I'll sum up the current situation:
-Warfare has gone back to WW I, with each side hunkering down in trenches, relying on artillery for any significant damage, and advancing only meters at a time with significant losses for each side.
-Each side claims to kill 10,000 enemy soldiers every day.
-Each side (Particularly Ukraine) claims the opposing side will collapse in 2 weeks. (The fact they've been continuously making this claim for 8 months does not seem to deter them from making it).
-Mud is a major issue for both sides, they're both waiting for the ground to freeze to make mechanized advances.
-Russia keeps lobbing missiles and drones at Ukraine's infrastructure (See bullet point 3).
-Russia is building up military forces during the stalemate, with an estimated 200,000-300,000 new recruits being trained.
-Belarus is likely to get involved, Putin and his delegation met with Lukashenko recently in Minsk.
-It's nearly impossible to ascertain what is really happening on the ground, it goes beyond fog of war, the information warfare has grown to a level of retardation that you are disabled if you trust any media source from either side.
-The USA is flip-flopping on sending Patriot Missile defense systems to Ukraine, but it's starting to look like they actually will.
-Ukraine officials claim to shoot down Russian drones and missiles at a rate that is... let's say mathematically interesting. Their complete lack of electricity and basic services seems to indicate otherwise. (See bullet point 5).
-The Russian military continues to fuck up and struggle to get its shit together, though the situation isn't as dire now as it was during the first 6 months of the war.
