World of Warcraft

Don't forget too that the reason Survival was made melee was "you could do it vanilla" and "Rexar is melee". The problems with that retardation is that obviously they never played Warcraft 3. Rexar's hero class was BEASTMASTER. And melee surv in vanilla was a meme, no one that played except solo ever specced melee survival.

Melee Survival started in Legion and since their artifact was a polearm, nobody at 100-110 dual wielded.
Yes, but IIRC back when Survival was reworked into a melee spec the skills weren't strictly restricted to 2-handed weapons. It wasn't optimal to dual-wield but it was still a thing you could do. Later on during Legion they streamlined further so most attacks Survival had could only be used with a 2-handed weapon.

Maybe they changed it because twinks? I dunno. I do remember despite being a shitty ass spec, it had its moments in progressive raiding and pvp and it was one of the worst specs to do the mage tower. I had seen more survival hunters than feral druids though.

Only time I can remember melee surv being meta in Legion was the Mythic Gul'Dan fight because of their very short but insane melee AoE burst damage. But the general consensus was that outside of extreme edge cases like that it took too much effort to be competitive in the spec and it was easier to just run BM or Marks. I don't follow pvp because I consider it the reason why so much to the hunter toolkit was gutted. I mean, how dare rogues and druids have a hard counter to their stealth.

It looks like Blizzard is getting desperate with trying to generate more sales, that they're offering a free month of game time if you purchase Dragonflight, or gift it to a friend.

The lack of any announcement about sales, compared to how Nintendo was eager to brag about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet selling 10 million copies in only 3 days (and Blizzard even had a free-to-play weekend for WoW during those said 3 days), and Blizzard was eager to brag about Shadowlands's sales on launch, is also concerning.

It's too bad he's spent most of his time painting miniatures and wargaming cos I don't think there's any Dragonlance books he can plunder for ideas this time around.
I mean, you say that, but this came out literally just last week:

I'm probably the target audience for this promotion, since I'm an 18 yr sub still grandfathered into monthly w/no Dragonflight. Except I didn't read that email because I don't read my emails. Make a product that isn't shit and doesn't look down on the consumer and I'd consider it. Even Hearthstone is making me mad right now, only 3 classes are playable because the new set is garbage and they nerfed the only card making hunters viable 4 days into it. My BG climb has been legit the past few days though so they still have their hooks in me.

That sounds like Blizzard, their "less options is better" approach is what killed my interest in the game.
If you have choices, there's a chance that you'll pick the ones Blizzard would prefer you didn't.

I saw that and just wanted to scream at Blizzard that they should just fucking give 30 days game time when people buy their $50+ USD expansions that require that game time to even play. It's also weirdly soon for them to have any special offers up. Normally any promotions should have launched with the year end/Christmas sale for mounts and pets, right?

Like @Haramburger I'm probably the target audience.. but I don't do M+ or raid, so what's an expansion even offer me? Gay centaurs? Bitch, please, there are probably three dozen gay centaur self-published ebooks on Amazon that are not only better written, but cost less than a month's game time.

(I think Metzen returning might actually be beneficial, and provide some much needed direction even if he's all bluster and no follow through. It's a kitchen sink of sci-fi and fantasy tropes held together by rule of cool, not reject AO3 gay centaur fanfic with nb dragons lecturing you about their shape shifting choices.)

I don't think anyone would mind Melee Hunter if Melee Hunter was fun or completely thought out - but Blizzard probably couldn't think of anything else to solve the problem of all 3 hunter specs feeling very similar but couldn't think of a "new" Melee style and just kind of made new Survival and called it a day.

You also get 30 days game time (but only for the $90 edition, lmao) but between the huge ad campaigns, bringing back Metzen, and early sales/promos - guess Dragonflight isn't selling/sustaining all that well.

I'm the sort of ass who thinks that it's not necessarily bad to have a single class with a lot of overlap between specs or that specs always need to be strongly defined from each other. Building in some workable melee for both BM and Surv could probably have been pretty solid for solo game play.

I thought maybe that was some try DF promo or maybe some kind of bug given it's telling me I can try four year old content. However:

There's a 'NEW' flag over the Create New Character button. Dracthyr is selectable, and once a name is added the Finish button goes live. I haven't clicked it, so I don't know if it'll give me some kind of 'Buy Now to Unlock!' banner/button.

To my knowledge, I don't have the expansion. There's still a buy Dragonflight banner on the character select screen.

I don't think specs have to be drastically different (and not all different roles) but I do think Hunter being Guns (with some extra pet stuff), Guns (with some extra gun stuff) and Guns (with some extra trap stuff) was really not well thought out and feels like something you would point to when you would say "Not every class needs 3 specs".

It hurts a lot when you try and make specs out of hunter's key tools. BM is the pet spec, but the other two specs still have access to most of it - same with traps and old Survival.

I think there's a lot of specs you could cut from the game and just give the tools to other specs and no one would really care as long as it was done correctly (Disc Priest, Sub Rogue, Suvival Hunter, One of the Warlock ones, one of the warrior dps ones with a talent select for DW/2H for flavor, etc) in terms of bringing tools over.

It looks like they haven't updated the Trial/Level 20 Free stuff for Dragonflight (BFA is where the game would send you if you Trialed during Shadowlands).

If you don't have an active sub the screen makes sense, but if you do there's something remarkably wrong.

We are entering the phase one of the "New WoW Expansion cycle", The Honeymoon phase
If we're correct about seeing this cycle, we'll probably get this sometime soon :optimistic:

Not exactly 100% accurate, but I believe I was close :story:

His new video is about current issues that are affecting Dragonflight (Locked content, buggy ores spawns, lag/high ping, feeling weak/damage being low at max level, broken tanks and early game sucking dick)

What, you mean you don't want the story to turn in to everyone tonguing Thrall's asshole because he is the bestest and smartest and greatest person in the whole setting forever and ever?.
Doesn't sound much worse than Danuser tonguing Sylvanas's asshole with his self-insert.

Damn, you nailed it. When you say early game sucking dick do you mean the leveling process for the xpac? Usually even bad expansions have a good leveling experience so if the road to raiding in Dragonflight is bad then I can't imagine the expansion ending well.

There's things Blizzard can do to mitigate this, but in my experience when the focus is so heavily on grouped endgame content, it's the other players who demand you have the cookie cutter builds, not a requirement of the game itself.

It's the problem of the meta, where how you want to play rams up against the expectations of others as to how you should play. WoW at least has a great deal of content you can explore with your idiosyncratic builds, but expect to be doing over 90% of it solo unless you're bringing in RL friends because the game wants you to skip straight to raiding as quickly as possible.

(I like lone wolfing MMO content, but there's a difference between doing it by choice vs. not being able to do group content with a group because no one else is doing it, or won't team up if they look at your build and decide it's subpar.)

At least you are used to thrall's green ass if you played warcraft 3 campaign while you usually kill sylvanas's elven ass if you play it too as arthas... which they did their best to get rid of but will totally not pull him out of some greatest evil ass again.
because the game wants you to skip straight to raiding as quickly as possible.
you can say it's a "recent change" but Pandaria is a old xpac, you can see it in older content if you play either solo servers or via private ones, the changes began during TBC but only started to glare after pandaria because playing solo even on cataclysm feels a bit empty and you can't shake off the feeling of being ganked unless you are with a friend/bot or unlock flying, as always, catering to turboautists is a grave mistake.
