Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

This Year in Review they gave us was weak compared to the years they gave us shit like "what game you played most in X month" and "percent of handheld vs. docked." My categories were pretty much all just Animal Crossing, MonHun GU, and XC 3 from my spouse using my account.
I spent 80 hours in Sophie 2 and it was my GoTY so I kinda expected to see it. =/
Animal Crossing will not be ignored.

The 2.0 update was really good but I still wish they supported the game longer. I made over 100 houses in Happy Home Paradise (interior design is crack to me), played almost every day for most of the year, and I am now done with the game. I guess I got my mileage out of it but 2.0 came too late for most people to want to reinvest into the game.

Just G.O.A.T. things.

My most played were PLA (good game), Assassin's Creed III Remastered (which includes Liberation and thus is actually two games) and Picross S7 (bland filler.) Overall, not a great year for me. Never did pick up Kirby and haven't got S/V yet. Also, I still need to get around to Xeno remaster and 3.

My most played were Shin Megami Tensei V, Mario 3D All-Stars (basically just Mario 64) and Metroid Dread. Pretty severe power gap in play time between SMT and the other two as I started playing much shorter games after finishing it and also haven't really touched my Switch much in the last few months.

Two of mine were Xeno 3 and Xeno Remastered, funnily enough. Along with Undernauts - Labyrinth of Yomi, which is an awesome first person dungeon crawler with a semi-horror aesthetic. Worth your time if you like those sorts of games.

octopath traveler 2 looks nice and all but i really hope they make all the stories actually coalesce this time. that was my only real flaw with the first one.
Didn't they have an after story with a big monster at the end that tied them all up in the post game for the first one?

did they? i never finished it lmao. after doing like 4 stories it just kinda felt like i was spinning my wheels
Yeah, there is a common thread amongst all the stories in that they all had to do with some sort of ritual to summon a monster. I don't recall all the details but there is a unifying storyline but it was not on the forefront of the narrative.

i'll have to go back and finish it then i suppose. cheers
I swear, most people I know who played the game said that they "loved" Octopah Traveller but never managed to finish it. I also tried to play it but I couldn't get over the mundane never-ending bland dialogue. Square Enix should really fire off their writing staff, Triangle Strategy had the same problem too.

Right now, the only game I am expecting from them is the Dragon Quest III remake.

As much as people now complain about Ted Woolsey now, his translations were fun. The dry boring shit we get now is usually lifeless.

All the DLCs for the Switch port of Earth Defense Force 4.1 (EDF 4.1) will be free for six months from their distribution date, including the mission packs.

For mecha enjoyers, Megaton Musashi (by Level-5) is now available free-to-play on the japanese eshop for a whopping 20GB of data.
I remember playing the demo of the original game release and it seemed fun enough. It's only in moonrunes but it has furigana (aka kanji pronunciation) for people wishing to hone their proficiency.

To be fair, modern Square-Enix games have a LOT of character rewrites in english translations, including Triangle Strategy and LIVE A EVIL and I wouldn't be surprised Octopath Traveller is the same on that regard. I did make a thread on that topic here for further info.

Hey I'm here to dox my year in review.

zoomies.png
Most played clocked in at 260 hours for New Horizons this year, Dragon Quest Builders 2 taking up 89 hours and Mario Kart pulling up the rear with 83 hours. Honorable mentions include Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, A-Train: All Aboard! Tourism, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and Grandia HD Collection. I can pretty much recommend all of these games; they're varied and entertaining and if you enjoy what they offer you can definitely sink a ton of time into them.

As far as my game of the year for 2022 on the Nintendo Switch, I'm probably going to go with Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I actually finished that game 100%, which I rarely do. But Kirby games are deceptively easy and you end up getting hooked because "I can do this it's just Kirby" and then you're spending late nights grinding levels to get a stupid gem and trying not to get your shit pushed in on the super secret final boss.

I also want to mention two multiplats that I played this year but which are not Switch exclusives: Dragon Quest Builders 2 is spectacular and I can't recommend it enough. You should play the first DQ Builders game because it is good and also because DQ Builders 2 makes so many improvements that it is hard to go back to the first and really enjoy it. So yeah, the DQ Builders games should be on your list. And also I want to throw some points at Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. That was a really cute and well-built game. But making quality games is what Level-5 do best.

DQB2 is so good. Possibly one of the best ten Switch games period. NNK though, that can suck a fat dick.
