Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

I've been skimming through this thread, and i've been thoroughly convinced. Not finished yet, but need to skip ahead to ask something important:
How can I know what is and is not a pitt bull? Lots of dogs have this sort of squashed headed face and pittbull body. Are they all dangerous? Or are there breeds that look similar but which are fine?

If someone brings anything that looks anything like a pitt bull into a dog park, should I become wary/leave/move away? Or do I need to learn how to spot this one specific breed?
Just don't even bother to go. As someone who has been to many dog parks from many places over many years, it isn't worth it. Too many people bring in their pent up dogs and don't watch them. They get into fights and everything else. As mentioned before me, it isn't always the most simple to describe a pitmix, or really any bullymix at that, but anymore you are better off either just not going to dog parks or only going during super off hours when two other dogs are there at most.

Another thing to look for is the "well" on the head, where the center of the head has a dip inward and its very prominent. This, along with what others have said, can help.

Can also look online for different common mixes to get an idea, look up animal shelters in the US, or even look up videos on how to spot ones. Once you start seeing them more often, like any other breed, it helps to make spotting mixes a lot easier.

Here is a more obvious answer to kind of help you get started: Pit Golden mix
  1. Welled, wide head
  2. Almond eyes
  3. Wider snout
  4. Appears to be muscles under the fur
  5. Droopy gums

Knowing what other breeds look like as their standards helps too so you know what is different.

“Without warning, it appears the dogs then turned on the juveniles and began attacking them,”

The warning should have been that they were Pit Bulls.
The article doesn't even mention the breed. Even with dogs, you have to play guess-that-race. The part where it tried to eat a bunch of children is a pretty good hint.

What really offends me is the shelter will list the first dog as a "retriever mix" instead of a "terrier mix".

88 year old woman dead by pit bull. But good news everyone! It was HER fault for startling the good doggo!

Investigation yields no felony charges in case of 88-year-old Richmond woman killed by dog attack

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The criminal investigation into the case in which an 88-year-old Richmond woman was killed in a dog attack has ended and it has been decided no felony charges will be placed on the owner of the dog.

Evangeline Brooks, 88, was attacked by the 6-year-old pit bull after she called out to her neighbor from a nearby yard around 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 7.

The Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said the neighbor, Tracey Hicks, was startled at the greeting because it was dark outside and, due to her reaction, the dog suddenly attacked Brooks. The dog had on a shock collar and was not on a leash at the time of the attack.

The dog did not respond to the Ms. Hicks’ use of the shock collar and Ms. Hicks had to beat her dog with a rake before she was able to drag the dog off of Ms. Brooks. Ms. Hicks put the dog in her house, called 911 and immediately returned to assist Mrs. Brooks.
Statement from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office
Brooks was rushed to the hospital but the decision was made to take her off life support the next day.

“My mother went 30 minutes without breathing when they were working on her,” Brooks’ son, Howvard Brook said. “They said she would not come out of the coma that she was in.”

Brooks was a school teacher, community volunteer and longtime member of First Baptist Church South Richmond.

The owner of the dog, Tracey Hicks, was issued five summonses, including: Dog No Breeder’s Permit, Nuisance Dog, Dog No City License, Dog No Current Rabies Vaccination and Unrestrained Dog, and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said she fully cooperated with the investigation.

An investigation into the tragedy included statements from Hicks, Brooks’ son, neighbors, the dog’s veterinarians, vet records and a review of body-worn camera video. The decision was then announced by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office on Monday, Nov. 28 that “no further criminal charges are appropriate.”

Hicks will go to court for the five misdemeanor charges on Nov. 30. The charges are all class 4 misdemeanors — the lowest level criminal offense in the Commonwealth. While they are minor, they are still considered criminal charges.

According to Richmond police, the dog was surrendered into Richmond Animal Care and Control custody directly after the attack and was immediately euthanized.

Correction: A previous version of this story included inaccurate information related to Hicks’ criminal charges. The story has been updated.

I'm not posting the picture because it's fucking horrific, but it's on the Irish mirror story so careful if you don't want to see it.

Knowing the Irish judicial system the owner will probably get a fine for not having the dog on a leash and that'll be the height of it. Cunt should be doing time. Reports that the dog chased and bit a different child a few days prior bit it was still allowed out to roam

Harker Heights man who ‘defended’ himself with machete during alleged pit bull attack indicted on animal cruelty charges

The plot twist is that they were his pits. He also left one to slowly die after being injured beyond repair. So it's possible for the person who hacks a pit bull to bits with a machete to actually be the bad guy, under certain circumstances.

Shouldn't have owned them in the first place. He was the bad guy for owning not just one, but multiple pits then having the inevitable happen, assuming he is even telling the truth. "Lucky" it was the owner and not someone else.

I wanted to share a happy ending story.

Recently a shitbag methhead decided to squat in residence on an empty property near with their shitbull dog. She refused to keep the dog on a leash and there was no fenced yard so her shitbull ran free. So off he ran again one day and she had to go looking for him. She found him- with a bullet in his head - on the side of the road up the street from her. He fucked around and found out. Our neighbors dont play with that shit.

Then the crazy bitch buried her pos dog alongside the neigborhood road and decorated the grave with gaudy trash and solar lights for all to see. Twas quite a gloriously trashy lil memorial.

But alas, weeks later the cops came with guns looking for her. Dont know what the crazy bitch did or who called the cops but apparently she hid out until after the cop left. Then she dug up her dead dog and fled.

But alas, weeks later .......
she dug up her dead dog and fled.
Highlighted these.

She dug up a pitbull that was dead for several weeks, and took it with her. A corpse dead that long would reek to high heaven and be in the active putrefaction stage, length depending on time of year and climate, and burial conditions.

She would have been better off leaving it in it's burial spot, then come back in about 6 months (if she was still free) and collect the bones if she still wanted to take it with her.

One of my friends sent this pic to me with a message saying they sent it to me because they knew as soon as I saw it I'd love it. I figured much the same about you lot:

Lol, not gonna lie, i love those weird stories like that man who was arrested for throwing a hedgehog at his roomate, the man who tried to murder a neighbor by putting hundreds of wasps in his house, the lady who got dv charges for assaulting her husband with a frozen squirrel and so many more.

So in the face of this shitbull thing only increasing and seeing a few in my vicinity I gotta ask:

What are some good anti-pitbull dogs?

Talking breeds that could kill a pitbull, not for a fight of course but in case one of these fuckers gets too close. Tho I would prefer a breed that is less insane/prone to attacking me, as these genetic abominations are.

So which one? a tibetan mastiff? dogo argentino? rottweiler? fucking sucks that I have to get a dangerous dog to counter other dangerous dogs just because these fuckings things aren't banned like in other countries.

Probably guarding or hunting breeds, such as the Akita in the video, or Borzois.
