Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

I like LOGH a lot, even the CGI ships version, but that's the major downside of the story- if you didn't know what Yoshiki Tanaka thinks about politics, you're going to find out. There's an entire half of a book dedicated to showing off how awful hereditary nobility is, like we couldn't figure that out from the time
If you're referring to the "history of the Goldenbaum dynasty" stuff, it at least gave us bits like "Kaiser Kaspar was a homosexual."

Yet another top tier Bocchi episode, we see a lot of new faces of the characters and I really liked Kita's confession in the end.

Hopefully it's 12 episodes, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a guaranteed second season if the reactions in Japan are the same as in the west.

to be honest, i never gotten into Kaguya-sama, it looked too autistic for my tastes and Chika's personality and design screaming "obnoxious autistic retard" didn't help matters
that's why she's best girl.

but seriously, kaguya is just a romcom with tsunderes in the lead, which leads to all kind of funny hijinks. if that's not your thing (or even if it is), doesn't mean it always works. I like romcoms, and lot of people seem to like takagi-san enough that it got 3 seasons and a movie, but it's just boring for me.

helps that it's written pretty well (granted I never read the manga, so take that as a anime opinion only. but I know they outright skipped certain characters and plots). also ended in a pretty good spot, dunno what the upcoming movie is gonna add (probably focus and wrapping up the story of some side characters similar to the manga). but even if it sucks it can be ignored.

It's usually my problem with a lot of idol anime, the best part of the show is them doing side gigs or small events for publicity, and it usually goes with them jumping from small scale to immediately being massive celebrities. At least Zombieland Saga had them actually showing what happens when a popular idol group in bumfuck nowhere goes to a huge Tokyo event.
because most people who watch idol anime don't want several seasons of "making it to the top" - which won't happen anyway since most adaptions or original works are only ever one season, where everything has to wrap up (and then get extended to milk it). the last thing I expect and most people outright don't want is a "realistic" take on it. they want a feel-good story about success injected with some girl-drama (which can get really retarded sometimes even beyond "just fucking talk to each other").

that's doesn't mean you can't tell those stories (like perfect blue), but really depends on the audience and saturation (there's limit to everything and everything being like perfect blue would be equally annoying).

I'm fine with both but I still think more stories should take their time. Show what's going on with the characters daily lives, space out the big events. More buildup for bigger payoffs. Of course that means more effort as well, but when it works you're getting faithful fans.

Not idol/music stuff but very relevant.

I don't see a lot of idol anime, bu I rather like Skip Beat! Not so much because the protagonist's rise to the top is realistically slow, but because she feels like an evolving artist; by the end she's convincing the director and other actors that her very different take on her character works.
Space Brothers is an incredibly long burn. In the manga, the protagonist doesn't reach space until volume 30+; and the anime which lasts only 99 episodes, doesn't get that far. In the story, it's stated he spends over four years as an astronaut before he gets to fly.

You can still have a first season win by just having a medium size venue or the idol making some personal goal.

Man, for a televised anime, this animation is surprisingly fluid. Not just in the concert scene here where that's expected, but in the character acting. Most shows don't even go that far, I think.

I usually only watch new anime over a year after everyone's stopped caring about it but goddamn you people are making me want to actually watch Bocchi right now.

I thought it'd be one of these "all style no substance" but it really has both. Haven't enjoyed an anime that much in a long time. The fanbase got really creative as well.

That said, I should also get into the new Gundam since it's apparently pretty good too.

I've only watched the first episode of Bocchi a few weeks ago, but man, the positive reception it has around here makes me want to watch the rest of it.

Anyway, I've recently read through One Pound Gospel. Honestly, I enjoy the concept, a guy trying to become a great boxer while also dealing with his relationship with a nun and his overeating habits, but unfortunately, the series never finished. And the jokes kinda got repetitive after a while. (Similar issue I have with Rumiko's other work Inuyasha). Still, would have been nice to see where the series could have gone.

EDIT: Scratch that, apparently it was finished, but I haven't found the last few chapters yet. Blech.

Acclaimed anime director Masaaki Yuasa is up for some big time recognition for his latest feature, Inu-Oh. The movie has officially been nominated in the Best Motion Picture – Animated category of the 80th Golden Globe awards, which will air on January 10, 2023 on NBC.

As for the competition, Inu-Oh will be up against Turning Red, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.

While the list of nominees has yet to be announced, Inu-Oh is also eligiblefor an Oscar nomination.

It has been a drought, but we at least finally have an anime based film that is nominated for a Golden Globes award. Optimistic stickers for the recent One Piece: Red movie for being nominated for an Oscar.

I watched this when it first released, it was pretty fun but I wouldn't say it was spectacular. Since it's based on the Tales of the Heike, it can be more or less a bit of a weird companion piece to Heike Monogatari since they came out one after another. A western audience aren't probably going to get it without seeing both.

Elitists suck Yuasa's dick all the time. But from what I took out of the given synopsis, it sounds kinda faggy (Yuasa's works attract fujoshis because the guys are all uwu softbois)/checks off some token diversity shit because characters are blind or disfigured and that's why it got nominated.

It's just your usual rock and roll movie with a supernatural historical japanese twist, two dudes set up a band to fight the man and give salvation to a bunch of ghosts with the power of rock, make it big, one sells out while the other gets executed..

Yo, it's SkiHawk, got locked out of my old account because I'm a dumbass

but I finished Monogatari a while back. Amazing stuff, and when I have the motivation I'm definitely reading Off Season.

Anways, next watch is probably gonna be Bocchi the Rock cause it's Bocchi the Rock
