This is the kinda shit about Tony that makes me MATI and legit feel bad for his poor son. A power outage during a deep freeze can actually be an awesome learning experience for someone in Tonys son’s position. The fact this kid has to call Tony 'Mom' and be therefore complicit with his AGP fantasy world is by far the most unnerving thing. This is above all else why they KiwiFarms down, it calls a carefully guarded illusion into question.
Sadly in the state of Maryland the only way to get an emergency custody action is to basically have a child experience grievous harm. Couple that with Montgomery County’s very pro trans atmosphere (I think Syo linked a handbook for the county in this thread somewhere) the courts will most likely make any custody action move through normal court scheduling versus any emergency custody action filed by mom. That doesn’t guarantee that once the case is heard she would win.
There has to be an extenuating change in circumstances to bring up a case for custody or support modification. So unfortunately as long as his son is fed, clothed and housed it is very unlikely this court would intervene. The courts loathe to disrupt the status quo even if it’s fucked. Now mom could try to move jurisdiction to Virginia or wherever she is currently and have a modification case heard in that jurisdiction but there’s a lot more to that than just a file transfer. Mom does have an uphill battle because she did refuse to return the son when a custody agreement was in place. Had that happened before an agreement was entered she would have had more of a case and we would be stuck with Tony crying on mothers day about being alone.
Just wanted to give a little insight on how family law works in the state of Maryland. Consistency in the courts in Maryland doesn’t really exist. I am pretty sure if this case was heard in say Cecil County there would have been a very different outcome. (For those who don’t know-check out Rising Sun, Maryland).

Brilliant. There is zero medical reason for trans surgeries because the "condition" never existed until the "cure" was discovered (surgeons willing to reshape flesh into nonfunctioning organ facsimiles). Might as well refuse to cede the "medically necessary" ground to that.
Tony calls GET "conversion therapy". Psychotherapy has certainly come up in discussions on conversion therapy, in particular regarding a UK Bill that aimed to ban conversion therapy. That Bill ended up being shelved in part because there was no consensus on what conversion therapy meant when it came to trans-identifying people (and partly because actual gay conversion therapy is vanishingly rare in Britain).
As Tony is arguing that GET should be branded with a term no-one can agree a definition for, there's no point arguing the details here. Instead, what does this argument say about Tony's position?
Tony quotes at length a paper by PhD student Florence Ashley (who Tony misgenders throughout; Florence goes by they/them, bigot). Tony's post and Ashley's article have the same argument, the root of which is (as Ashley puts it) that “being trans is not undesirable and should not be approached as if it were.”
Which brings us back to the biggest question about transgenderism: are people "innately" transgender or is it a belief that people come to hold?
Tony clearly believes it is innate, that he was "born in the wrong body". If we suppose this is true, then it's quite natural to argue that anything other than affirmation is unethical, and that therapy that attempts to ask questions about why someone "is trans" is at best a waste of time. You might even argue that this innate trans-ness is the cause of mental health and development problems (archive.vn), rather than the other way around.
But let's take up the other argument. Then it would be natural to say that people who have this belief should talk it through with a therapist. After all, it must be very distressing to believe that you are in the "wrong body" and that the fix is to take harmful drugs and have healthy body parts amputated.
Why might someone feel that way? Might it be some kind trauma, an underlying mental health problem, autism, a paraphilia, social pressure, or a reaction to society's sex stereotypes? If someone is feeling distressed and consumed by what is, on the face of it, an irrational belief, perhaps talking things through with a therapist can help the person come to terms with the underlying issue that is causing this extreme rejection of their sexed body.
Then the question is, if we can see that some people's trans identification stems from an underlying psychological factor, what about the people who insist they were "born this way" (that is, "born in the wrong body")? People who feel that they cannot, or do not want to, take that deep and probably painful look at their own mind and history.
A person, perhaps, who grew up in a very religious family, in a socially conservative place. A person who had unfettered and unsupervised access to the internet from a very young age. A person bullied at school for not conforming to sex stereotypes. A person with a history of mental health problems, substance abuse and criminal convictions. A string of relationships that did not last more than a couple of years. A shame-inducing sexual fetish. An academic and work career that always seems to fall short of their goals. A person, say, like Tony?
Of course, he fails to clarify what these "anti-LGBTQ+ incidents" actually consist of. According to
the report itself, the definition is "IRL or digital harassment or harm." In other words, people being mean on the internet counts as an "anti-LGBTQ+ incident" in this graph.
Erin knowingly conflates this with "violence" because he is an angry narcissist who is willing to lie if he thinks it might cause women who disagree with him to be punished.

Iirc, Leelah's parents were fundies who pulled him out of school so they could isolate him for months, and send him to various Christian conversion therapists all while doping him up with ever-increasing amounts of either Prozac, or Xanax.
