Notable quotes from Negz and DC's "interview" of Chantal, lightly edited for legibility:
- (On being with Salah after having been with Nader) "I haven't shed a tear on camera since ... or behind the scenes."
- (On marrying in Kuwait) "What I can say is basically it's actually not that hard. I stayed in a hotel for a little bit and then I had get a form from the embassy that was like a Free to Marry form or something, whatever they required. So I got that document and it only took like 24 hours and everything just happened really fast. That was basically it. It wasn't actually that complicated, just like signing papers and everything like that. But we want to do more. There wasn't any kind of ceremony or anything and we just mostly wanted to rush the actual legal marriage part because it's required here."
- (DC asks if it was a religious ceremony or civil) "It's civil."
- (DC says she didn't know Kuwait had civil wedding ceremonies) "I would have to go through an actual formal process to become a Muslim to then marry as a Muslim and it's a different process. So as a Christian Canadian person it's a secular or just legal marriage." **
- (On how her family feels about Salah) "Now they're super happy. They're super happy because he's so nice on camera."
- (On converting to Islam) "Well, I'm very vague with that because I'm still learning. There's so much to learn. There's just a lot to learn so I just I don't know. I'm kind of want to say in between religions. I'm more on the side of yes, but I'm still learning a lot of things and so I don't want to take the final oath or whatever until I'm fully, fully educated on it. So I think I'm gonna have to just keep learning about it till I make any like final conversion decisions. I have found God at least. I definitely am more spiritual than before for sure."
- (On the niqab) I think it was just like impulsive and jumping the gun. I was under the impression it would be the ultimate modest dress. If we go somewhere crowded -- when you wear niqab you feel completely covered from everybody. When you go to a market, most women are wearing niqabs. So it was a mixture of wanting to fit in culturally. Also, I guess a part of it I wanted to try it out as the ultimate modest dress and like a devotion to God, my husband. But it's not a requirement. It's not very very uncomfortable, but with someone who's obese and has asthma, it can be a little uncomfortable at times. I kind of struggle between my old self and this newer kind of life. So there's still old remnants of myself, like I miss wearing lip gloss sometimes and I want the world to see that. So I'm like very conflicted. And I feel like I should have waited but I'm impulsive, so that was an impulsive decision probably.
Other notes:
Chantal says she called the Montreal police on Nader because of the revenge porn thumbnails, is planning on going to Montreal PD to make a report when back home. Is contemplating doing a "two-fer" and reporting FFG at the same time.
Negz ponders that wearing a niqab is similar to using a weighted blanket. Chantal agrees.
Salah was born and raised in Kuwait, and has always had "very decent jobs." "As long as he's registered with a company ..." she then catches herself and says maybe Salah will answer questions about his legal status in a ~couples Q&A~
The rest of it was a VERY thinly veiled attempt to convince Chantal to try to deplatform FFG. Not worth watching at all. The only real takeaway is that she's now stating outright that the marriage was a civil ceremony. Supposedly there are no civil ceremonies in Kuwait, so this proves she's full of shit.
