This has probably already been brought up but did the Air Nation genocide even really happen?
How could you possibly genocide a global race of nomadic peoples?
Okay so the people in the air temples are largely pacifists but that doesn't mean that they would just sit down and die.
Apparently that's what they did. Eliminating an entire race only happens when the last pureblood dies out over a century latter.

But don't let real life get in the way of this overrated cartoon.
Not good enough for me. They can literally just fly away. Fire Nation didn't even have blimps till 100 years later.
If they were talking about a cultural genocide wherein their way of life has died out then I could understand it but the lack of airbenders elsewhere ATLA goes to show that they went with the ethnocide angle
A lot of the expanded material explains this stuff: Sozin attacked the air temples first during the comet. While the air benders did put up a fight, they were simply no match for the power and the numbers of the Fire Nation soldiers. A lot of them were wiped out in the temple attacks. Some did survive, but the Fire Nation began hunting them down and setting up traps to lure them into. Which ended up killing off a lot of the surviving air benders.

As far as how the Fire Nation reached the temples without airships: it was a misconception that the temples could only be reached by flight. While difficult to do, all the temples had pathways that could be reached by foot. During that one episode with the Northern Air Temples, we see the Fire Nation troops doing just that.

There possibly were air benders that survived the genocide, but they all likely decided to go into hiding and blend into places like the Earth Kingdom or Fire Nation. The reason where there were no more air benders by the time Aang came out of the ice berg is because they lost access to their bending. The Kyoshi novels went over that air benders could sometimes lose their air bending when they abandoned their spiritual teachings.

It is likely that there were people that were descended from air benders that survived the genocide but weren't benders themselves because of this. Many fans have theorized that Ty Lee was the descendant of an air bender given that her facial features almost perfectly matches Aang's and all the other Fire Nation characters have completely different features that she doesn't have.

Seems they're finally pulling their finger out and doing an Earthbender Avatar series (plus a movie). Don't expect it for a while though.

Oh god. This is going to be such a disaster. It is going to be super pozzed and do a million dumb things that will make no sense. The fact that they are likely going to set it in a world modeled after modern times can only be a nightmare. The only good that could come out of it is shitting on Korra.

Speaking of which, the Korra fans are not handling the news well.

The korra Fandom always finds the worst ways to hate avatar for the worst reasons. Its truly impressive in a fucked up kind of way.

But there’s more. An animated movie featuring this Avatar and their era is coming to theaters in the years after the show comes out. (I can’t reveal more specific dates yet, but it won’t be an insanely long wait.)
What do you mean article by saying "this Avatar and their era"? What's up with this gender neutral language? That's clearly a single man.

The funny thing is that the Korra show itself treated the ATLA cast like absolute shit so it would only be right for her gang to suffer a similar fate.

I have my hopes.
Who knows if Korra's gang are literally all dead and the bitch's spirit is the humor factor in the upcoming 3rd part, like i said before in the thread.

Let the new series be set a few centuries later and the Spirits tried to genocide humanity again (because the spirits who initially did it are still alive) and force them back on the Lion-Turtles again like the Wan era, so the Spirit portals are closed and Korra is rightfully seen as a retard by future generations.

I doubt they're gonna skip a bunch of Avatars, sadly. The most we'll get (if they're only doing one cycle) is a Firebender like one hundred years from present day. They could do some interesting things with technology replacing bending.

Is the new Avatar going to be take place in the avatar's version of the 2000s or present day or will it be set in their equivalent of the late 20th century?

If you told little me a decade ago that avatar would get not just one, but two sequel series I'd be ecstatic. Even now when I read the news my gutter reaction was "oh neat!" before I remember "oh right".

This could have been salvagable if korra hadn't turbofucked the timeline by speedrunning 1000 years of technological development and destroying the concept of the spirit world, the avatar state, the spirits in general, and bending as a whole.

Really don't see how they can pull this off without massive retcons and an unimaginably talented writing team.

You just can't trust anything new anymore. Especially if it's part of a long running franchise.

They won't be able to. They only way to have a proper sequel is to pretend that Korra never happened in the first place, and they will never do that. The creators and fans can't confess that the series was a colossal fuck up, and that the only reason anyone pretends to like it is because of the final ten seconds of the show.

The saddest thing to me about all this is how the fans at the time would have done such a better job. I've read a lot of ATLA fanfiction, a lot of which was written around Korra's first season release. A lot of them did better jobs than the creators did.

They treated the original characters with respect, gave the gang's kids character development that didn't make them all out to be miserable train wrecks and treated the technological angle better than just going full sci-fi steampunk. It is sad that genuine fans of the original series can do what the creators couldn't.

I hope Korra reproduced with a man anyways to keep the fags flaming.
That is gonna be really funny considering aang's kids played a huge role in Korra (And Tenzin was arguably the best character in the show), because I can't imagine a way where it ends well for both the fans and the show.

Option 1.) Korra is childless. People who want to see more of her (by proxy) are mad because presumably she just died being a cat lady with asami and left no legacy other than destroying the world. Show is all better for it because they can pretend korra never existed.

Option 2.) Korra's bio clock ticked too hard and she had sex with a man to produce kids. Dykes mad because it reminds them they'll end up as cat ladies. Show is worse because we now have to deal with the spawn of satan, unless said spawn renounces korra which they won't because that would piss off korra fans.

Option 3.) Worst of both worlds, Korra remains a dyke but adopts, basically breaking all suspension of disbelief and turning the asiatic middle age world into san francisco. (It also limits her to 1 kid because adopting multiple as a lesbian in imperial china is gonna look stupid even by twitter standards.)

I'm willing to put money on number 3. Aargon's other show already has black lesbian queens adopting so it wouldn't be that far fetched.
