that surprising.

At some point, the special takes a detour into brexit, so it can paint the common citizenry as a bunch of racist, swivel-eyed loons, and that's why they don't like poor megain.

The whole thing sounds like a load of wank about how oppressed meggers is, for being forced to marry into one of the most powerful families in the world. She's casting blame for everything onto everyone but herself. Even Harry is forced to mea culpa about Meghan's relationship with her dad. It's "his fault", you see, though for some reason this is never clarified. Every criticism of them is racism. Evertything that doesn't suck Meghan's twinkly toes is racism. Everything is racist and Harry is a poor victim of his Racist Upbringing, that he's valiantly tried to work against, but obviously he'll stil fail from time to timer and Meghan will be his saviour.

Just reading the highlights from other peoples' coverage is enough to make me want to vomit. Foul cunt. She's getting fat, too. Trying to hide it with broad shoulders on her coats, but the jowls don't lie.

Contempt for peasants. Well she got that traditional characteristic of "nobility" down pat.

"Meeting over instagram" is code for "she was an model escort hired to entertain a Prince." It's not rare some models or minor actresses do that for rich arabs, so why would it be different for a prince?
Bingo!

Because Harry is a cuck faggot loser who lets his fucking shrew of a wife dictate everything to him, despite being mid as fuck. Pathetic.
Agreed, it is pathetic. The only explanation I can think of is that she has muscles in her pussy that other woman don't have, and she has some kind of succubus mind control over him.
